It had to be someone who knew something about Roger that I didn’t.
But why those letters? Why smash the picture of us? Was this person trying to send me a sign?
Did they want me to forget about him? Were they trying to warn me?
I would not get the answers I wanted just by sitting against the wall of my bedroom, nor were my tears going to fix my problems for me.
This was becoming a great deal more dangerous than I ever would have originally thought…and something told me that getting Sam involved in this again was not going to make things any easier.
This was something that only I could do.
I staggered up to my feet, wiping the tears out of my eyes.
“I will finish whatever you started, Roger. I will figure out why this person is doing what they’re doing. I will put an end to it, and I will find a way to make peace with all of this, once and for all.”
I pulled the photo of Roger out of the frame and walked back into the sitting room. I found a spare magnet on the refrigerator, and put the picture of Roger and I up there.
Then I glanced around the empty room. “Whoever you are, wherever you are, you haven’t broken me. And you won’t.”
I meant it. I was going to finish this.
