Everything was so right, so perfect in this moment that Wade wanted to stay right in this second of time forever. Suddenly he felt Suneth, really felt him and not just his body pressed against his, but inside. He felt Suneth’s emotions and knew his thoughts.
Sand particles filled the air around them and for a moment Wade didn’t think he could breathe. As the particles entered him, Wade felt his cock throb and he came again with such force his balls hurt. Then he felt it. Like an invisible thread that pulled them together and wrapped around them. He felt one with Suneth and he loved it.
Suneth licked his shoulder and dropped back, panting and mewling. Wade didn’t know where the thought came from, he just knew he needed to do it. He leaned in and bit Suneth on the shoulder. Not enough to break skin, but enough to give his mate a bite of pain. Suneth lost it beneath him and screamed his name as Wade felt the warm wetness shoot between them.
Wade felt a peace come over him like he had never felt before as his heart clenched in his chest. He lifted his head and claimed Suneth’s mouth in a tender kiss that was just as powerful, if not more, than the sex they had just had. Wade ran his hands up Suneth’s side, caressing him. He broke the kiss, and looked down into Suneth’s glazed eyes and Wade smiled. He knew his little man was in what was called sub space.
He pulled back and lowered Suneth’s legs, then ran to the bathroom and cleaned himself quick, before returning with a warm damp cloth. He cleaned his mate and removed the spreader bar, then massaged his ankles and thighs.
Wade lifted Suneth and his man moved with him, but was still kind of out of it. He helped Suneth to the bed, pulled back the covers and helped Suneth climb in, then laid next to him and pulled the covers back over them. Suneth instinctively rolled to his side facing Wade as he wrapped an arm around Suneth, pulling him close to his side. Suneth laid his head on Wade’s chest as Wade ran his hand down his mates back.
“Sleep, my little man,” he whispered, then kissed the top of Suneth’s head. Once he felt Suneth completely relax against him and his breathing evened out, Wade knew his mate had fallen asleep. Wade released a contented sigh and closed his eyes. He felt like he was right where he was supposed to be for the rest of his life.
CHAPTER 10
"Damn, Commander, what the hell is in these fucking boxes, bricks? This shit is heavy," Six bitched as he helped Wade carrying in one of the last boxes he had packed up.
Wade grunted as they laid the box in the spare room, ignoring Six's question.
"Commander, where do you want this one?" Flyer asked with a strain in his voice.
"Anywhere is good, Flyer. I really want to thank you guys again for helping me out. I couldn't have moved all this stuff alone," Wade said looking around.
Six walked into the other room and opened the mini-fridge then took out a bottle of beer. Twisting it open, he took a large swig, then said, "Yeah, well if you ever want to move again, how about we do it on a Saturday at nine in the morning and not three thirty in the fucking morning. Oh, and make sure Bullseye and Shadow's asses are here to help. My back is fucking killing me."
"First off, don't bitch at the time, you know we work better at night, and as for Bull and Shadow, Day wanted to finish out their testing for the department and he asked if he could do it this forty-eight-hour shift because he has babysitting duties the rest of the week," Wade replied.
Six laughed. "I still think it's fucking crazy that a man can have kids. I don't even want to think about how I would react if I found out I was pregnant."
Flyer snickered, "You couldn't handle giving birth, Six. You already whine when you stub your toe."
"Fuck you, Fly," Six said tossing the bottle cap at the man.
Wade smiled. "I don't know, I think it would be great to have a kid or two. I mean, I don't want to have it personally, but I think it would be awesome to have a family."
Snake cleared his throat, as he walked in carrying another box. "There's more boxes."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Six muttered setting his bottle down and following Flyer out the door.
Wade turned to go back to the truck when Snake surprised him by grabbing at his arm and asking, "Can I talk to you a minute, Commander?"
Wade's eyes widened. Snake was not a talker―not at all. He would often sit for days without saying a word. He and Shadow had to of been the quietest in his team. They gave the term silent but deadly a whole new meaning. "Of course, Snake, what can I do for you?"
