Dying Humanity Page 20

“We can do this,” Bristy said.

Jensen taught the spell to Bristy and Sam. We just needed to convince the people in our camps to give their blood. It won’t be easy, but we knew we could do this. This was a chance to kill Jonas, to end his reign. Now I had hope. I would finally get to kill him for what he has done to me, to the camp, to everyone. This time I will end this for good.

  CHAPTER 20

We went back to our camp and told everything to Tanner and some people in our camp. We invited the leaders of courgers, the forest camp and the Nancy hotel camp and gathered in my house to talk about it.

“Witchcraft? Is that true?” Nathan asked.

Bristy snapped her fingers and Nathan started levitating in the air.

“Okay, okay, I believe you. Magic exists. Put me down,” Nathan said, shivering in the air.

  Bristy put him down.

“I always wondered how Jonas became so much powerful with that watch,” Ethan rubbed his chin. “I guess it was magic then.”

“Yes, and now we could defeat him with magic,” Sam said.

“We can’t do this alone,” I said. “We will need a lot of people. The lake will be flooded with your blood. Bristy and Sam will draw energy from it and destroy Jonas’s watch.”

“Are you sure this will work?” Tanner asked, giving a puzzled look. He was still not sure that it would be done.

“We have nothing against Jonas, Tanner. He is invincible. Jensen was never wrong. This will work I know. We can finally kill him,” I inhaled deeply. “This is our chance.”

Tanner nodded. “Okay, let’s do this guys,” he rubbed his hands. “Tell everyone. We will finish this in ten days. If we all go together, Jonas will know. We will do this, slowly. A thousand people will go and give their blood on a single day and then the next thousand and so on.”

“Great, but everyone has to know,” I said. “So spread the message and be careful, Jonas and his men can’t find out about this or else everything will fail.”

  Tanner nodded.

“Don’t send a thousand people at once,” Nia said. “Take turns.”

“Yeah,” I jammed my hands in my pockets. “I am thinking about a hundred people every hour.”

We told everyone about this. More people knew and it became easy for us to tell everyone. We had a plan. We selected who will go on which day at what time. It was a lot of people and took us a week to figure that out. After we were ready, people started going to the lake every day. I wanted to start first and initiate the ritual. So as we planned, the first hundred people gathered around the lake to give their blood.

It was the first day in the early morning. We were standing at the edge of the lake ready to give our blood.

Nia gave me a knife. “Let’s hope this works,” she said.

“It will work,” I cut my hand with the knife and poured some blood on the lake. “Will this be enough, Jensen?”

“Yes, a few drops would do it,” Jensen replied.

I looked at the people who gathered around to give their blood. “Thank you for doing this,” I said.

“Don’t thank us, just kill Jonas and end his reign. That’s what we want,” one of them said.

I nodded and raised my hand. “This is the beginning of his end.”

They started giving their blood to the lake. After an hour another hundred people came and started giving their blood. It went on like that. As they all came in small groups, Jonas and his men didn’t suspect anything. After five days, the whole lake was red. Fortunately, Jonas wasn’t aware of what we were doing. He was busy expanding his territories and bringing back more dead people. His men were working on building a new camp. Everything was going according to the plan until one day some of Jonas’s men came to the lake and saw it.

“Why the lake turned red,” one of Jonas's men said, eyeing at the lake. “Is it poisoned?”

  “Maybe,” another one replied.

“We should tell Jonas about this.”

“What? No,” he shook his head. “This is not a problem. The lake just turned red.”

“But why?” he shrugged. “There must be something happening in it.”

Reena and Ben saw them talking about it. They were at the lake house fixing its door.

“What should we do?” Ben whispered.

“We can’t let the plan fail,” Reena whispered back. “Tomorrow Bristy and Sam are going to do the spell,” she took out her knife. “We have to kill them.”

He widened his eyes. “Kill them? Jonas may find out.”

“If we don’t kill them, Jonas will definitely find out. Do you want that?”

Ben tightened his cheeks and sighed. “Okay, okay. Let’s finish them.”

They sneaked behind them. There were only two of them. Reena and Ben quickly grabbed their mouth and stabbed them from behind. It was so quick that they died instantly. They pushed them in the lake and their bodies floated in it.

Bristy was inside the lake house. She saw them from the window and came running towards them. “Oh my god! What have you done?” her lips trembled.

“They were going to tell Jonas,” Reena said.

“Jonas will know now. He will know if his men are missing,” Bristy put her hands on her forehead. “Oh god! What have you done?”

“Look,” Reena grabbed her shoulders. “You are going to do the spell tomorrow. Jonas won’t find out before then.”

“No, he will,” she hissed. “Stan checks every night if all Jonas's men are present or not.”

  Ben raised his eyebrows. “What?”

