Sira floated about the room and waited. The girl she watched stirred annoyance in her spirit, and she felt…threatened. But there was no way this girl could threaten her. By comparison, Sira was easily Alara’s superior. It would be like equating a wolf to a dog, and this girl looked every bit an incompetent mongrel to Sira.
Alara leaned over the sleeping Darius and ran a wet cloth over his forehead. Then she set the cloth down. Sira tensed when the girl gently kissed him on his cheek, and she wanted to leave her hidden state and rip the girl’s heart out. It would have been easily done, but instead she endured watching this mutt tend to his needs.
It was necessary. There was that perfect time to persuade his thoughts, but she had to be careful. With the draft given by the doctor, her invasion could cause harm, and that was not to be allowed. If she waited too long, however, his mind would be strong enough to keep her out as he had done in the training fields.
No…but soon. For three more days, she waited until it was time. That night, after Alara fell asleep in the chair next to the bed, Sira floated down and into Darius’s mind.
