Fortunately, he didn’t stop there. Moving lower, he kissed and teased her stomach, her hips, kissing her inner thighs and then…!

Before she could tell him not to go there, his finger slid underneath the lace of her panties and…

Jessa’s eyes rolled backwards as his fingers teased her most sensitive of places. She gripped his shoulders, overwhelmed by what he was doing and how good it felt. Her body tightened as he slid one finger into her heat while his thumb flicked against that nub. Again and again. Jessa held her breath, getting closer and closer to that point and then…

“Jayce!” she screamed, arching her back as the waves of pleasure hit her. It was almost an unending wave of intense, glorious pleasure and she wondered if she could just live like this, suspended in happiness with Jayce touching her so beautifully.

But the pleasure decreased and his finger slipped away. When she opened her eyes, taking a deep breath, she saw Jayce standing beside the bed, stripping off the rest of his clothes.

“As beautiful as these are,” he said, reaching down to pull her pink lace panties off, “I want them gone.”

And then he was naked. She was naked too, but…wow! Jayce in his full glory was…wow! His erection jutted out from hips that were strong with muscles and sinew. The muscles on his arms were tight and shockingly big.

She almost laughed when he tossed a condom next to her, but he realized what he was doing and shook his head. “We need to have more conversations before we move to the next level, Jessa,” he said, rolling the condom down over his erection.

Jessa didn’t have the words to speak, to explain what she was feeling at the moment. Besides, she was too entranced by his hands, the movement of his fingers as he rolled that protection down. Jessa realized that she was actually jealous of his hands, wanting to do that task herself.

“Next time,” he promised, seeing the desire in her eyes.

Then he came down, bracing himself over her again.

“Last chance to pull away, Jessa,” he warned, even as he pressed his body against hers.

“Don’t stop,” she sighed, relaxing into him as his erection pressed into her heat. Lifting her knees, she held her breath as Jayce pressed in deeper, then pulled out. With each thrust, he moved deeper into her heat and she wanted all of him, wiggling her hips to take more of him. “Too slow,” she groaned.

“You’ll appreciate this soon,” he promised.

Jessa moaned, loving the way he felt as he filled her up, deeper and deeper.

That’s when he started to shift his hips. Her eyes flew open with the new friction and her nails tightened on his shoulders.

  “Jayce?” she gasped.

“Don’t fight it, Jessa,” he urged, moving his hips again and there…! He did it again. And again. Over and over, he shifted so that his body hit that nub, bringing her closer and closer to that magical point! Her fingers tightened and her body arched, her hips lifting in time with his thrusts and….that was all it took. She couldn’t even scream this time as her body shivered with the next release. She felt Jayce thrust a few more times, then he was with her, groaning as he shifted against her body.

He collapsed against her, his warm breath heating up her neck and Jessa wanted to smile. To thank him. Even just lift her arms to wrap around his neck…anything. But she was limp.

Breathing. Hard, labored breathing was all that she was capable of. Jessa’s eyes were closed so she only felt Jayce move away from her. She heard water running in the bathroom, but still couldn’t move.

“Jessa?” Jayce asked, coming back to the bed, his weight shifting the mattress so that she rolled towards him. He wrapped his arms around her and she sighed, breathing in the delicious male scent of him.

“Still hate sex?” he teased, and at that moment, his hand traced along her back. She looked up at him, unaware of the heat in her eyes. But Jayce saw it and smiled. “I’m guessing that would be a complete reversal on your previous position,” he answered himself, then laughed, rolling over so that she was once again underneath him.

“I think we should try that again, but with a few twists on the original theme.”

Jessa was just about to tell him that she didn’t think she could handle additional twists. But then he did something with his hand and…Jessa discovered that she was very much in favor of those additional twists!

  Chapter 11

Jayce walked into the office the following morning, unaware of the spring to his step.

“Why are you whistling?” Carly demanded, glaring up at him as if he’d just tripped her.

Jayce laughed at her mutinous expression. “A better question would be - why are you in a foul mood?”

“Never mind my mood. Why are you so happy?”

He chuckled at her sourness. “Am I not supposed to be happy?”

She sighed and shifted on her feet. “Jayce, you’ve been ready to tear heads off over the past two weeks. And now you walk into the office smiling and whistling. What’s goin…” she stopped abruptly and frowned at him. “You’re….!” She moved closer, sniffing him before stepping back. “Aftershave. You don’t wear aftershave!”

“How the hell would you know?” he demanded, trying not to reach out and ruffle her hair. He knew that would rile her and he wasn’t in the mood for a cranky Carly.

Okay, so she was already cranky but…still. Cranky Carly could explode into Vindictive Carly and he didn’t want to find himself with a load of paperwork simply because he’d messed up her hair.

And then he noticed something. “You changed your hair.” An excellent change of subject as well as focus, he thought, mentally patting himself on the back. “It looks nice.”

When she nervously reached up to touch her hair, his eyes narrowed. “Why did you change your hair, Carly?” he demanded, his voice lowering as suspicions popped into his head.

“We’re not talking about me,” she countered. “We were discussing your oddly good mood. What gives?”

