  They didn’t.

When I was at the Samhain booth at HorrorHound for the first time, I brought it up to the staff. I pointed out how most people stop reading a book when they reach the About the Author section. Since it wasn’t a paperback, they had no idea anything else of value was beyond that page and something needed to be added to the descriptions on the websites it could be downloaded from. They told me to send an email to the marketing department and CC them in on it. I did and the error was corrected. But the correction only lasted for about a month, then it was changed back to giving no reference of The Lurkers at all.

There were hundreds of reviews for the short story. Some good, but mostly terrible. The biggest complaint that I saw was that the story seemed as if it was setting up something that never happened. It was setting up something, or so I’d hoped. And that was the reader’s interest in The Lurkers.

The positive reviews talked about how much they enjoyed the Haunchies and wanted more stories with them.

Again, these readers probably had no idea there was more Haunchy activity because it was never insinuated that anything existed beyond The Night Everything Changed.

I brought it up again to the marketing department, sent links to the several reviews that was proof of my claims, but the efforts went ignored after that.

  It was frustrating.

The Lurkers and The Lurking Season are the follow-ups to this story, if anyone wants to read more about the Haunchies.