Snake didn't say anything at first and Wade could tell he was a bit uncomfortable. Hell, Wade thought it was because the man didn't really like to talk, but then he spoke, "Commander, I would like your permission to ask Rory out."
Wade blinked and said nothing. Then Snake quickly said, "I really like him, Wade. I mean I'm not just trying to get laid or anything."
"You want to date my brother?" Wade asked in awe.
Nodding, Snake replied, "Yes, sir."
"Why are you asking me? Shouldn't you be asking him?" Wade asked, still in shock that Snake wanted to date his little brother.
Snake went to speak when Six and Flyer came back in with two more boxes. Seeing or feeling the tension in the room, Six asked, "What's going on? Is there a problem?"
Wade looked at Snake without blinking, answering, "No. Can you guys give us a minute?"
Both Flyer and Six looked at Wade then Snake, then left the room.
Once Wade knew they were out of earshot, Wade again asked, "Why are you asking me, Snake and not Rory? He's a grown man and can make choices for himself."
"I know that, Commander, but he is still your little brother and if Rory and I were to go out, I don't want things to be awkward with us," Snake answered.
"How I feel isn't going to matter, Snake. I can say I like and respect you a great deal, you know that. However, if you hurt Rory, I can promise that I will not rest until you feel pain like you've never known it,” Wade said in all seriousness.
Snake shook his head, saying, "Commander, I can honestly say that hurting Rory is the last thing I want to do."
Wade continued to look at Snake and could see the sincerity in the man's words. Wade wasn't kidding when he said he liked and respected Snake a great deal. Snake was a weapons specialist that had an affinity for knives. He was quiet, observant, and had saved his as well as the rest of his teams lives more than once. "I don't like to think about my baby brother in a relationship, but if he was to get into one, I can honestly say I think you would be a man I could say is more than worthy. I don't know what chance you have though. Rory isn't a real outgoing kind of guy."
Snake scoffed, "Tell me about it. I see the sideways glances he gives me, and I know he's interested, but every time I get near him, he scurries off somewhere else."
"Rory has always been kind of shy," Wade stated.
Snake looked slightly troubled, saying, "Maybe, but sometimes…when he doesn't think anyone is watching, I can see…not really a sadness, but more a haunted look come over him. I want to ask him if he's alright, but…"―shrugging, Snake continued, ― "I'm not real good with words and I don't want to embarrass him knowing I saw that private moment."
Wade raised a brow, smirking, "Snake, you suck with words. I think this is the most I've heard you talk in one shot, in all the years we've known each other."
"Rory is worth the energy," Snake replied without hesitation.
Starting for the door, Wade replied, "It concerns me that something might be upsetting Rory and I've not seen it, nor has he spoken to me about it. Then again, we had been apart for over a decade and are working on getting to know each other once more." Giving a short laugh, Wade muttered, “I still can't believe you want to date my brother."
Six pushed passed Wade carrying a box, saying, "Shit, who wouldn't want to date your brother, Wade? Radar is fucking hot as hell. He has that just out of bed look with those arctic blue bedroom eyes. If only he wouldn't wear those baggy clothes. Then again, it does make you want to peel back the layers and see what prize lies und
erneath. Damn…wait! Who's dating Radar?"
Flyer snapped, "Would you fucking move, Six, this box is heavy."
"Snake," Wade responded to Six's question.
Six moved into the room and set his box down, turning back to Wade with a brow raised. "Our little serpent wants to date Radar?" Six asked, then burst out laughing.
Wade watched as Six bent over laughing. "What is your problem, Six? Snake is a good man."
Six straightened up, still laughing as he wiped his eyes. "I know. It's not that."
"Then what is your problem, Six?" Snake asked in a low hiss.
Trying to catch his breath, Six replied, "It's just that one of the quietest men on our team―the man with the one word answers, wants to go out with the communications expert."
"Well, they do say opposites attract," Flyer replied, setting the box he held down and stretching his back. "That's the last of the boxes, Commander."
