She then snuck into the trailer home, rock still in hand, and hit Sam on the back of the head. She had quickly grabbed his pistol and argued with Norm before shooting him in cold blood. She was currently being held at MCI-Cedar Junction, a maximum-security penitentiary southwest of Boston, awaiting a full psychiatric evaluation before her official sentencing.

Carla slid her fingers in Sam’s, bringing him back to reality. He turned to find her looking up at him and smiling.

“You’re cute when you’re thinking,” she teased. “You should do that more often.”

Sam grinned back. “It would lose its luster if I did it all the time, Baby,” he said. “Gotta keep things fresh. Don’t want you to get bored.”

Carla kissed Sam gently on the lips.

“I think it’s pretty safe to say I’m never going to get bored with you in my life, Sam Lawson.”

He laughed. “For the record,” he said. “You pulled me into this little adventure.”

“You know how it is,” she said with a wink. “Got to keep things fresh.”

  Acknowledgments

It truly takes a village to write a book and there are so many people to thank, I can’t possibly list them all. But here are a few…

Thanks to Ashley Previte, who introduced me to Martha’s Vineyard and helped me bring it to life in this book. And a big thanks to Shelley Upchurch, whose insights and input were invaluable (that’s a lot of in’s). I also want to thank Arte Levy and Wesley Hicks for their technical advice, Caroline Johnson for her fantastic cover design and Cyndi Stripling for her keen proofreading eye. And I am filled with gratitude for the help, advice and support of a special group of readers and fellow writers, including Lorraine Evanoff, Yvonne Pelletier and James Hewitson.

Finally, special thanks also goes out to Colin Wilson and Mallory Wilson for their input and opinions. And just for putting up with me in general.

And thank YOU for reading Dark Harbor! I hope you enjoyed it.

  About the Author

David K. Wilson grew up in East Texas, surrounded by enough colorful characters to fill the pages of hundreds of books. He has been an advertising copywriter and creative director, and is probably responsible for some of the junk mail you’ve received. He is also a seasoned ghostwriter and screenwriter. He currently lives in upstate New York, where he still complains about winter every single year.
