Of Sea and Song Page 26

“Well, maybe this could work,” I said, patting my new body and feeling the muscles underneath. I was hoping for the body of one of the kingdom’s seven princes, but this would do until I regained my strength and magic. I turned, and the lavender-haired girl and Aspen both bowed.

“What was his name again?” I asked. Already feeling possessive over my new body.

“Vasili,” Aspen said. “Of the Undersea.”

“That explains the magic I feel in his bloodline. It’s old and untapped, but it’s there. This will do very nicely.” I wandered to the map on the wooden table and looked at the seven kingdoms. Lorelai Eville and her daughters foiled many of my plans. I needed to get a stronghold.

“Where to next?” Aspen asked. He placed a silver dagger with a blackened gem in the hilt on the table next to the map. The red heart stone turned black after it transferred his soul into this body.

The transfer worked, because it was done as a sacrifice of love. I could sense Vasili’s feelings still stirring up in my soul. It sickened me. They would fade fast.

I picked up the soulless dagger and stabbed it into the map, in the heart of the kingdom I so desperately wanted destroyed.

“Set course for the kingdom of Rya.”
