Chapter Two
The Sign Of Hope
R.G.'s view...
My world was dark before the barriercumulus. The rights of the citizens come in second place to the advancements of the corporations. We have always been ruled by corporations which have organized into a Corporate Senate, and death contracts have been legalized for nearly 500 years with the start of the Assassins Guild. Out of the chaos created by the eternal night that rules most of the Western Hemisphere, fringe science has been put on the fast track. Transgenics, genetically modified organisms with an extra-genome and bio-mechas, robots built to look like living things, are common place. None of those are why this day is important. Those things I mentioned are but symptoms of a sickness that has stricken this world. I believe I have discovered the cure.
The year is 31 A.D.C. (After Dry Clouds) and the day is October 15. It's a start to a new era just as the Dry Clouds marked a new calendar. All is not black. I have found the conundrum. I can't put into words the joy that I feel. There's much work to be done, but I'm prepared to go all in. A department within the Sphinx Corporation called the Council has in their possession what they believe is a simple experiment that was deemed a failure. They have this experiment in stasis, but I will change that. I'll snatch the experiment from its icy prison.
Why am I doing this? Why risk so much now? I can't be a bystander anymore. Our world is in desperate need of saving, and a sacrifice will need to be made today as sacrifices will need to be made in the future. Do I have the fortitude to stay the course? I have to. I can't waver.
