  Acknowledgments

First and foremost, my undying gratitude to K. Bromberg. Kristy, thank you so much for allowing me to participate in this project and play in your Sunnyville sandbox for a bit. Writing in the Everyday Heroes world has been an incredible experience, and I’m still pinching myself because I got to talk to Grant Malone for a hot minute!

All my love to my fellow authors who are also playing in the KB Worlds sandbox! You’ve been nothing but the best cheerleaders, teachers, and therapists.

Extra special shout out to Rebecca Sharp for being my steadfast friend and critique partner.

Last but never least, my readers. Thank you for taking a chance on me and on Vance and Poppy.

Truth be told, I almost scrapped this project altogether. I began writing it just before George Floyd was murdered, and once that happened, I couldn’t stomach the idea of writing a maverick cop hero. It was the last thing the world needed, a white woman glorifying the actions of a police officer who liked to bend, if not break, the rules.

But Vance proved himself to be something else. When he bent the rules, he did it with the purest of intentions. He did it fighting for what’s right. And Poppy, well, Poppy only wants to defend those who need defending against those who would use their power to harm and subjugate.

I can only hope to have half their courage and conviction in the face of injustice. And maybe just a little taste of their HEA.

  Thank you for reading.

  xx Brandy
