Bloody Mad: A Dark Urban Fantasy Story (The Legacy of a Vampire Witch Book 2) Page 15

by Theophilus Monroe

I made another appointment with Cain, this time on an outpatient basis. He might be the murderous older brother of Old Testament lore, but he was also a pretty damn good shrink. And it felt like I was just starting to make some progress with Edwin. He was talking more now. And it wasn’t always about his craving for disembowelment. He wanted to taste ice cream, so we did. We didn’t have freezers in the 1890s, so ice cream was something of a novelty to him. Not that I ate it often. As a vampire I don’t have to eat. But the vampire’s body still has all the human parts. And, aside from the heart and liver, I had all the normal organs in all the right places. That meant I could eat if I wanted. I could enjoy an ice cream with my brother, so I did. Chocolate chip cookie dough. Cookies and cream. Moose tracks. Even plain-Jane chocolate and vanilla. We tried all the flavors. If Edwin wasn’t already a monster, I was making him a monster of another sort.

Allowing Edwin to experience some “human” things—things even I didn’t bother to enjoy—was Cain’s idea. He had infernal magic, which meant I did, too. And we’d learn to wield it together. But he had to find himself first. He needed to find whatever was left of his humanity. Finding his humanity, since my soul was long gone, was the closest I’d experienced to being human ever since Nico bit me that fateful night in the sanatorium in Rhode Island.

Reviews are the most powerful tool in my arsenal when it comes to getting attention for my books. Much as I’d love to, I don’t have the financial muscle of one of New York’s big five publishers. I can’t take out full-page ads in the newspaper, or put up posters at the major bookstores. (Not yet, anyway!)

But I do have something much more powerful and effective than that, and it’s something that those publishers would kill to get their hands on.

A dedicated and committed bunch of readers!

Honest reviews of my books help bring them to the attention of other readers.

If you’ve enjoyed this book, I would be eternally grateful if you could spend just a few minutes leaving a review (it can be as short as you like) on the book’s Amazon page. You can jump right to the page by using the link below.

  Coming Soon!

What does an ex-shifter turned drag queen do in her spare time? Hunt vampires, of course.

Nyx used to hunt humans. She belonged to an elemental species, known as the “Neck,” renowned for assuming whatever form appealed to their human prey the most—then seducing them with sensual song before feasting on them beneath the waters. But when Nyx mistakenly attempts to lure a vampire and gets bitten she loses her ability to shape shift and is trapped in a male form. Forced to live among the humans, and taking a job as a drag queen stage performer, when one of her friends is attacked by a vampire Nyx vows to hunt down the assailant—and follows a path that could lead her to the very vampire who stole her abilities. Will Nyx get her revenge on the vampire and recover her powers? Or, will the ex-shifter be stuck as a human—and a male one, at that—forever?

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Theophilus Monroe is a fantasy author with a knack for real-life characters whose supernatural experiences speak to the pangs of ordinary life. After earning his Ph.D. in Theology, he decided that academic treatises that no one will read (beyond other academics) was a dull way to spend his life. So, he began using his background in religious studies to create new worlds and forms of magic–informed by religious myths, ancient and modern–that would intrigue readers, inspire imaginations, and speak to real-world problems in fantastical ways.

When Theophilus isn’t exploring one of his fantasy lands, he is probably playing with one of his three sons, or pumping iron in his home gym, which is currently located in a 40-foot shipping container.

He makes his online home at www.theophilusmonroe.com. He loves answering reader questions—feel free to e-mail him at [email protected] if the mood strikes you!
