But he could think more deeply on that later and how it related to the limited medical knowledge he had picked up as a student. Leading the way now, Yuri charged toward the inner chamber, Bunni behind her, followed by Micah and Liza in the rear, the nun slipping her helmet back on as she ran. Yuri stepped aside, Bunni doing the same as Micah aimed at the door and began firing on it. The lock gave way and the door popped open.

They entered like a tram running off the tracks, Yuri funneling right, Bunni left, and Micah and Liza holding the middle.

What they found wasn’t at all what Micah had expected. There had clearly been a fight between Soraya and the personal security allowed to accompany the other members of the High Council, evident in the bodies strewn about, blood streaked across the walls, and some whimpering off to Micah’s right.

The kitsune had cleaned up shop.

It took Micah another second, but then he realized that he had been off about his thinking the entire time, that this was what it was supposed to look like, that this was what they had truly been planning, a coup on steroids, considering the activity outside.

Before them, seated at a circular table, were the eight members of the Council, all but Ahmey bent forward, their hands on the tables. Looking grizzled as ever, and nursing a side wound, was Soraya, who had her helmet off and her sword at her side as she stood behind Ahmey.

“Just in time,” Ahmey said as she tilted her head up toward Micah and his companions.

They naturally circled their way around the table, Micah taking Soraya’s place directly at Ahmey’s side so the kitsune could provide better perimeter security. After all, even in her injured state, she was better trained than Micah.

This should be interesting, he thought as the young nun began to speak, Micah focusing on the literal upper echelon, the people who had been in charge of his society, and for that matter, his life in some way, shape or form, since its conception. While Micah was able to see their information on his HUD, none of their names meant anything to him. This truly had been one of the more clever moves by the Society of Monks; most people in Neo-Hokkaido had no idea who was running the show aside from the head monk at their local temple.

Aside from Ahmey, there were two other nuns, Micah recognizing the one sitting next to her as Saru, who was in on what was happening. The rest were men of varying builds, some looking younger than others, and at least two of them with the bodies of older men, clear in the way their robes were draped over their shoulders, and their overall posture as they kept both hands on the table and visible.

“The Society of Monks has broken their promise to the citizens of Neo-Hokkaido, and for that, it must be restructured,” Ahmey said, each word carefully pronounced and being simultaneously broadcast. Not only could he hear her voice in the room, but Micah could also hear her in her helmet, Micah glad to have the Hermetics on their side, the rebel group responsible for quickly transmitting the information in real time. He imagined the buildings in the Golden Trash District lit up now with a picture of Ahmey and her voice, the words typing out as she spoke.

By the end of the day, everything would be different.

  Everything.

Micah wished he could see what was going on outside. The building rumbled every now and then, and he imagined Bobi’s mechas doing some serious damage out there against whatever the Society of Monks had unleashed. There was certainly a chance for chemical warfare, but the Hermetics would all be masked up, and aside from calling in an attack on one of the lower districts, who would also be prepared for the Sweating Sickness, the monks didn’t have a lot of options.

In a way, they had backed them into the corner.

Ahmey spoke as if she knew that, the young nun quickly listing the litany of reasons she was going to be taking over management of the Society of Monks, and why she would be bringing three members of the Hermetics on board as well.

“For some time now, our society has been governed by rules of the past that no longer apply to the present, and certainly not to our shared futures. It is my goal to re-examine these rules, to bring about change in a way that will better our relations with Jokamatchi and Heian, as well as bringing representation from the Outer Districts into the fold. In their effort to control Neo-Hokkaido, the Society of Monks has turned onto a path that will only lead to more death, and further repression, not to mention the development of chemical weapons that have been tested on our own people. Those days are over.”

“You will regret this,” one of the older monks at the back said. “You and the foreign kitsune scum.”

What Micah did next was instinctual. He lifted his prosthetic gatling gun and fired upon the monk, clipping him in the shoulder. The shot was for his parents, for what the Society of Monks had done to them. But it also had an effect that Micah would later regret, one that would make this coup more violent than it already was. He didn’t realize who he had just shot, that the man was one of the oldest members of the Society of Monks and that he had some real connections, including his relation to one of the female members of the Council.

Saru, the nun who had originally agreed to join them, lunged for Micah. As she did, she pulled an energy dagger out of her robes. She dove for him, and as the two came to the ground, she was able to stab him before both were whipped off to the side by an invisible force.

Micah had never been wounded like this before; for a moment, a very brief flash as the dust settled, he wondered if he’d even been stabbed at all.

But then it became harder to breathe. He started to taste blood as everything around him dimmed. The last thing he remembered seeing was Liza hunched over him, Micah not able to register the look on her face because of her helmet.

Micah wished that he could actually see her.

  Chapter Fifteen

If Micah felt anything at all, it was a sense of numbness, as if he’d lost the entire right side of his body, Micah in some deep reverie, one wrapped in warm, neon green industria. It was as if he were floating by on a cloud, Uyanga, Coralie, and Neojuku tethered to the districts below, Jokamatchi beyond the mountains of Woodsaka, Heian in its place, the land of the Plains Dwellers.

