Tiger Page 23

by Kate LaMontagne

Being in love didn’t automatically make for mated bliss. Sometimes Remi tended to show a dominant side and Tiger wasn’t going to play the submissive for anyone. There were moments when he’d just had enough and needed some separation from everyone who got on his nerves, even Laoch and Remi. Especially Laoch and Remi.

Laoch seemed to love goading Remi, and Tiger had to constantly play referee for the two. He hadn’t seen a therapist yet, but he could only handle so much at one time and since he’d started sleeping with Remi, he hardly had nightmares anymore.

TJ hadn’t been able to come up with a way to keep Tiger close by on a permanent basis, but he juggled assignments to have the other guys take the missions that took them farther away from the fort. They had no issues with that. Tiger and Remi were both working with Laoch to learn how to control the feedback from their link, but it was slow going.

Tiger was slowly working his way through his mother’s journal. He found out from Laoch that the bracelet he always wore had multiple functions. For one thing, it triggered the lock on the journal so no one else could open it without the bracelet. It also sensed when there was disharmony in the natural energy surrounding Tiger. Danger, anger, stress… anything that disturbed his well-being, caused it to set up a little vibration, like an early warning system.

Laoch said it was because it was a focal point for his abilities. Most Fae did not need such a tool, but it was something his mother had acquired from a Fae mage to magnify his Fae abilities. He had to be careful not to let himself get too worked up at Remi when he was close by.

A couple of times he’d knocked Remi on his ass when the bracelet hit him with a sound wave that left it ringing for several minutes afterward, like a tuning fork. Hence the need for the “meditation room”. Remi was learning to back off and keep clear when he heard the vibrations start up.

Laoch thought it was all funny as hell, but then he always considered every incident to be a learning experience, even if they earned a few bumps and bruises along the way. They would have long lives ahead of them and they were just getting started. He had faith that they would work through all their trials and become an exceptional and powerful team, and he would be there to help them every step of the way.