Bristy nodded. “Yes, you screwed up. Now we have to start the spell early,” she looked around. “Jensen, can we start the spell early?”

“Yes,” Jensen answered. “But more blood makes it more powerful. You should have blood of about ten thousand people, that’s why I recommended it.”

Ben sighed. “Still a thousand people are remaining.”

“Then, let’s call those people now,” Reena said. “We can do it,” she put back the knife in her belt.

“Go inform Ross and Tanner,” Bristy said. “I will start the spell.”

Reena and Ben went to Ross and Tanner. They were with Rowena, Aaron and Ambrose at Tanner’s house eating. Reena and Ben entered the room in a rush.

“Guys, we have a problem,” Reena said, trying to catch her breath.

“What happened?” I asked, putting down my spoon.

“Two of Jonas’s men came to the lake and suspected that something was going on.”

Tanner’s eyes widened. “What?” he stood up in shock.

“Yes. They were going to tell Jonas so we killed them and threw their bodies in the lake.”

“Oh god!” I smacked my forehead. “What have you done?”

“They are going to tell Jonas, the plan would have failed.”

“Plan will fail now,” Tanner said, glaring at them. “They will find out that they are missing.”

“That’s why we came here,” Ben said. “Bristy is going to start the spell now. She isn’t going to wait for tomorrow.”

“No, we still need the blood of the remaining thousand people,” I said.

“We don’t have time. Stan will know tonight that his men are missing. We can’t wait till tomorrow. We have to do this now.”

I nodded. “Okay,” I stood up and looked at Tanner. “We have to call the remaining people now.”

Tanner nodded. “Grab the list of people who are remaining and tell them we are doing this tonight. If we all search for them together it will be easy.”

We went outside and called all the remaining people who were left to give their blood. It took time as there were a lot of them. After three hours we gathered all of them and made separate groups so that Tanner’s men don’t suspect anything. We all marched towards the lake taking different paths. Bristy and Sam have already started the spell. They lit up a fire near the lake and gathered the required ingredients.

  “Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!” Jona
s shouted from his house.

We just left our houses and heard him shouting in pain.

“It is happening I guess,” Ambrose said, looking at Jonas’s house.

“Yeah, he is hurting,” I said. “Maybe it’s because of the watch.”

We kept walking. We had to reach the lake soon. Jonas crashed out of his house and landed on the ground. He kneeled down and screamed. “What is happening to me? My body is on fire,” he growled.

I looked at everyone. “Don’t stop. Keep going. We have to finish this. We got only one shot.”

We all kept marching towards the lake. It was half a mile away. Jonas was jumping and crashing into houses like crazy. The pain was too much for him. His men had no idea what was happening to him. Some of them tried to help him but the pain was so unbearable that he ended up hurting them. We didn’t stop and kept moving. Jonas was punching the walls and ground. He was tearing up houses apart. We didn’t look back and kept going. After a couple of minutes we reached the lake. Bristy and Sam were murmuring the spell.

I looked at our people. “Go, grab a knife and pour your blood on the lake,” I pointed my finger at the lake. “Come on, hurry, no time to waste.”

All of them ran towards the lake and started pouring their blood. There weren’t enough knives or needles, so it was taking time. They were doing it one by one. There were a thousand people, it would take hours.

“Oh god! This will take a lot of time,” Aaron said, putting his hands over his head.

“Use some other thing, your teeth, anything sharp, just bleed,” I raised my voice. “We don’t have much time.”

Jonas flew onto the lakeside and landed on the ground.

“So this is what causing it,” Jonas’s face reddened.

“Don’t stop the spell,” Jensen said. “If you stop, it will be over.”

Bristy and Sam continued their spell. Jonas was screaming in pain but still he didn’t take off the watch from his hand.

“I will kill all of you,” Jonas yelled. Rage bottled up inside him. But the pain was too much, he fell on the ground groaning.

Jensen also joined Bristy and Sam in the spell so that it becomes more powerful. People were giving their blood at the lake, but it was taking time. Jonas was hurting but somehow he stood up and began to move forward towards Bristy and Sam. I sprinted towards Jonas and punched him, he fell again. “You are not going to win today,” I said.

He stood up and kicked me hard. It was so powerful that I crashed into a nearby tree and passed out.

“Ross!!!!” Nia shouted and ran towards me.

Aaron ran towards Jonas and grabbed him. “Come on! Help me stop him. He is weak now.”

Reena, Tanner, Ben and Norman ran towards them and helped Aaron. They grabbed Jonas and stopped him from reaching Bristy and Sam. Jonas’s power was weakening. He tried to push them away with every ounce of energy he had but it wasn’t enough.

“We are almost there,” Jensen said. “Keep him there.”