He didn’t know if he was dead or alive, and for a moment it really didn’t matter to him. He was content in his numbness, and it was only when he began to put the pieces together that he remembered being stabbed by the nun named Saru, and how he had been whisked to the side of the room by some unknown force.

Micah had a healing factor; he shouldn’t have been this injured, enough to hallucinate. How badly had he been stabbed? Why wasn’t his healing factor kicking in?

  Where was he exactly?

Micah thought he heard sobbing, which had a way of breaking through to him. In the end, it didn’t turn out to be a sob at all, more of a sniffing, but it was certainly a show of emotion.

  And it worked.

Micah awoke to find himself lying in a bed in a location he didn’t recognize. There was a fluffy ear pressed against his face, one that he didn’t quite recognize. It certainly wasn’t Bunni’s. It was only when he stirred that the person practically lying on top of him seemed to come alive.

  “Micah?”

  “… Soraya?”

“You’re… you’re awake,” she said as she came forward to kiss his cheek. She did it again, this time rubbing the side of her face against his, Micah realizing that the reason his arm was numb was because of the kitsune. She’d been lying on top of him, and it had cut off his blood flow.

“They said you would eventually wake up,” she told him.

  “Where… are we?”

  “Heian, at Youseg’s monastery.”

  “Heian?” Micah’s eyes widened. “H-how?”

“Bobi flew us over; Youseg dealt with airspace concerns.”

“The others?” Micah asked, his heart dropping as he assumed the worst. “Are they…?” It dawned on him in that moment that they could be hurt in some way, and any sense of elation he’d felt from finally waking was instantly gone.<

“Everyone is fine, safe. They’re resting. You’ve been out for hours.”

  “What happened?”

A faint smile came across her face. “Believe it or not, I… I saved you.”

  “You did?”

Soraya nodded, the softness in her dark eyes unlike anything Micah had seen from her before. It was clear that it was late, the room dark, the only light being a lantern hanging in the hall shining green, which may have explained the colors he was seeing.

“That nun would have killed you. It worked, even though she still ended up stabbing you. Just a flesh wound,” Soraya said, her weight still pressed against his arm. He shifted and she got the hint; as soon as she changed positions, Micah felt instant relief in his arm. He also noted just how numb it was, the funny feeling making him chuckle for some reason.

  “Sorry,” he said.

  “What’s funny?”

“You were sleeping on my arm…”

“I was? Right, I was. I just wanted to be next to you. I thought that I had somehow killed you. I thought it was all my fault…”

“You said you saved me, how could you have killed me?”

Soraya let out a short breath. “My power, the one that Youseg taught us. I latched onto it to get you out of the way, but I… I was too strong. The impact actually sent you through a wall of solid concrete.”

“It did?” Micah asked, faintly remembering Liza standing over him, some dust clearing.

“It actually killed Saru, the impact did.”

  “Wow…”

Just as it had with Micah, the power to use someone else’s industria against them seemed almost dormant in Soraya, which in a way turned out to be to their advantage, both of their abilities apparently triggered by adrenaline and circumstance. Hopefully, there would be a way to get control over it one day, but at least it worked when it did.

“Heh. I guess I’m not dying then,” Micah finally said.

He was still regaining usage of his arm, but this didn’t mean other parts of his body weren’t starting to fill with blood, including a slowly building erection triggered by his proximity to Soraya’s thigh.

The kitsune didn’t hesitate to lower her hand once she noticed what was happening.

“It is rather large,” she murmured. “Just like Bunni said.”

  “She said that?” Micah asked.

Rather than reply, Soraya slipped her hand to the front of his shorts. “They have big plans for you, you know.”

  “Who?”

“Your grandmother, your wives. You’re going to have another wedding soon.”

“I am? You would think I would have some sort of say in something like that…”

“Come on,” Soraya said as she wrapped her fingers around his penis. “You knew it was inevitable.”

  “You think?”

  “A double wedding, imagine that.”

A double wedding? Is that even a thing? Micah thought as he noticed just how small her hand was around his shaft. He didn’t remember it being so small, but she was shorter than the others, and it did fit her stature. Soraya let go of his cock for a moment as she switched her positions, the kitsune now straddling him. She pressed back just a little so she could return her hand to his member, where she began slowly stroking it up and down.

“I didn’t know a peasant could have one this big.”

Micah laughed under his breath. “You’re still calling me that?”

  “I just did, didn’t I?”

“Did we win?” Micah asked, which should have been the first question that came out of his mouth once he woke up.

“Ahmey is now the High Commander, and we will know more how things shake out over the next couple of days, but yes,” she said as she stroked him just a little bit faster. “We did. I don’t know how it will play out in the long run, and if she will be able to maintain control and actually put through the changes she has promised, the changes Neo-Hokkaido needs, but it’s a start. And according to Liza, the Monks of Repose are already making their move to secure any facilities that may have biological weapons. Like I said, it’s a start. We will see how it goes.”

