  Nope. Cutting that thought off.

“No popping,” I repeat. My eyes flick to each of them, waiting for their individual nods of agreement. Van nods first and easiest. Kastros next with a brisk tilt of his chin. Raz just smiles at me and holds up his hands like he won’t touch. Zolroth juts his lower lip but nods. Then I turn back to Akor, wanting his confirmation.

He makes a pouty face for a second before his eyes light up in a way that’s both terrifying and electrifying. “Then I call the first slice of cherry pie!” And he sets me on my feet and dives underneath my beautiful white skirt. Literally dives, like a swimmer—full body with his hands over his head and everything.

I’m so shocked that I can’t even process for a moment.

  Because who does that?

His entire body is under my skirt, and his hands are around my hips before I can move. I feel him nuzzle me there.

Oh snickerdoodle! What the hell is happening?

When I send a panicked “save me” look to Zolroth, the British demon only stalks forward with hooded eyes and takes my arms. “Use me for support, love,” he murmurs calmly as I feel Akor’s teeth nip at my panties.

“But, but…” I should be saying no. I should be. But Akor’s hot breath blows through the fabric of my lacy underwear and heats my slit. And I’m not sure if he is putting off crazy magic the way that Van throws off lust, but that flips a switch for me. His hell-heated breath makes the inside of my dress into a sauna. And it only takes a few seconds before I’m dripping with desire.

My eyes fly over to Raz, who simply stomps closer and reaches up to palm my breast through my dress.

I find I need Zolroth’s arms. I clench down hard on his muscular forearms, and all sane thoughts vanish from my head when Van wanders closer. He turns my head towards his for a gentle kiss, his lips barely brushing mine.

Akor nips hard at my inner thighs before his wet tongue trails up my panties, right to where I want it most.

I feel something brush against my back and break the kiss for a second to glance up and see Kastros looming over me, his hard dick pressed against my spine as his hands grab my hips. He doesn’t press or move or do anything further, just holds me still, like he’s anchoring me. But his touch makes me feel…complete.

All of them are touching me.

Akor slides my panties to the side, and his lips close over my clit, making pulsing sensations shoot through me just as Van pulls me back into a kiss. My mind is shredded to ribbons that float and dance through my head. Behind my eyelids, tiny lights shoot back and forth like comets… Did you know comets are cosmic snowballs? That little fact bounces around in my brain for a second, until Akor’s tongue slides between my folds and no more thought is possible.

I jerk in Kastros’s hold, my hips thrusting.

“Yes,” I hear Zolroth breathe, “come for us, love.”

Any sliver of self-consciousness I might feel is obliterated when Raz pinches my nipple through my dress. I’m gone. Katrina’s out to lunch, sign hung in the window, lights off. Whoever’s inhabiting my body now is wild and unrestrained, and she moans and jerks her hips closer to Akor’s magic mouth.

I bite down fiercely on Van’s lower lip as I come, writhing and twisting, only kept upright by all of their hands on me.

When I return to myself, my embarrassment rushes back, singeing my cheeks.

I swallow hard and have difficulty making eye contact with any of them as I regain my balance and straighten the top of my dress, before gingerly lifting my leg over Akor and stepping aside to see his face completely coated in my juices.

  Oh God.

“Did that just happen?” I whisper, hands flying to my cheeks. I can’t believe it.

“Yup.” Raz swaggers over to me, his smirk dark and dangerous.

Zolroth adds, “I’m pretty certain you’re going to tango with each of our tongues tonight.”

  Oh God.

“Stop saying his name, he’s got nothing to do with this, Kat.” Van gives me a sexy grin.

Kastros saves me. My huge giant demon spins me around, away from the others, tucks me in against his chest so that my cheek is pressed against his heart, and we start to sway completely off-time from the Halloween-themed music that floats in from the other gym.

Concrete Blonde’s “The Beast” blares, and though the instruments have a rough, hair-band-style rock feel, the lyrics resonate with me. “Love is the beast that will tear out your heart.” My heart is gone. I know it. I’m pretty sure these demons know it.

But tonight is just one night, one moment when time is suspended. This—whatever this is—can’t last. They’re demons from Hell, and I’m nothing but a human whose mere existence can cause them physical harm. The selfless thing would be to leave, to allow them to live their lives without my interference. But…

I don’t know if I’m strong enough. I don’t know if my heart can take it.

