Fifth Year Friendships at Trebizon Page 9

by Anne Digby

Rebecca was overcome with emotion. How superficial her problems had been this term, compared with Naomi Cook's. How pleased she was to be staying at Trebizon! How lucky that Dad's firm paid her fees! The courage of the diminutive First Year girl in the situation in which she'd found herself was really quite humbling. She would keep in touch. She and Cliff, they'd try to be like a big brother and sister to the Cook twins

So many Fifth Year friendships to be grateful for! thought Rebecca. Pargie and Maggy and Miss Heath. She'd try not to disappoint them. And Robbie and Cliff. And Tish and Sue and Margot and Elf – and Mara! And Emmanuelle! It was only a few weeks now before she'd be going to Paris.

  And Naomi Cook.

'Yes, I expect great things of her,' murmured Miss Welbeck, standing next to Rebecca, shoulder to shoulder.

She turned and their eyes met for a moment.

  'And of you, too, Rebecca.'

The principal smiled then and consulted her watch. She raised an eyebrow.

'Off you go then, Rebecca. Haven't you got exams tomorrow?'
