“Sure he did,” I said. “To get what he wanted. You realize that.”
“Still,” Wade said. “He saved our lives. He didn’t have to.”
“He saved us so we would do his bidding. He wants us to clear out demons and spare vampires. You did get that, right? What he did to my parents?”
“Yeah…” Voice very soft, he glanced sideways at me. “I’m sorry, Ripley.”
“Have to be prepared for anything in there,” Gideon continued as if there’d been no shift. “Maybe hiding, if he’s warned them, or all gathered and ready to fight.”
“We’ll take them,” Adam said, smirking and chewing. “Take the scumbags with a paw tied behind our backs.”
Gideon scooped the dice into the cup with one large hand and pushed it at me.
I rolled.
“Hoo-wee,” Adam blew out a breath. “Full house on a first roll.”
But I picked up the two threes, keeping the three fives, and rolled again, hunting a Yahtzee. I didn’t get one, but a damn good four of a kind with four fives.
I’d always thought three was my lucky number. But things can change so fast. Maybe it was five.
