  Cici nodded.

“But you’ve all shown such an affinity for the darkness.” Raising her hands to the sky, she once again became electrified. “I banish you all. To the darkness. To the darkness for all eternity!”

The barn walls fell away, exposing all the blackened sky.

Harley looked at her imprisoned father and encased him in a clear bubble as well.

“Perhaps, one day I will look in on you,” she said as they floated up into the darkness.

  “No!” Ashely cried.

  “You bitch!” Cici screamed.

“This is not over,” Stephen said.

“Oh, yes, it is,” Harley responded.

With them out of sight, Harley turned her attention to the many zombies wandering aimlessly.

“What will become of them?” Harley said to her mother.

“They are lost souls,” the Queen of Spring said. “With the Dark Fae Wizard gone, they have no mission, no goal… They have no orders to follow. They have no thoughts for themselves and no reason for vengeance and destruction. Their fight was Stephen’s fight. Now they have nowhere to go.”

“So, they’ll just wander about?” Harley said, recognizing a few of the Fallen Fae students who’d turned to the dark side.

The Queen of Spring looked at Harley and reached out to finger a bright pink lock of her multicolored hair. “You have the power to give them their lives back. You can turn them human again.”

  241

  Rachel Angel

“I can?” Harley said, a little surprised by the range of powers she now had.

“For those who wish to return to human form, yes. If any wish to remain dark fae, there’s really nowhere for them to go. They shall be banished.”

Harley smiled as she looked out into the field and saw more and more of the aimless zombies.

“All right,” she said. “Here goes.”

“Wait,” the Queen of Spring said. “You mustn’t do it now.”

Frowning, Harley looked at her mother.

  “Why not?”

“We cannot have humans roaming the Faery Realm,” she said. “You must send them back to Fallen Fae Academy before turning them human again.”

Harley nodded. “Oh, of course,” she said.

“That makes sense. Humans wouldn’t understand where they were or how they got here. Okay, so I’ll send them to the Academy.”

“Harley, dear,” the queen said gently.

“There’s something else you need to know.”

  242

Succession (Fallen Fae Academy #6) Harley looked expectantly at her mother, not quite understanding the sadness she saw in her eyes.

“I’m afraid that also means that you must leave the Faery Realm.”

Aghast, Harley looked at her mother.

“What?” she whispered almost to herself. “Mother, what are you saying?”

The Queen of Spring took her daughter’s face in her hands and looked into her eyes. “It pains me to no end to have to tell you this… I would like nothing more than to have you at my side always.

But, you must leave, Harley. As a half-human and a dark fae, you cannot remain in the fae realm.”

“But, Mother…” Harley said, choking up on the word.

“I know,” the queen said. “I’m heartbroken.

Unfortunately, the magic of the kingdoms cannot work if even a single drop of dark fae blood is in the Faery Realm.”

Harley openly allowed the tears to flow. “I’ll miss you. I feel like there is still so much that we haven’t said. I’ve only begun to know you and…”

Harley choked on her words, unable to speak any further.

“I will always be with you, child,” the queen said. “And I will always be so proud of you. Now, you must go. Bring these poor dark fae with you.

Give them their lives back… and go on and live yours. You deserve it.”

Leaning into the queen, Harley hugged her tight and whispered. “I love you. Thank you for everything. I’ll never forget you.”

The queen nodded as she smiled. She looked up to the men who were standing close-by, waiting.

Harley caught the direction of her gaze. “Can they come with me?”

“Yes,” the queen said. “Your life back at the Academy should resume where it left off before your father made such an unexpected visit.”

Harley nodded, then quickly pulled back, looked out at the roaming dark fae zombies, closed her eyes and opened them once again… back at Fallen Fae Academy.

  Chapter 20

  Harley

The first week back at the Academy was spent meeting with one lost zombie dark fae after another. Despite all her powers, she could only bring humanity back to one dark fae at a time. It was time consuming, but well worth it.

She then concentrated on rebuilding the portions of the campus she’d destroyed. Once again, she made improvements, including rendering every new building indestructible.

Happy with her work, she returned to the dorm room she’d newly created. Even larger and more luxurious than the last, she was eager to get home and relax.

On opening the door, she smiled.

  246

  Succession (Fallen Fae Academy #6)

“Welcome home, Harley,” Kingsley said. He stood flanked by Oak on one side and Red and Zed on the other.

She hadn’t seen them in a week. “Guys!” she let out as she ran to them. “I was starting to think you had all forgotten about me.”

“Are you kidding?” Oak said. “How could we forget you?”

“We had a lot of unfinished business to attend to in the Faery Realm,” Zed said.

“Good news,” Kingsley added. “A treaty between Fall, Spring, Sea and Woods has been signed.”

“Yeah,” Red said. “Thanks to you, we have unified the kingdoms.”

“And tonight…” Oak let out loudly as he brought forth a bottle of champagne. “We celebrate.”

He popped open the bottle and poured the bubbly into champagne flutes.

“Here’s to you,” Kingsley said as they all raised their glasses. “The most beautiful, exciting and powerful girl in all the world.”

