Rebel Rook: An Everyday Heroes World Novel (The Everyday Heroes World) Page 37

by Ren Alexander

Talia huffs a laugh, but when I dip my tongue into her, the laughing ceases. “Dylan, fuck.”

Another swift and loud knock assaults our door. “Mom? Dad? Whichever, I’m home. I texted Lynz. Chase said he’ll pick her up.”

“I did not! I’ll be in class!”

“Your cars are here. Are you in there?”

Talia stutters, “Yeah, Cruise. Okay. I’ll be out soon.” Talia’s hands go into my hair as I shove my tongue deeper. Hearing Cruise talking to Chase, away from the door, I focus on Talia’s clit, a sure-fire way to make her come hard when she’s this wet and turned on. Above my head, Talia says, “You’re such a helpful police officer.”

Glancing up to her face, I say, “I want you to feel my tongue licking your pussy all day until I fuck it with my dick later.”

  “Oh, God.”

Returning to my task, I moan against her pussy. Holding onto my hair, she lifts her hips to allow my tongue to go deeper still.

“Dad, will you be out soon?”

  “Mom, where’s Dad?”

“Did any of you see my twenty bucks?”

“Why are you both here?” Cruise suddenly laughs, and I hear a smack and Chase yelp. “Oh, shit. You know what day it is, don’t you?”

  “Thursday?”

  “Jesus, Chase.”

“The seventh? What are you getting at?”

“It’s their anniversary, dumbass. You’re a big boy and experimenting with a celebrity’s daughter. You’ve probably only gotten up to bat. I bet you’ve never made it to second base, let alone ever cross home plate. Still, you can probably guess what our parents are doing.”

  “Shut up, Cruise.”

More amused laughing. “Son of a bitch. Dad’s getting laid.”

Talia pants, getting closer, and I don’t want to stop, but I want to yell at those two assholes. However, Talia yells, “So is your mother! Get the fuck away from the door before we re-enact your conceptions!” We hear laughing and more talking. I grin, but I’m relentless on her clit. I slip two fingers into her, and Talia whispers, “Dylan, baby. You’re so damn hot. You’re no rookie at this.” Her moans grow louder, and I know she’s not faking it.

Stumbling and yelling ensue, and then doors slam. Talia holds my head, and with urgency, she whispers, “I’m coming. Do you want it?” I nod against Talia as her orgasm bursts into my mouth. My tongue and fingers fuck her, burying my wedding ring against her pussy. Amid her moaning, she begs, “Eat all of it if you want me to stop speeding.” I lick away her cum until her whimpers soften, the quivering stops, and I don’t taste any more of it.

Breathing hard, her legs slacken, and I gently kiss into the wet hair between them before I sit up. She whispers, “Holy fuck.”

“Happy anniversary, my love. Those earrings look fucking good on you,” I whisper and then glance at the door. From across the hall, music plays, probably to drown us out.

“Happy anniversary, my true love,” Talia replies with a smile. “Thank you for loving me.”

I grin, and getting up, I grab my jeans and underwear. After putting them on, I go to the bathroom while Talia gets dressed. When I’m out, and she goes in there, I see a missed call and notification from Cruise’s high school about his absence. “Jesus,” I mutter. He may need an intervention now. Dalton, Grant, and Ricky saved my ass. Maybe they can help me with my wayward son, too. My problem back then was boredom and lack of ambition. Cruise is ambitious, but he won’t say what he wants to do after high school. I think he wants to go into law enforcement but doesn’t want me to know, so I won’t lecture or pressure him.

I also see a text from Jordan demanding we do lunch and a round of golf, but we have to eat at a new place since our usual haunt closed last week. After twenty years of us eating there once a week, it’s like losing an old friend.

Sighing, I remove my gold wedding band since I don’t wear it to work. Some officers do, but not me. I often wear gloves, but my most prized material possession poses not only a safety but a personal hazard. For one, I don’t want to lose it. It’d bother me more than Talia if I did. Also, I’ve made a mistake before wearing it.

“For the third time. I need your identification.”

“Is this how you pick up women, Officer Hot Stuff?”

  “If they’re breaking the law.”