He shifted, turning to face her with his hands on his hips, feet braced apart. “Now we’re talking about your hair. Why did you change your hair? You’ve had the same haircut for…well, forever. Now it’s shorter. Why’d you cut your hair?” The shiny locks curled around her jawline, the ends floating just above her shoulders. What the hell?!

“Fine! If you don’t want to tell your favorite sister why you’re in such a good mood, then I’ll just leave you alone.” She spun around and headed in the opposite direction.

Turning around, he found Ryker less than a foot away. “Hey, did you…”

“She cut her hair ten days ago,” Ryker growled, stepping around Jayce, heading towards the security room.

Jayce stared after his friend for a long moment, trying to connect the dots.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Oz demanded as he hurried down the hallway.

“Wrong with me?” Jayce replied, completely confused now. “Did you know that Carly cut her hair?”

Oz stopped. “She did?” Then he shook his head. “It doesn’t matter. There was a spotting of Thwacker in Morocco. We’re trying to verify the intel.”

Jayce instantly shifted gears. Gone were thoughts about Carly and her sudden change in hairstyle. He focused on catching this guy who seemed to be impossible to catch. He was responsible for too many soldier’s deaths over the past two years. Oz, Ryker, and Jayce had vowed to catch him and bring him in. There were several other units that were trying as well, and they had promised to share information on the guy.

As they stepped into the security room, an area that had a wall of monitors and looked like something out of a science fiction movie, another thought occurred to Jayce. Ten days ago, Ryker had adjusted the obstacle course. Coincidence?

Jayce didn’t believe in coincidences. But figuring out the connections had to wait. As soon as all three were in the room, one of the monitors lit up, showing General Kemp, the man in charge of the entire military’s elite forces. General Kemp coordinated the covert oper
ations of each unit and was one of The Solutions Groups’ primary clients.

“Gentlemen, here is what we know so far,” General Kemp explained. Ryker, Oz and Jayce knew that the general was briefing several units, providing updated information. The units were competitive, wanting the victory of bringing in Thwacker themselves. But they also worked together, understanding that whoever this Thwacker was, he’d done too much damage to too many areas around the world.

  Chapter 12

Jessa’s fingers flew over the keyboard. Two weeks! Good grief, she’d been having sex with Jayce for two weeks! It was…magical! Never in her life had she thought that any activity could be so…inspiring. But as she typed the next scene in her novel, she smiled as the words flew from her fingers. This novel was shaping up to be one of her best! And she gave a lot of the credit to Jayce, who inspired her with his touch, helped her feel things that she’d never thought were possible!

There was also a happy feeling that bubbled up inside of her with the knowledge that he would be here at the end of each day to make love to her.

At first, she’d worried that she wouldn’t be enough for him. Jayce was worldly and exciting and buff and gorgeous! He was funny and smart and all the things she wasn’t. Jessa knew that she was mousy and shy. Her introverted nature was perfect for being an author, since she literally spent days without seeing anyone. But Jayce didn’t seem to be bored with her. In fact, just the opposite. Every time they came together lately, their need for each other seemed to increase.

  It was just…magical!

Two weeks of incredible sex. She’d never experienced anything like…!

  Two weeks.

  Two weeks?

Jessa’s fingers froze over the keyboard. A fraction of a second later, she was scrambling through the neatly stacked papers on her desk, shoving the files of research out of the way as she frantically searched for her calendar. When she found it, her fingers shook as she flipped to the page for today’s date.

“No!” she whispered, her finger sliding down the page, then flipping back to…! “No!” she gasped. “Oh, please no!”

Sitting back in her office chair, she let her gaze drift out over the lake. She would be ovulating this week. Ovulating. Which would mean possibly getting pregnant. She and Jayce had talked, deciding that Jayce would father her baby so they’d stopped using condoms. No protection! No protection for almost two weeks! Any day now, that pesky egg that she’d so desperately wanted to introduce to a happy sperm cell only a month ago, would be dropping down into her uterus and…she had no doubt that Jayce’s outgoing, adventurous sperm was strong enough to reach her introverted, shy, mousy but eager egg. That would be it. No more dinners with Jayce. No more wine on the deck by the lake. No more conversations, or movies or card games where he let her win because he didn’t think she’d play with him any longer.

No more making love with him during the long, steamy nights.

“Damn it!” she snapped, closing her laptop a bit harder than was necessary. She stalked out of her office and grabbed a glass of water from the kitchen, cursing her luck.

“Yeah, I know. This whole thing started because I wanted a child.” She gulped down the water, thinking about how cute a child of Jayce’s would be. He was so strong and vital, she could picture him as a kid, climbing trees and chasing bugs or imaginary bad guys. She could see Jayce in the lake with their kids, teaching them to swim, showing them how to be careful around water.

“I want more,” she announced to the empty kitchen. “Just one more month? Was that too much to ask?” Surely, she’d get bored with him after another month of sex. They’d run out of ideas on experimenting. She’d probably be sore and…

“Right,” she grumbled and turned away. “I’m outta here,” she told the silent, empty house and grabbed her purse and car keys. She’d make something special for dinner tonight. If this was going to be their last night together, then she was going to make it special!

