“How can you be so rough around the edges, and so daring, yet still be the most tender-hearted man I’ve ever known?”
Beau turned and looked into her brown eyes. “You made me this way, Scarlett. It wasn’t until I fell in love with you that I became this sappy.”
“I don’t think you’re sappy at all. I think you’re wonderful.” Scarlett kissed his cheek, and her warm lips in contrast with the cold early morning air sent a rush of heat through him.
He closed his eyes and put his lips closer to her ear. “Life with you is a dream come true. Thank you for giving me everything I’ve ever wanted. I never thought I could have it all, but with you, I do.”
“I could say the same for you. I felt so lost before coming out here to the ranch. I would have never expected to come to the middle of nowhere and find myself, but that’s exactly what happened.” Scarlett said, resting her head on his shoulder and rubbing her hand over her pregnant tummy.
“I guess Dr. Lachele really does know what’s she’s doing,” Beau joked. “I never thought I could trust a woman with purple hair, but I have to hand it to her, this is the happy ending I’d always dreamed of.”
“Oh, look!” Scarlett said, pointing excitedly as a comet streaked across the sky. “I guess this was worth waking up for.”
Beau thought back to the years he’d spent alone before Scarlett, isolated and in denial that he’d ever need someone to make him happy, and he couldn’t agree more. Some things were definitely worth waking up for.