The spell continued for a couple of minutes. Jonas struggled as he was in immense pain. He tried to get away from Aaron and others grasp, but he couldn’t as he wasn’t feeling powerful enough. His whole body was aching and sweating. The power in his watch was diminishing every second. People at the lake kept giving their blood. They used anything they could to make them bleed. Jonas somehow gathered his strength and got away from Aaron and others grasp. He sprinted towards Bristy and Sam. Ambrose came in front of him to stop him but he couldn’t. Jonas snapped his neck in a second and Ambrose died instantly.

Jonas grabbed Bristy and Sam’s neck. “You can’t defeat me,” his throat clenched.

“Go to hell,” Bristy said. “Lamio matao farita sono,” she finished her spell. The watch blasted and it burned his hand.

“Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!” he screamed and took off his hand from their necks.

His power was gone. The watch was destroyed. He fell down on his knees groaning. I was lying unconscious near the tree. Nia woke me up shaking my arms. “Ross, look it worked,” she said.

I adjusted my vision. Aaron, Reena, Ben, Norman, Sam and Bristy were beating up Jonas. He was a normal human again. Just then Stan and some of Jonas’s men came running to the lake and pointed their guns at us.

  “It’s not over,” Stan said.

Bristy half smiled. “It is. I have the power of ten thousand people,” she snapped her fingers and all of Stan’s people got their neck snapped by an invisible force. Stan was confused. For the first time I saw the big man scared. He pulled the trigger of his gun. The bullet stopped near Bristy. “I told you. Your time is over,” she snapped her fingers again. The bullet went backwards and it hit Stan’s chest. He fell down grunting. “Your protection spell is reversed,” she said in a heavy voice. “You won’t come back from dead this time,” she snapped her fingers again and took a deep breath. They were all dead.

Jonas was covered in his blood coughing and grunting. Aaron, Reena, Ben, Norman and Sam were beating him really bad. He was begging for mercy.

  “Stop!!” I walked towards them.

Aaron looked at me and raised his eyebrows. “What? He killed our parents.”

“I know. We will kill him,” I said. “But first we have to bring back Michael. We will kill him together. He should have his revenge too.”

Tanner and some of our people went to Michael’s home and brought his wife and his dead body to the lake. This was the right time to bring him back. He would now get to kill him. We lay his body on the ground and poured the reanimation drink over it. His body healed up in a few seconds and he woke up.

Michael’s wife, Rachel was sitting beside him. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw her. “Rachel……….she………..” Michael shivered.

“She is fine, Michael,” I said softly.

Rachel leaned down. “I am okay, Michael. I am free, we all are.”

Michael sat up and looked at Jonas. He was lying on the ground injured a few feet away.

I put my hand over his shoulder. “Let’s kill him.”

Michael nodded and stood up. We dragged Jonas to the edge of the lake.

“Please, Ross, no. I beg you. Let me live, I will never come back here,” Jonas begged.

“I told you. You will pay for what you have done,” I said, grabbing his collar.

“No please, no. I will be better,” he shivered in fear.

“Goodbye Jonas. Your reign is over,” Michael and I drowned his head in the lake full of blood.

He struggled to breathe. We looked at the night sky. It was clear, stars were shining bright. Michael and I exchanged a look drowning Jonas in the lake. Jonas was patting his hands against the water trying to get up but he wasn’t strong enough. The water filled his lungs after a minute and he died. His body floated in the lake along with his two men that Reena and Ben killed before.

Nia wrapped her arms around my neck. “You did it,” she said.

  I smiled. “I did.”

It was over. We won. Jonas and his people were gone. We were finally free. Bristy and Sam lost their magic like Jensen warned us, but it was worth it. The whole camp belonged to us. We were finally independent.

Ambrose was lying dead on the ground. Aaron looked at his body. “Should we bring him back?” he said.

I nodded. “He is not the same person he used to be. He changed.”

“Yes, and we need him anyway,” Tanner said. “He has to make reanimation drinks.”

“Yeah, he died trying to stop Jonas,” I took out a reanimation drink from my bag and poured over his body. His body healed and he woke up.

  “Jonas……………..” Ambrose’s breath quickened.

“It’s over man,” I said. “He is dead,” I pointed my finger at Jonas’s body floating in the lake.

Ambrose smiled. “So, it’s finally over.”

I smiled back. “Yes, he is gone.”

We all celebrated the whole night. Jonas’s rule ended. He and his men were gone. Finally, we were fre
e after so many months. I missed mom and dad. I could never get them back. They were just gone. We arranged a funeral for them and all the people that died fighting Jonas. The camp was ours now, but we had a long way to go. The population was more than five hundred thousand, but still we had a lot to do. The world had to heal, a government had to be formed, foods needed to be grown. It will take time to heal the world, but we are going to do it. One day it will be like before. We started again for a better future.