  Question is, what happens now?

About The Lost and The Hunted

What’s the worst part of being a snow leopard shifter? It wasn’t the epic-sized hairballs or the constant nudity.

No, it was the fear. The fear of being captured and becoming another statistic, another underground prize. When an unintentional rescue results in some accidental consequences, Celeste knows that the sunny-natured Reese will have her back.

However, she didn’t plan on his best friends being quite so hostile, or the fact that Reese was one of the youngest billionaires in the US. His friends look at her and see just another gold digger; one they want gone by any means necessary.

Fine, she hadn’t planned on staying anyway, but while she was here, she was happy to play cat and mouse with Lincoln, the jacked-up bodyguard and Vincent, the way too pretty rockstar. Because her snow leopard? She wanted to roll around on them like they were catnip and she’d never been great at self-denial.

But death still waits in the shadows for its prize, and this time, there will be no accidental savior coming to her rescue.

  Celeste

I let out a few choice expletives that would have made my well-to-do mother blush. Not that my mother cared much whether I lived or died; however right now, the latter looked like it would win out. I backed up another foot, hazarding a quick glance over my shoulder, cursing under my breath at the sight of the brick wall blocking my path. Sighing, I psyched myself up for a fight, curling my fists into tight balls, my jaw clenching and unclenching rhythmically. I ran scenarios in my head. There were three attackers, that meant I would have only one decisive move, and then I’d be back on the defensive. If they were normal, corner-a-girl-in-the-darkened-alley type of attackers, the odds would be much more in my favor. I had participated in self-defense classes like any good city girl. My instructor told me that I fought like a psychotic mongoose, but it was effective, at least.

Unfortunately, these weren't your ordinary drunken louts or sexual predators. They were highly skilled hunters that caught people like me for glory and huge monetary rewards. They dealt in preternatural trafficking. Of course, there were varying remuneration levels, and a lowly little shifter like me would probably only bring a couple of million, maybe more if the buyer had a fetish for snow leopards.

I gritted my teeth; if I’d already been in my snow leopard form, this would be a different story. I would shred these assholes into ribbons and then use their corpses as a scratching post. Unfortunately, it would take a full eight seconds to morph. Eight seconds where I would be completely helpless and for people like these guys, eight seconds was long enough to have me bagged, tagged, and off to be a kinky rich asshole’s pet kitty cat.

I hadn’t given up just yet though, and I let out a growl as I pushed off the wall, doing my best impression of a war cry. I managed to punch the one furthest to the left in the throat, making him crumble to the ground, gurgling noises escaping from his mouth. I might be in my human form, but I could still throw a mean fucking punch.

The other hunters barely spared a glance for their struggling comrade. I let out an ear-piercing scream and went to lunge for the middle one when there was a yell at the mouth of the alley. The hunters turned towards the uncertain threat, but that was all the opening I needed. I backtracked towards the dead-end at a sprint, morphing as I went, and used the wall as a springboard to launch myself at the remaining attackers. I had the benefit now of being hefty but small in snow leopard form, like a fluffy cannonball, and no matter how well trained the bounty hunters were, they couldn’t fight gravity, and both went down. I put in a few deadly swipes with my razor-sharp claws, but didn’t stick around to see if I’d done any damage. I ran as fast as my four legs would take me towards the opening of the alley and the relative safety of the crowded main road. I belatedly realized I couldn’t exactly run around the streets of downtown Chicago in my shifted form. A snow leopard running through the crowd would raise the eyebrow of even the most jaded city dweller. I morphed as I ran, which was blessedly quick compared to the change to leopard, but it left me naked as the day I was born. I sent up a silent thank you to a design student I’d met in a refuge, who also happened to shift into a rabbit. She custom made clothes that remained somewhere on your person when you shifted. Being a prey animal made you aware of these things, I guess. Now I had a huge range of wrap dresses with studs that popped open when I changed into a snow leopard. I did up my dress as I ran, hooray for public decency, but I had to slow as I reached the entrance of the alley and almost ran into my accidental savior.

