“Is that what you want to do?” I asked, meeting his eyes.
“I mean, not really, but at least I’ll be doing something. Not like I can get a lot of jobs with my abundant killing skills. Not the right kinds of jobs, anyway. At least this will keep me busy.”
“That’s true. Just try it then.”
He gave me a little smile, then touched my lips, drawing the Cupid's bow of them with his thumb.
“It’s nice to be able to talk this shit out. To have someone to talk to. Someone I can trust.”
His words warmed my chest, the feeling blooming all the way through my lungs and down to my fingertips.
“It makes me happy that you trust me,” I told him in a whisper. “I trust you too.”
Funny how to us, we might as well be saying ‘I love you’.
Trust was a big thing, and neither of us gave it away easily or freely. He had earned it in some big ways, and would always be the man I counseled with.
“What do you want to do for our honeymoon?” he asked after another few minutes of silence.
“I was thinking camping,” I told him. “Maybe in Tibet, if the weather is good.”
Back to where it all really happened for us seemed like the best place to spend our honeymoon.
“Hmm, I don’t know about the camping thing, but I know a nice hotel out there that would be happy to have a repeat customer join them.”
“I’d like that,” I told him with a big smile.
“Your wish is my command,” he said with a grin, then kissed me again.

I swallowed thickly, feeling sick for even lifting my phone to make a call to one of the biggest crime lords in the world.
Didn’t matter. I was stuck between a rock and a fucking hard place.
We hadn’t even been in the US for a year before I started seeing the tags. Men parked outside our house, following us around. It was a matter of time before they came after me and I was a goner.
Vishka was my only hope.
Surprisingly enough, the voice that answered was the one I knew was his. He’d given me his personal phone all those months ago.
“I’m ready to use that favor,” I told the man, not bothering with introductions, names, or useless words.
His answer was simple.
“What do you need?”