Six went to the fridge and pulled out beers handing them to everyone, then picked up his opened bottle. "This is a really nice place, Commander, but I'm still surprised you agreed to move here instead of having Suneth move to your place."
"He's the king to his people, Six. He needs to be close to them. Besides, this puts me in between my old place and the team’s new home," Wade replied.
"Did Twix and Rhys really build this suite onto the house for you guys?" Flyer asked.
Wade nodded as he drank deeply from his beer bottle. "Yep, pretty cool, right? They said they wanted to give Suneth and I a mating gift. I about shit myself when I stood outside watching their handy work."
Flyer sat down on one of the boxes. "I know we've seen Bull and Shadow shifting, but it seems like Crystal and Maddox are way beyond what we know. It's kind of hard to wrap your mind around. You know what I mean?"
"Shit, I don't know if I'll ever get a grasp on this shit, but the people seem nice enough," Six replied.
"Where is Suneth, anyway? I figured he would want to help with your move," Flyer stated.
Finishing off his beer, Wade started for the door. "He and some of the others are doing their perch."
Following Wade out of the room, Flyer asked, "What exactly is a perch?"
"If I understand what Suneth said, it seems that the gargoyles must turn to stone for a complete twenty-four hours. This allows them to decompress, otherwise they could be in the middle of battle, lose control and shift to their statue form without control," Wade explained.
"So where do they do their perch thingy?" Six asked.
Snake pointed up to the roof. "There."
Looking up, three stone gargoyles could be seen. Six asked, "Which of those are Suneth?"
Wade scoffed, "None. That is Sylux, Nuzan, and Asbuth. Look above to where our suite is."
High in the air, above all the other gargoyles, perched Suneth, crouched in his stone form.
"That is so cool!" Flyer gasped.
"Beautiful," Snake whispered.
Wade couldn't agree more. His mates wings were folded behind him with the tips perfectly pointed upward, with a blood red sky forming a beautiful sunrise in the background.
"Who's that?" Six asked pointing to something flying around the gargoyle territory.
"That's Ozcog, Jett, and Finn. They are on protection detail for the gargoyles here since the others are at the same training Shadow and Bull are at," Wade replied.
"What the hell is that?" Snake snarled.
Wade turned in the direction Snake was looking. A large black cloud with lightning striking all around it was heading at a fast pace towards them.
The two dragons quickly landed and shifted. Finn grabbed his phone and made a call, while Jett ran towards Wade and his men yelling, "We have incoming."
"Incoming what?" Six asked, racing to his SUV and opening his trunk.
Wade went to his own truck and pressed the buttons needed to unlock his cargo lockers directly under the bed of his truck. Two long shelf-like bins eased out and Wade pressed more numbers opening the bins. His arsenal was at his fingertips, but like Six, he needed to know what they were facing to understand what weapons he would need.
Jett yelled out, "I have no fucking clue, but whatever it is, it’s fucking huge. Finn already called in Illan. Some will have bows or swords, others might be able to throw fire bombs or electric bolts."
Hearing the uncertainty, Wade shouted, "M4A1's now!"
Wade turned just as Jett and Finn took hold of each other and a giant two headed-dragon took off into the sky above them.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Six hissed, turning back to his Durango.
"Where the fuck are you going?" Flyer shouted out.
Six opened his trunk and switched out one magazine for another. "Green tips might be best for this shit."
Flyer raced to Six's vehicle. "Toss me some."
Wade didn't like his mate or the other gargoyles being so vulnerable. York yelled out, "Nugget, bring ‘em down and stay inside with Suneth and the others after you do. I'm serious, no going to the barn."
"Okay, Yorkie, but be careful," Timmy sadly replied.
Wade about swallowed his tongue when he saw York come around the side of the house in green footsie pajamas.
"Nice look," Wade said, doing his best not to laugh but failing miserably.
York gave Wade a meaner than hell look, snapping, "Let's wait and see what you're willing to do to put a smile on your mate’s face."