  247

  Rachel Angel

  “Here, here,” the others cheered.

“And,” Kingsley went on, “while we’re at it, I have something else to say.”

They all looked expectantly at him.

“You know that I love you, Harley,”

Kingsley said. “I would like to now make that official. I want to marry you, Harley.”

“Oh, Kingsley,” Harley cooed as she brought her hand to his cheek.

“Hey, wait a minute,” Red said. “I mean, I was going to wait until after dinner, but I wanted to ask for your hand in marriage.”

“No,” Zed said. “I’ve been wanting to ask since we last saw you here at the Academy, but I was abruptly called back home.”

Oak got down on bended knee. “I never thought I would want to marry until I met you.”

Looking at all of them, Harley smiled. “I love you all, each and every one of you. One, just as much as the other. What you’re asking of me now is impossible? How can I choose?”

“She’s right,” Kingsley said, holding his champagne flute up to her. “There will be plenty of 248

Succession (Fallen Fae Academy #6) time to make a decision. For tonight, let us just celebrate our victory.”

Harley downed her champagne in one gulp and held out her glass for seconds.

Laughing, Oak filled her glass up again.

“You’re really in the mood for a celebration.”

“You’ve no idea,” Harley said, leaning lustfully into him. The champagne on an otherwise empty stomach left her instantly giddy and horny.r />
The guys all looked at one another and cocked an interested brow.

“Come on, guys,” Harley said as she peeled off her blouse. “I haven’t seen you in a week, and the days before that weren’t really great, so…” She turned around and headed to her bedroom, dropping her blouse along the way. “Who’s with me?”

  Epilogue

Harley stood on her balcony that overlooked the entirety of the Fallen Fae campus. The newly created dorm had six stories and she’d taken the entire south facing corner of the sixth floor. Her spacious balcony wrapped around the corner, giving her a view of the administrative building and the sports complex beyond from one side, while the other portion of the balcony gave her a view of the water fountain, the sculptures that surrounded it and the forest that enveloped it all.

The queen had sent word to her that very morning. Having reviewed the laws of the Faery Realm, she’d learned that Harley could return to the Kingdom of Spring, but only if she accepted her role 250

Succession (Fallen Fae Academy #6) as Princess of Spring and forever relinquished her part in the human world.

It’d been a difficult decision to make, but she ultimately chose to remain in the human realm, much to her mother’s chagrin.

Leaning on the railing, she contemplated this new chapter in her life. She considered the possibility of getting bored. After so many weeks of intense action, could she resume the life of a mere mortal?

She heard the sliding door open behind her followed by soft footsteps.

“Hey, there,” Kingsley said as he came up behind her, putting a hand on either side of her.

“How long have you been up?”

“Seems like forever,” she said with a faint smile as she thought back to the endless night of lovemaking with all her men. “Isn’t it a beautiful morning? Just look at that sunrise.”

“You seemed preoccupied by something other than that beautiful sunrise when I came out.”

She turned around in his arms and looked up at him. He was so strikingly handsome. He’d aged 251

  Rachel Angel

somewhat since she’d first met him. There was a maturity in his eyes and a strengthening of his jaw that hadn’t been there before. It only added to his appeal.

“I received a message from Mother this morning. Apparently, my status as princess would allow me to return to the Faery Realm.”

  “That’s great news,” Kingsley said.

She shook her head. “But I would never be able to return to the human realm.”

“Oh,” he said softly. “I see.”

“There was also something else in her message,” Harley went on, reluctant to bring it up.

  Kingsley waited.

“Seems my father left behind one final gift to me and all of humanity,” Harley said. “Before returning to the war in the Faery Realm, he unleashed some of his dark fae into the human realm to continue his plan.”

“Crap,” Kingsley let out. “For real?”

Harley shrugged. “Looks like my father had several tricks up his sleeve.”

  252

  Succession (Fallen Fae Academy #6)

“Hey,” Oak said as he came out to join them.

“Is this bloke trying to talk you into marrying him instead of any of us?”

Red and Zed soon joined them.

“What did we miss?” Zed said.

“Just that my father is taking a last shot at ruining everything.”

“He unleashed a final set of dark fae into the human realm before heading to the Faery Realm,”

  Kingsley clarified.

“What are you going to do?” Red said. “Are you going to go out there and try to find him?”

Harley looked at them all. “I have to. I can’t let him win. I can’t let him destroy all of civilization just because he thinks humans are weak and must be taken over, controlled, enslaved, or killed.”

  They all nodded their understanding.

“I can’t believe that he could do this,” she said. “It’s as if it will never end.”

Oak smirked. “Does that mean our wedding is off?”

  253

  Rachel Angel

Harley laughed, happy to see that he understood, and that he could still make her laugh even when she felt so horrible.

“I think you all know that I can’t marry just any one of you. I love you all, and I want you all.”

  They gathered around her.

“Do you guys think you can come around to the human realm every once in a while and spend some time with me?”

“Once in a while?” Zed said. “Just try to stop me.”

“I’ll be here every single day,” Red added.

  “Same here,” Oak said.

Kingsley hugged her tight. “Wherever you are is where I want to be… always.”