“We have a problem with a team in Laos,” Carly announced.

Jayce looked up from his computer where he hadn’t really been doing anything anyway. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

“There’s been chatter about some insurgents in the area. And our team’s communication has been sporadic. They haven’t been checking in regularly.”

Jayce leaned back in his chair, contemplating the possible solutions. But one thing kept popping into his mind. He and Jessa had been intimate for two weeks. She’d just finished her period when she’d given him the green light, which meant that she should be getting close to that fertile period of the month.

Yeah, he’d been researching women’s ovulations cycles and knew a hell of a lot more than he’d known before. As a man who had always been extra careful about preventing pregnancies before, he was pretty shocked at how much he hadn’t known. He’d gone through life simply using protection with every interaction with the women in his past. But there was so much that happened during the month in a woman’s body.

He’d also been researching what would happen when she became pregnant and he was more fascinated by that process than he was about preventing a pregnancy.

But now, faced with the possibility of not having Jessa in his arms at night, he felt a bit sick to his stomach. Yes, helping Jessa get pregnant had been the whole point. But to him, it was so much more. It was…important. Jessa was important! And damn it! He wasn’t ready to give up that part of their relationship! Not yet anyway! He wanted more time! Jessa was shy and introverted. She didn’t need men in her life, she was perfectly happy being alone! But…he wasn’t! He didn’t want to be alone and he didn’t want to give up being with Jessa! He loved their evenings together. Hell, he loved how she opened the door each morning to kiss him goodbye, that shy, gorgeous smile on her face, and the way she bit her lip, as if she wanted to say something, but didn’t want to smile too wide, didn’t want to reveal how happy and satisfied she was.

And he knew for certain that she was satisfied! The screams and sighs when he touched her in those dark and sexy ways told him that she was a fully satisfied woman! And Jayce could admit to himself that he was more satisfied with Jessa than he’d ever been with any other woman he’d ever been with. And saying that he was satisfied was such an understatement.

“Earth to Jayce!” Carly called. “I need help here! You’re the only genius in the office right now. Give me guidance. Should I send out Marcus or Tom?”

“I’ll go,” he announced, surprising both himself as well as his sister. Carly’s mouth fell open and she stared for a long moment. “But…just a few days ago, I suggested that you take on the issue in Lebanon and you said no. You said that you didn’t want to leave the country for a while. You said…”

“Forget what I said, Carly. I’m saying now that I’ll go,” he told her and stood up, pressing the keys that would lock his computer down.

Ten minutes later, he pulled into his driveway and parked. Normally, he wouldn’t take the time to stop at his house when he was flying out on a mission. Every member of his team carried a go-bag in their car, ready to leave the country at a moment’s notice.

But he wanted to talk to Jessa. He’d never explained his job to her, and she deserved that.

As soon as his car pulled up, she was outside, a worried expression in her pretty brown eyes. Damn, it felt good that she cared! He knew it wasn’t love. They had an agreement…but still, it felt good! It was also nice to have someone to say goodbye to before leaving.

“What are you doing here?” Jessa asked, stepping down from the wood porch of her house as she lifted a hand to shield her eyes from the sunshine.

He stood so his body blocked the sun and he could see her eyes. “I’m sorry, but I have to go out of town for a bit.” Was that relief in her eyes? “I’ll be back very soon and we’ll continue with your mission, okay?” He bent down to kiss her before she could respond. He’d meant for it to be just a quick kiss, just a brushing of his lips against her soft mouth. But he felt h
er lips shift and a brief caress just wasn’t enough. He needed more. So he pulled her into his arms and kissed her until he felt her arms wrap around his neck, relief surging through him that she still wanted him! Damn, he wanted to carry her into the house and make love to her. He wanted to strip off her clothes and see what color underwear she’d put on this morning. He’d discovered that his shy, introverted Jessa was quite the surprise in the underwear department, wearing pieces that were bright and colorful, sexy and sometimes outrageously naughty. It was awesome!

Jessa was such an intriguing mixture of surprises!

When she did that thing with her teeth now, nibbling at his lip that usually made him nuts and want to rip her clothes off, he pulled quickly away. They were both breathing hard now, but he firmly set her away from him. Ovulating!

He felt like a complete asshole for not following through on his promise to help her. But selfishly, he stepped back, needing more time with her. Needing so much more damn time! He just couldn’t risk her getting pregnant this first month.

One more month with her and he’d fulfill his promise. Pulling away from her was almost painful, but he stepped back and…went for one more kiss…then turned and headed for his SUV. A moment later, he pulled out of his driveway and headed for the airfield where the jet was standing by.

Jessa watched Jayce drive away, feeling the most intense surge of relief she’d ever experienced. He wouldn’t be here for the next few days! Excellent! Goodness, his business trip couldn’t have come at a better time!

Turning around, she practically danced back into the house and into her office. But before she sat down at her desk again, she thought of something and walked right back out, down the hallway. The big room right next to hers…it was currently filled with storage items, boxes from her parents’ house that she hadn’t unpacked yet, even years later. She wasn’t even sure what was in the boxes.
