She pulled back a little, her purple eyes glowing as she looked up at him. “So if I do, and I say I don’t yet…” her voice was soft and teasing, just between them. “Will you still try and make me fall for you?”
“Y… what?” His brain played catchup rapidly as her words registered and he barked out a laugh, pulling her close to kiss her deeply, passionately. Less a kiss and more a promise of a lifetime of love and laughter together.
“My love, if you let me… I’ll spend every day until we’re old and decrepit and ready for our eternal sleep together proving that I love you, mate.”
“I think that might just about do it.” She wound her arms around his neck and purred. “I love you… but didn’t realize it until I saw you fall.” Her eyes filled with tears. “I thought I’d lost you and I couldn’t bear it.”
“You didn’t, though,” he reassured her, kissing her again. “And your dragon woke. She’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen… apart from you, of course.”
“She is me.” She smiled against his lips. “And are you sure? My wings… they don’t work properly.”
He wrapped his arms around her, holding her against his chest. “Then I’ll be your wings. Always and forever.”
Epilogue
A year later

“That’s it, Haki, support her head… you’re doing great,” Zahra smiled at the youngling as he sat, stiff as a board, her newborn daughter cradled gently in his arms. Roc-Rose, known as Rosey, yawned and blinked up at the teenager, violet eyes sleepy.
“She’s beautiful,” Haki breathed, his touch gentle as he cradled the little girl.
Zahra smiled as she stepped back and felt her mate’s strong arms wrap around her from behind.
Looks like I’m not the only male smitten with a dragon, he rumbled with amusement. I think half the males here are wrapped around her little finger.
She chuckled, turning her head so he could claim her lips. As it should be. You wyvern males need to know your place.
And where is that? He broke their kiss to smile at her, dark heat in his eyes as he pulled her backward into the darkness toward the path that led up to their eyrie. Because your place is in my bed…
Heat and love filled her heart as she turned in his arms to kiss him properly before pulling away to link her fingers in his.
“I think that sounds like a good place to start.”
