Actually…yeah, that might have worked. It has the unique virtue of being the truth, anyway. It’s what I really feel. It’s why I couldn’t tell either of them what they mean to me.
What they both mean to me.
Ugh, why is life so complicated?
With a sigh that comes all the way up from my toes I start picking up the mess Chen left me. One thing at a time, the apartment starts to get back into shape. I wish I could say it’s distracting me from the lingering tickle of Harry’s kiss on my lips, but it’s not. That’s not going away anytime soon.
But it’s Chris’s face that I see when I close my eyes.
Sometimes, the universe just throws you a curve, and expects you to catch it. Sometimes, it throws you two.
I’ve had two guys tell me how they feel, and two chances to tell them what was in my own heart, and I froze up both times. All my baggage got in the way. My past. My fears in the present. My worries about the future. All of it.
Two guys. Two chances.
Two swings. Two misses.
Maybe next time I’ll get it right.
After all. Third time’s the charm.

Strongly influenced by authors like James Patterson, Dick Francis, and Nora Roberts, Kathrine Emrick dreamed of being an author for the majority of her life.
She never quite gave up on the idea of being a published author and at the age of 51, thanks to the self-publishing explosion, she finally realized her dream. Her maturity allows her to bring a variety of experiences and observations to her writing.
She lives in beautiful South Australia with her family, including several animals. Kathrine can always be found jotting down daily notes in a journal and like many authors, she loves to be surrounded by books and is a voracious reader. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering at the local library.
