Kellen kisses my temple, sparks jumping between us. “We will feed you, give you all of our power until you are great enough to win any battle, and you will never leave again.”
“Yes,” I hiss as the storm inside me settles.
Lifting an arm, I reach for the others, wanting them with me before the need to sleep and digest takes hold and I pass out.
Emil steps into Kellen’s room, shrugging out of his jacket and setting it on Kellen’s dresser.
As Tobias follows, his arm swings forward, revealing a purple sequin pillow in his hand. His black eyes meet mine. “A truce. For tonight, only.”
Which means, at midnight, I can sneak out with it. I curl closer around Kellen’s body. “Truce.”
The bed dips as Emil crawls onto the bed behind me, bringing the blankets with him, and Tobias passes me the pillow before he joins from the opposite side.
I cuddle it between my arm and Kellen’s stomach, its prickles driving away the last of my ability to stay awake.
My eyes flutter shut as Emil snuggles up to my back, slinging the blanket around us, and a hot hand catches mine, fire skating along my bones.
The foot of the bed bounces, and Kellen growls, “No cats!”
“We called truce,” Emil reminds him.
Smiling, I crack an eyelid open as Tac stomps around to find a comfortable spot for himself before he flops down with a huff, one large wing spread to drape over Emil and me for added warmth.
Kellen grumbles about cat hair and slobber, his voice a gentle rumble of thunder under my ear, and the last of my tension seeps away.
Tomorrow may bring new monsters to fight, but for tonight, I’ll sleep soundly, surrounded by my demons of destruction, back where I belong.
