I look up at his face, all hard angles and deep shadows, lit only by those glittering golden eyes. Somehow, I don’t think there’d be much sleeping involved.

Author’s Note
I love classic cars. The shape of them, the sound they make. One day I’ll hire one, maybe for a day, maybe a little longer, and just bomb around for a while, listening to the engine roar and enjoying the feel of all those horses galloping under my foot. When I first mentioned to a friend of mine that I wanted to write a story with a female mechanic, she dropped the bomb that she used to be a female mechanic, on classic cars, no less, and would be happy to beta read.
We hammered the bones of the story out in about an hour over Messenger, and sure enough, she then beta read the first draft for me. There was only one thing she couldn’t factcheck (the weight of an Impala’s hood) and for that I had to phone up a really nice guy in Arizona. Turns out, even he wasn’t sure, but he gave me a range (75lbs – 100lbs) and I chose a number somewhere in the middle and ran with it.
So, thank you, Kate. I’m forever grateful to you for the help, and the encouragement, and to Impala Bob (yes, really) for not immediately hanging up on me when I yelled at my dog not to bite the plumber just as poor Bob picked up the phone. I’m LOUD, you guys.
Kate said she loved the twist on the woman breaking down at the side of the road, that she’s perfectly capable of fixing her own car, if only she had the part, but lets the guy do it because he clearly wants to so badly. I liked that, too. It appeals to my twisted sense of humor. I hope you also enjoyed it, and the rest of the book, too