A guy stood there, and I guessed he was about twenty-five. His mouth was hanging wide open, his eyes like luminous satellites on his face. I couldn’t blame the guy for looking shocked, but if he didn’t get out right now, he would be unintentional collateral damage. I grabbed my savior’s hand.

“Run!” I yelled. I couldn’t really leave him here to face the bounty hunters alone, now that I kind of owed him one. I pulled him along the street, and he put up little resistance in his stunned state. I sincerely hoped that he’d just stumbled out of the bar next door and was drunk enough not to remember this later.

We were back out onto the main street, and we weaved in and out of the teeming crowd. I didn’t give a shit how many people we smacked into, or the cross words that were shouted after us. I threw a quick look over my shoulder and swore when I spotted the hunters weaving their way through the crowd after us. I let out a double-fuck when I realized Hunter number three had recovered from his throat punch.

I turned to my blondhaired savior. I needed to ditch him and his tall ass, but the humane part of me knew I couldn’t leave him behind until we lost the hunters. They weren’t known for their compassion for human life and would be mad as a shaken hornet at the loss of their bounty. I knew I owed this guy, and besides, he was kind of cute with his floppy hair and dopey look.

“We need to lose them,” I yelled back to the guy and veered off towards a shopping mall, tugging on his hand to hurry. Thankfully, there were crowds out already, partying their way through the wine bars or the harassed parents dragging their kids around the mall. Hordes of people moved in and out of the mall's entrance, and I quickly pushed my way through the entrance and then let the crowd envelop me.

We had to be as inconspicuous as possible, so I shook my hand out of the guy’s and quickly plaited my hair into a long rope before twisting it up and tucking it into itself. My hero was quite tall, and he may as well have been a beacon with all that golden curly hair. Even though I was no longer holding his hand, he was still following along behind me. I sighed, looking around for something that would help disguise him. My eyes fell on a stall that sold hats and socks in the middle of the walkway. I picked up a dark blue cap with a wide, flat brim. It wasn’t my style, but it would fit the purpose, making him look younger and obscuring some of his facial features.

I turned towards the guy. “Do you have any money? We have to obscure that big head of yours.”

He just pulled out his wallet like a zombie and paid the vendor. I slapped the hat on his head, and walked away as casually as possible, but the guy next to me radiated tension.

  I huffed out an exasper
ated breath. “Do you have a name?”

He silently continued to watch me. Maybe he was in shock. I looked over his pale cheeks and too-wide eyes. No, he was definitely in shock. “Do you speak English?”

  Finally, he frowned. “Of course.”

“Well, that’s handy. You don’t happen to see any of those menacing-looking guys lurking around back there, do you?” I still spoke slow; even if he did speak English, he didn’t seem like he was firing on all cylinders.

“No, I don’t," he said irritably, “and my name is Reese.” His brow was knitted, and he had the funniest serious face I’d ever seen, like a toddler throwing a tantrum. It was probably the endorphins rolling around my system that made me start to giggle hysterically, and not his jutted out bottom lip.

“Luckily for you, peanut butter cups are my favorite. Come on; we should keep moving.”

I continued to giggle, but Reese didn’t join in. A group of loud college students walked past, heading toward the movie theater. Perfect. I grabbed Reese’s hand again and walked quicker, pulling him along with me, attaching us to the back of the crowd of college kids.

“We need to find somewhere where there are a lot of bodies around. Stay close behind these guys like we belong.” The collective heat of a mass of bodies enclosed tightly in a room would throw off their preternatural detection equipment. Shifters ran a bit hotter, and that’s how they picked us out of crowds.

He nodded, but his eyes had lost that dazed look and were settling on wary. Why he was still with me was a bit of a mystery, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted him to fuck off and make it easier for me to hide, or to stay with his hand clasped in mine. It was proof of how touch starved I was that I was clinging to him like this.

It was chaos inside the lobby of the cinema; parents chasing after children who were already too hopped up on candy and sugar drinks, and teens standing around doing their best to look like they fit in. I briefly glanced at the movie board, a talking animal flick, an action thriller with an explosion on the poster, and a movie that would probably win an Oscar but would be dull as hell. Eh didn’t matter. I didn’t want to wait in line to get tickets; I may as well just stand out the front for target practice now.
