“Us too. Bye, Maggie.”
Hanging up, Skye sat back in her chair and stared up at the ceiling with a laugh. So much had changed in the last few weeks. After spending some time getting Maggie reacclimated to being home—and in the twenty-first century—Lucas received a call from his captain, begging him to come home. Although thrilled to see Lucas and James, Captain Daniels had been less than happy to return Lucy. He’d only let Lucas and Skye in when Lucas promised he’d bring the pup over for weekly visits.
The sound of James’ booming laugh piqued her curiosity. Standing, Skye padded across the room, stumbling slightly when a familiar tingling started at the back of her neck.
She hadn’t had any visions since the one in the Wasteland, and a sense of dread pooled in her stomach. Would it be death that waited for her? Skye barely made it back to her chair by the time the vision had her firmly in its grasp.
“Skye, baby, we’ve got to go. We’re going to be late.” Lucas poked his head around the door, whistling softly as he stared at her. “Wow.”
“I look like a blimp.” Skye sulked, staring at her reflection in the full-length mirror. Her dark hair was piled high on her head, soft curls falling down around her neck and shoulders.
“You look stunning.”
Turning away from the mirror, her hands curled protectively around the swell of her stomach, Skye pouted. “Maids of honor should not look like they have a Thanksgiving turkey tucked beneath their dress.”
Lucas laughed, stepping fully into the room. “No one is going to think you have a turkey in your dress,” he promised, hand outstretched to rub her belly.
Skye rolled her eyes. “Pregnant women are supposed to glow, Lucas. I look like I could frighten small children.” Skye turned back to the mirror, pinching her cheeks to add some color. “No amount of makeup in the world is going to make it look like I’ve gotten more than two hours of sleep a night the last month and a half.”
Applying a dark red lipstick, Skye inspected herself in the mirror and scowled. “I don’t even know why I’m bothering. Two seconds in, I’m going to start bawling like a baby. Pregnancy hormones are the worst.”
Hiding his laugh behind his hand, Lucas moved to stand behind her and then placed both his hands on her shoulders. Kneading the knotted muscles, he said, “Nonsense, Giovanni. You are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. And as soon as we get home from the wedding, I’m going to draw you a warm bath and then rub your feet for an hour.”
Skye moaned in pleasure, her eyes fluttering closed at the thought. “I love you.”
“I love you, too, baby. Now, let’s go.” He picked up her beaded bag from the bed and swatted her on the butt. “The best man can’t be late to his sister’s wedding.”
“Especially since you’re the one walking her down the aisle.”
“Lizzie would never forgive me.”
“And then James would have to defend her honor…it’d be a whole thing,” Skye teased.
Lucas snorted. “Yeah right, ever since she got her power, Lizzie looks for excuses to light my ass up. There’s no way she’d let Matthews fight her battle.”
Skye wove her arm through his. “You’re right. All the more reason to go. Can’t have my sister-in-law murder my husband a month before her niece arrives.”
“Niece? Yesterday, you were convinced it was a little boy.”
Skye shrugged, pausing to let Lucas help her into her coat. “As long as our little one has blue eyes like their daddy, I’ll be happy.”
“No way, they’re going to have golden eyes and dark curls like their mama.”
Skye turned toward Lucas, her hand cupping his cheek. “How did I get so lucky to find a man like you?”
Lucas brushed his nose along the length of hers, pressing a soft kiss to her painted lips. “It was written in the stars, MacConnell. There was never any doubt we were going to end up right here, together.”
Skye blinked away tears as she stared at the top of her desk in awe.
“Giovanni, get your ass out here. Lizzie’s cheating, and I need you to play interference before I throw her off the balcony.”
“Hey!” Lizzie shouted.
Skye ignored them, her hands falling to her flat stomach as tears of wonder continued to fall. She was going to be a mother…a wife. Holy shit.
There was a quick knock on the door before it swung inward. “Hey, did you hear me?”
Wordlessly, Skye looked over to Lucas.
Rushing to her side, Lucas knelt beside her. “Baby? What’s wrong? Why are you crying? Is everything okay with Nan?”
“Everything’s fine,” she assured him, brushing away her tears and grinning at him.
He gave her a skeptical look. “So, what’s with the tears?”
Skye shook her head, not ready to share the secret that had been revealed to her, but Lucas was having none of it.
“Spill it, Giovanni.”
“Not gonna happen, Detective,” she said, standing.
Lucas stood and crossed his arms. “Wanna bet?” His lips were tilted in a sexy grin, and his blue eyes stared at her with a look that made her heart race.
Knowing they wouldn’t make it out of the room anytime soon if he kept looking at her like that, Skye shrugged and said simply, “I had a vision.”
Brows furrowing, he asked, “Who died?”
She shook her head. “No one. This time it was a life vision.” She grinned at her little joke, even as her heart gave another flutter at what was waiting for them.
Lucas looked relieved, his smile growing. “So, the tears were relief, then?”
Skye nodded. “I Saw the future, and for once, I can’t wait for it to come true.”
Wrapping her in his arms, Lucas held her tight. “I don’t need your gift to tell me what our future holds, Skye.”
Tilting her head back to look up at him, she teased, “Me kicking your ass at cards?”
“You wish, Giovanni.”
“Nah,” Skye whispered, threading her fingers through his hair and pulling his face down toward hers. “I already have everything I wished for right here.”

This is a bittersweet one for me. Writing with one of my best friends has been an incredible experience, and I am sad to see it come to an end, but so proud of how Skye and Lucas’ journey concluded. Huge hugs and love to my co-author Jess, may you never run out of pickles and nacho cheese :P
To my husband, you are my biggest supporter and number one fan. I love you <3
Mom, I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always...
Melissa, Raye, Chanda, Heather - I’m pretty sure this book would still be only half-written if not for your words of encouragement and our daily sprints. Thanks for welcoming me into the fold :)
To my Chosen, thanks for sticking with me and for all your thoughtful emails and messages. You guys are the reason I keep writing.
Fiona, Jessa, and Dominique, once again you’ve outdone yourselves. Your hard work makes our words shine. Couldn’t do it without you.
I guess its time to start writing the next book…

About Meg Anne
Meg Anne has always had stories running on a loop in her head. They started off as daydreams about how the evil queen (aka Mom) had her slaving away doing chores; and more recently shifted into creating backgrounds about the people stuck beside her during rush hour. The stories have always been there; they were just waiting for her to tell them.
Like any true SoCal native, Meg enjoys staying inside curled up with a good book and her cat Henry... or maybe that's just her; sunburns hurt! You can convince Meg to buy just about anything if it's covered in glitter or rhinestones, or make her laugh by sharing your favorite bad joke. She also accepts bribes in the form of baked goods and Mexican food.
Meg loves to write about sassy heroines and the men that love them. She is best known for her fantasy romance series The Chosen.

About the Author

Jessica Wayne is the author of over fifteen fantasy and contemporary romance novels. The latter of which she writes as J.W. Ashley. During the day, she slays laundry and dishes as a homeschooling stay at home mom of three, and at night her worlds come to life on paper.
She runs on coffee and wine (as well as the occasional whiskey!) and if you ever catch her wearing matching socks, it’s probably because she grabbed them in the dark.
She is a believer of dragons, unicorns, and the power of love, so each of her stories contain one of those elements (and in some cases all three).
Jessica lives in Texas with her husband, kids, their two German Shepherds who think they’re both cats, and a fluffy orange cat named Leo who thinks he’s a dog.
You can usually find her in her Facebook group, The Wayne-O’s, or keep in touch by subscribing to her newsletter where she shares updates as well as shenanigans she finds herself in.