“I see you’re married. I bet she’s a cute little thing. Does your wife know you troll the streets, searching for unsuspecting women?”

“I ask the questions. And right now, if you don’t give me your ID, I’ll take you to jail first and ask questions later.”

Some weren’t as innocuous. Others I’ve detained insulted my wife, who they’ve never seen. Others threatened to find out where I live and hurt her, correctly assuming she’s my weak spot. The first time that happened, they assigned me to Sonya, my first partner, post-training. She’s now one of Talia’s best friends. A coked-out prick threatened to find my address and rape my wife, so I took him to the ground and warned him to shut his mouth, or I’d permanently do it for him. I was close to breaking his jaw, the law, and threatening his life when Sonya pulled me off the son of a bitch. I’d take a bullet for Talia, even if it’s metaphorical.

Letting that piece of shit get to me was a rookie mistake, yeah. But it’s also one I’m on the edge of making still, ring or not. Some detainees still make comments to see if I’ll confirm I’m married, testing the waters to use as ammo. I’ve found their shit’s not as personal to me if I’m not wearing my ring. There are times when I still can’t keep my emotions in check and must yield the arrest investigation to another officer.

Opening the bedroom door, I go to Chase’s door and pound on it. He groans. “Is it the police?

“Yep. Turn down the music and open the door.”

“Do you have a search warrant?”

  “Do you have rent?”

His loud sigh makes me smile. “Come in.”

Entering his room, I see his chaotic mess of papers, books, and clothes. “I’m also the landlord. You need to clean up some of this shit.” Aside from his penchant for the sloppy, Chase is a good kid. Wait. I was his age when I was in the academy, and people called me a kid. Jesus. Either I was a kid, or he’s an adult. I can’t have it both ways. This day has been no less than mind-blowing.

“I know.” My eldest son frowns as he adjusts his glasses. Besides our book smarts, he has my eyebrows, nose, and height, while he has Talia’s eyes, cheekbones, and determination. Yeah, a nerd in disguise married a hot brainiac. His skin tone is a blend of both of us, as are other three: Black, Hispanic, Scottish, English, and Irish. Chase mumbles, “Uh, sorry about earlier. I didn’t know you and Mom were…I forgot what day it was.”

I laugh. “Okay, but it’s not like it’s the only day of the year we…celebrate. But our kids rarely receive invitations. Though four times we made each of you the guest of honor.” I arch an eyebrow, and he mirrors me with an identical one.

“God, Dad. Just stop right there. I already heard way more than I ever should.”

I sigh. “You said you wanted to talk. You didn’t last night. What’s the emergency?”

  “We can talk later.”

“Can’t. It’s still our anniversary, so I’ll be busy later.”

“Nope!” he shouts, trying to busy himself with nothing.

“How in the hell do you think you kids got here?”

Chase finds his phone and blasts music from the speakers on his dresser. However, when he sees the look I give him, he turns it off. He pouts, “I’m traumatized now.”

“You’re twenty-one years old. Like you haven’t had sex.” Before he averts his gaze, shame fills his eyes. Talia may be right. Clearing my throat, I lean against the door and cross my arms. I didn’t expect to have this conversation with my adult son this morning. On the other side of the door, I hear Talia arguing with Cruise. He’s next. “Chase, what are you hiding?”

Chase winces. “I’m not gay, Dad.”

  “Oka
y. What’s the problem with Finley? You’ve been dating her for a while. Have you two slept together?” Chase picks up his phone, and I roll my eyes. “Put it down. You interrupted me earlier. Out with it.”

Setting down his phone, he scratches his shoulder and feigns indifference. “No.”

“Is that the problem? You want to, and she doesn’t?”

Resigned, he shakes his head. “The opposite.”

Playing dumb myself, I ask, “Is there a reason she’s different from your experiences?”

Chase sighs, and it’s desolate. “I don’t have any.”

  “Oh. Wow. So, you’re—”

“Yeah, Dad. I’m a virgin. Finley doesn’t know.”

I watch Chase shift on his feet, trying to avoid looking at me. I smile. “Chase, don’t let it embarrass you. It’s fine. There’s no age limit.”

“How old were you, then? Fifteen?”

  “Nineteen.”