Micah didn’t quite know the protocol here, mostly because of his past interactions with Soraya, but he figured she was jerking him off so he could do something himself. The numbness now absent from his arm, he placed his hands around Soraya’s waist and brought her just a little bit closer to his cock. She was wearing sleep robes, which were partially open at the front, revealing a sliver of flesh, plenty more than he was used to seeing from her.

Micah wanted to ravage Soraya in that moment, to address an urge he had felt since she first attacked him, a sexual tension that he now recognized but had grown accustomed to suppressing. Yet he also wanted to take it slow, to really enjoy this one.

He lowered one of his hands to her panties, and moved it across the front of her body, grazing her pubes, which were sheltered by the fabric. Soraya let out a quick breath; Micah took this as a sign to go a little further, which he did by hiking the bottom of her panties to the side, revealing her pussy. She was slightly wet, but it was enough to get started, especially after Micah began slowly moving his thumb in a circular pattern, Soraya’s grip intensifying on his cock.

With a hand on her waist, he brought her just a little closer, so the tip of his penis could now lightly rub against the front of her sex, Soraya getting into the motion almost immediately. It was instinctual. Micah’s mouth agape as he breathed heavily, he looked up at Soraya, the two making eye contact, her body arched backwards, one of her breasts peeking out the front of her robes, nipple visible, her tail arced behind her.

She made a soft sound with her throat as he entered her. Soraya stopped moving altogether for a moment as her legs shook, her arms tensed.

  “Are you okay?” Micah asked.

“Yeah… Yeah…” Soraya started off slowly, her tiny body getting used to Micah’s girth. He wasn’t expecting her to press both hands onto his chest and suddenly throw herself into it, the kitsune moving up and down rapidly now, and with good form too, his cock never leaving her pussy.

She eventually pressed back, her knees buckling forward as she extended her neck, a smile appearing on her face. Micah now had his hands under her robes, which he moved up her rib cage and to her small breasts, cupping them as she increased her speed. Soraya was a firecracker, Micah along for the ride and enjoying every last second of it.

The kitsune switched positions, now riding him reverse cowgirl, her tail lightly sweeping against his abdomen as she kept at it. One hand on her left breast, the other in front of her, fingers on her clitoris, Micah took control to some degree for a moment, allowing her to rest as he began pumping in and out of her, Soraya practically impaled atop his cock, her body so small, so light.

She orgasmed before him, triggering a rush of tremors from the kitsune which caused him to finish inside her, Micah nearly having to cover his own mouth with the loud moan he let out as he released his load.

  What an ending.

What an absolutely fantastic ending to what could have been a terrible fucking day.

Micah did not expect the ‘big day’ to come so quickly. He was also surprised to find out what Soraya’s mention of a double wedding actually meant. Everything was set to take place just a few days later, and Youseg’s nuns and monks spent that time completely transforming one of the corners of the monastery into an affair meant for the ages with hundreds of multifarious flowers arranged on the archways, sleek silks draped from pedestals, chairs with white cushions, and an elaborately embroidered carpet leading up to the altar.

Excitement was in the air, and even though they were in a different country, Micah felt it here as much as he would have felt it in his home country, change on everyone’s minds, the true power of Neo-Hokkaido presented in its sheer power globally, how much it affected its neighboring countries. There was already talk of a truce between Jokamatchi and Heian, one to be brokered by the High Council, and while not ever
y biological weapon had been recovered yet, the Society of Monks were well on their way to keeping the promise that Ahmey had made for all Neo-Hokkaidans.

While Micah would have liked to see the change from his own country, perhaps even from his home district of Thunderhama, there was plenty to do at the monastery, and Yuri made sure that everyone kept up with their training regimen as well. She was of the mindset that fallout was still a possibility, and none of them questioned this, especially not Micah, who was increasingly starting to understand how fragile these agreements between citizen and government actually were.

“The big day has come yet again,” Micah’s grandmother told him that morning as he joined her at the breakfast table, the elderly woman already dressed in the clothes she would wear just a few hours later. There was nothing frumpy about her outfit, a tailor near the monastery seriously transforming Micah’s grandmother through her clothing into a stylish older woman. Rather than a long dress, she wore a crisp pair of pants with shoes that looked sharp, a shirt with a perfectly ironed collar and a jacket over that with a hand-stitched nature scene. It was the first time Micah had looked at her and seen the woman she used to be, a revelatory moment, and a reminder to him that everyone aged yet, no matter how much they changed, a part of them remained the same.

“You’re the one that arranged it, remember?” Micah reminded her.

“A double wedding. I’m not going to lie, sweetie, but I really didn’t see this one coming.”

  “You aren’t the only one.”

“I hope you saved yourself for your wedding night,” she said with a wink.

“Sure, sure I did. You know me…”

“No, he didn’t,” Bunni said as she peered at the top of the stairs, already in her turquoise bridesmaid dress, which accented her shapely features, her blonde hair pulled back and held by a headband with a large flower between her two rabbit ears.

Micah’s grandmother laughed. “You are a devil, Micah, just like your grandfather! Ha!”