Wiggling his brows, Wade replied, "I already do that, and it doesn't require footie PJ's."
A loud crack of thunder brought both men back to the situation at hand. Lightning lit up the sky around them and a dark funnel began to form. "Is that a fucking tornado?"
Shaking his head, York yelled out, "It's a portal opening up. Timmy is bringing Suneth and the others down from their perch."
"I thought the bad guys weren't able to portal into Crystal or Maddox?" Wade shouted back as the thunder cracked louder above them.
York turned to get further away, shouting, "I guess they found a way in. Cover me while I shift."
Wade shot into the funnel even though nothing had exited as of yet, making sure not to hit the gargoyle flying towards the storm clouds. Suddenly a large green dragon was flying high and going in the same direction as Ozcog and Finn and Jett's two-headed dragon.
Turning to see his men's positions, Wade shouted, "Flyer, get our ear coms!"
"Already done it," Flyer said, running to Wade and handing one to him.
"Six, call Radar and tell him log into the surveillance we put here last week," Wade ordered.
"On it," Six replied while making the call.
Lightning hit all around the gargoyle house and a loud screech had Wade looking up in time to see Ozcog locked in battle with a fairy. Wade knew he was a fairy because the enemy was a green-winged man with a sword. Claws were dug into the fairy's abdomen as the fairy slashed at the gargoyle. Both broke apart only to have Ozcog lunge forward once more.
"Wade, look out!" Snake shouted as he began firing his weapon.
CHAPTER 11
Another fairy dropped to the ground next to him, and Wade realized he had damn near bit the big one, playing lookie-loo instead of bad-ass soldier that he was.
“Thanks, Snake,” Wade replied, grabbing his weapon and firing at the fairies that seemed to be just falling from the sky.
"What the fuck are those?" Six shouted out.
Turning, Wade could see what looked like gorillas with four arms. They were coming out of the funnel by the dozen. "I have no fucking clue."
Flyer started shooting, yelling, "They look like Girallon."
Wade, Six, and Snake looked at Flyer with raised brows. Flyer shrugged. "What? If I am going to live in the land of the paranormal and crazy, I would like to know what I might come up against. I only remember them because they look like a silverback gorilla with four arms."
Flyer watched the group coming closer, yelling out, "Don't shoot yet."
"Are you fucking nuts?" Si
x shouted back
Flyer held his hand up, saying, “I just need to figure out who the pack leader is."
Wade watched as the beasts drew closer. He saw two of the beasts look towards one in the middle and he shouted, "The big fucker in the middle, Flyer."
Flyer aimed his weapon and fired. He hit the beast in the chest, but the fucker didn't fall. He shot three more times and the Girallon stumbled. The other beasts were almost on them, and Snake hissed low and deadly, "We need to fire."
"No! If we can take the damn thing in the middle out, trust me we won't have to fire a shot," Flyer insisted.
Arrows flew overhead, and Wade barely missed getting one in the chest. Six fired repeated shots and three fairies fell dead to the ground.
"We are fucking sitting ducks here! Damn it, Flyer, kill that fucking thing now!" Wade ordered.
"I'm trying, Commander. I hit the bastard eight times, he isn't going down!"
“Fuck this shit!" Six snapped, rushing to his truck and pulling out his old reliable. He pointed it towards the beasts, then fired. The Girallon in the middle exploded as did three others surrounding him. Smiling wide, Six said, "Shoulder cannon works every time."
Wade was shocked when the remaining beasts turned on each other and began to fight. Flyer looked at Wade. "They have to have a leader. If anything happens to the one they had, the others automatically fight to rule the pack. They should be busy for a while."
Wade's communicator crackled, and Rory's voice came through, "Uh guys, you have incoming from above!"
Looking up, Wade saw at least fifty fairies were heading in their direction. Wade looked to see where the others were. Jett and Finn were in battle with at least five fairies, while Ozcog and York fought another enemy Wade didn't recognize. "We are on our own here, boys. Let's do what we do best."