Surprised by that, he glances at me. “So, not Mom?”

  “No. My ex-girlfriend.”

“But you slept with a lot of women before Mom.”

“No. I’ve only been with two.”

  “That’s it?”

I shrug. “So? What’s wrong with that? My ex dumped me, and I moved back to California, where I met this gorgeous woman who knocked me on my ass. I fell for her and knew your mom was it for me. Why doesn’t Finley know about your—”

  “Predicament? Detriment? Impairment?”

“That’s way dramatic. It’s easily remedied. Don’t you want to have sex with her?”

He cringes. “This is horrifying.” Chase paces like Talia. “Yeah. Very much, but she has issues with being older than me.”

I laugh as I shake my head. “She’s not that much older. Your mom had the same worries, along with me being a police officer. But none of it stopped us. And why does the man have to be older? Who in the hell made up that rule, anyway? Your grandmother is older than Grandpa, too.”

“It bothers Finley because she worries about what everyone thinks. She keeps me at a distance. She hates it, though, because her dad hid his relationship with her mom. When they eloped, it blew her family apart.”

“I was at their wedding. Damn. Has it been that long? Do you think Finley has issues with you being mixed race?”

  “I don’t know. She hasn’t said anything.”

“You need to find out because you shouldn’t ever put up with that bullshit. You can be with anyone you want. If she thinks you’re not good enough for her because of your ancestry or skin color, she doesn’t deserve you. Never forget that, Chase. Because if I had an issue with it, you wouldn’t be here. Same goes for your mom. She tried to reject me because she was afraid of what she’d do to my life. How damn selfless is that? Unfortunately, some people judge a book without ever opening the cover. That’s a damn shame because they could miss out on the best story of their lives.”

  “Okay, Dad. Chill.”

I scoop a hand into my hair. “Well, I hate that shit. When I married your mom, I vowed to always protect her. Our kids fall under that vow, and I’ll never break it.”

Chase nods. “Okay. I get what you’re saying. But we’ve been off and on for eight months, and I make excuses not to stay the night. I don’t know if I can fight it anymore. She makes it…hard.”

I laugh, but when he doesn’t, I feel shitty. He’s not Cruise, and I know this is seriously fucking him up. “Do you love her?”

“We’re never together long enough for me to be sure this is what it is. Maybe I’m different than a typical guy my age. I don’t want to be a frat boy who sleeps around. But women my age want the bad boys, you know? Someone like Cruise.”

“There’s nothing wrong with who you are, Chase. Just because you’re a man, it doesn’t mean you have to run out and fuck every woman who looks your way. I don’t know who came up with any of these idiotic rules. You’ve got a good head on your shoulders, and I admire you for not doing it to just say you did. If you tell her, and she doesn’t respect your decision, then she isn’t the one for you.”

  “I won’t. That’s why I’ve held on to the damn V-card, but I think I’m making a horrible mistake.”

I shake my head. “You’re not.” As I say that, I grin.

He gives me a suspicious side-eye. “What?”

“I don’t know who taught you to be such a decent guy. God knows I’m not always. Damn, I’m proud of you, Chase McGrath.”

“Whatever.” He averts his attention to something else, but I notice him hiding a smile.

“Just talk to her. Your mom and I broke up because we kept things from each other. Don’t make that mistake if Finley is the one.”

“I don’t know if she is. You and Mom broke up?”

I check my watch, knowing I still have to face off with Cruise. “Yeah. That’s a story for another time. It worked out, as you heard earlier.”

“Enough, Dad. You’re boasting about having sexual relations with my mother.”

I laugh and push off the doorframe. “What if she boasts about banging your father? Would you defend me then?”

“I hate you.” Chase’s sour expression follows by him turning on his music again. I laugh, and above the noise, he shouts, “Good day, sergeant!”

As I shut his door, Talia nearly runs into me as she leaves our bedroom again. Before we collide, I catch her arm, and she falls against me. Her stunning eyes look up at mine, and she smiles. “Well, hello there, stranger. Damn, you’re hot. I really hope you’re not married.”

“Why is that?” I bite my lip and arch an eyebrow.

“Because I need you in my bed and between my legs tonight.”

I smirk. “I am married, and she’s the sexiest woman who hardens my dick from across the room, and her pussy fucks me so good my soul weeps.” Talia’s eyes brighten. “So, you and I will have to be super quiet. She’s a light sleeper.”

“Oh, no, you didn’t, Dylan McGrath!” Talia smacks my chest and arm as we laugh.

“Battery of a police officer is a Class 6 felony with prison time, woman!”

“Battery? Please. That’s small potatoes. You screw another cunt, and I’m scoring first-degree murder, baby.”

Still laughing, I grab her face, and over her giggling lips, I say, “I only want yours. You’re my forever. Everything I said was true, though. Happy anniversary. I’ll be home late, but I can’t wait to be between your legs again tonight.”

“And Friday night. I booked a room so we can be alone after dinner. I want to hear you moan my name. Making love in a crowded house is for the birds.”

“Don’t worry, when I get home, I’ll moan it in your ear all night long.”

She squeals against my lips before kissing me. Cruise sticks his head out of his room. “Not this again. I think you already set off the smoke detectors. Knock it off,” he complains and then ducks back into his room.

Talia turns back to me. “I’m leaving. Are you?”

“Not yet. I have time to kick some ass.”

“Just like when you kicked Tristan’s ass over me?”

“Don’t get me started. I’ll fly out there and refresh his memory.”

“But I love starting you up, so you go all alpha male on me, as you can tell. So, refresh my memory tonight.”

  “More speeding tickets?”

“At least a misdemeanor. And I’ll resist arrest.”

“Uh, oh. That won’t be good, Mrs. McGrath. You’ll force me to restrain you.”

  “And spank me.”

I laugh at her eager look. “We’ll save that for Friday in case the arrest disturbs the peace.”

Hearing gagging noises from Cruise’s room, Talia sighs. “Good luck with him. He’s in a particular crab-ass mood. I called the school. He didn’t even show up.”

“He dropped off Lynz and left?”

“Apparently. He was supposed to drop her off at the studio on the way home so she can help with the Twinkle Toes class.”

  “Oh,
the little girls?”

Talia nods. “He basically said fuck her.”

  “I don’t think so.”

“Don’t be too hard on him, Dylan. You go easier with Chaser, and Cruiser resents it.”

“He was also our most challenging conception, no surprise there. I don’t play good cop/bad cop, Talia. I just call it like it is, and he’s…cruising for trouble. I’m trying to straighten him out.”

“According to your mom, he’s you all over again.”

  I grumble, “I wasn’t that bad.”

Talia kisses my lips as I glare at Cruise’s door. “Probation? Twice? And the countless times Ricky came to your rescue when you should’ve been in jail?” I roll my eyes, hating she’s hitting a nerve. “Let him do the talking. He might have something to say to you.”

  “Besides fuck off?”

Talia frowns, and I kiss her pout. “Believe it or not, our youngest son worships you.”

“Sure. I believe the thing you said about Taggart more.”

“Fine. I need to go. Marilou is there, but if she’s alone too long, she gets all crazy.”

“You wouldn’t know what to do if she didn’t move here to run the studio with you.”

“I know. We fight like sisters, and she’s helped us raise our kids. Auntie Marilou is family and always will be.”

I lean down and kiss her. “She is. Have a good day at work.”

“You too. Good luck with your field training. You’ll be a great teacher.”

“It’ll be better than riding a desk this past month.”

  “What’s your recruit’s name?”

  “I think it’s Ruby.”

“Be nice to her, baby. Treat her like one of your own daughters.”

“Then she’ll walk all over me.”

“When you’re not all alpha, you’re pussy-whipped for sure.”

My frown is swift, and I roll my eyes. “Thanks, baby.”

When she turns away from me with a giggle, I stretch to smack her ass. Talia yelps with a surprised and turned-on look, and I grin.

I go to Cruise’s door, and since it’s cracked open, I push on it. Inside his room, the music blares, and I see Cruise at his laptop. His room is always orderly, which is a juxtaposition I can’t reconcile. He doesn’t avert his attention away as I cross my arms, staring at him. Still studying his screen, he finally asks, “Can I help you?” He stole that from me.
