We did end up winning in enough time to watch Jeopardy and eat dessert. For the first time since he fell, I wasn’t sad when I said goodbye to Grandpa. I finally accepted that he was happy in his surroundings and where he needed to be.
“What do you think about remodeling our house and putting our stamp on it?” I asked Wren on the way home.
“Can I choose the carpenter?” he asked.
“Yes, because I know that you’re going to choose Andy too.” I reached across the console and patted his knee. “I want to build a life with you in a home that feels like ours. Right now, it’s still my grandparents’ house.”
“I think it’s a great idea, and yes, I agree that Andy is the man for the job.” He glanced at me in annoyance when I giggled. “Man for the construction job.”
“Oh, I thought you were finally tired of me and calling in a pinch hitter.”
“Not a fucking chance.”
“Good, because I need victory sex after the battle I fought and won tonight.”
“It was euchre in a nursing home with ninety-year-old men,” Wren countered.
“Hey, Bob and Teddy are in their seventies and are wily as hell. I had to be on my game tonight, or I would’ve tarnished the family name.”
“You’re right, Sparkles. I apologize.”
“Oh, good. An apology fuck,” I said.
“Five,” Wren said.
“Five minutes?” I asked.
“You know what number I’m talking about, Sparkles. Don’t play coy with me.”
My ass puckered, and blood rushed to my cock. “There’s no way.”
“Yeah, and people probably thought we’d never fall in love either,” Wren countered. “We did, and you will.”
“Everyone knew you were my prince. Now take me home and give me my happily ever after.”
“Yes, dear.”
Once upon a time, on a warm June day, a prince rode his trusted steed to a castle to ask for his lover’s hand in marriage. It went a little something like this…
I was nervous as fuck when I parked the Harley and got off. It didn’t help that people stared at me as I walked by them.
“I didn’t know they had period actors at Chateau Laroche,” one person said.
“Me either,” their companion replied. “He’s clearly dressed like a prince though. Let’s follow and see what happens.”
I cringed internally, but I had to shove all of that aside to focus on my main objective. Find my own prince and make him mine for good. I had a lot of help setting up my surprise, and I couldn’t let other people’s opinions count.
I looked at my watch and noted that it was almost four, which meant that I was cutting it close. I walked faster and got in position to wait for the love of my life to step onto the balcony that overlooked the castle grounds in Loveland, Ohio. It was a gorgeous stone castle built along the banks of the Little Miami River. People were milling all around enjoying the beautiful day. Some of them eyed me curiously while others grinned knowingly.
Finally, Dare stepped onto the balcony holding Tobias. My dad and Samantha stepped out after him followed by Dare’s family. I don’t know how they managed it, but they found a way to get Ralph up those castle steps because there was no way I was letting him miss out on the big moment. Grandpa smiled and waved from his wheelchair.
Dare looked down and saw me standing there. His eyes widened, and a smile spread across his face. He knew that I would be joining them, but he didn’t expect me to be wearing a red, crushed velvet jacket, black leather pants, and biker boots. The best part of the costume by far was the ridiculous crown. I had strapped it to my motorcycle so that I could wear a helmet on my way there.
“Where’s your horse, my prince?” Dare asked.
“I rode a Hog instead of a steed,” I answered.
“A modern-day prince.”
I dropped to one knee and looked up at my love beseechingly. “Will you do me the great honor of—” My words died when Dare handed Tobias to my dad then disappeared from the balcony.
It wasn’t long before he came running across the grass. “Okay,” he said, sounding a little winded after running down several flights of steps. “Now you can ask me.”
“Will you—”
“Yes!” Dare launched himself at me, knocking me to my back. “I will marry you.”
“I love you so much, Sparkles.”
“Hey, Wren? How about we sneak up to one of the rooms they roped off?”
“As much as I’d love to hear your cries echo off the castle walls when I make you come, I think we better pass.”
“Did you say yes, Dare?” Grandpa asked.
“Yes, Grandpa.” He looked down at me with tears of happiness in his eyes. “And we’ll live happily ever after.”

First, I need to thank my husband and children for their constant support and encouragement. It’s not easy living with a writer who often disappears into a fictional world for long periods of time. They do so many things to help me out so that I can realize my dream. I love you guys more than words can ever express.
To my creative dream team, thanks seem hardly enough for all that you do. Miranda Vescio of V8 Editing and Proofreading, thank you for your tireless work, feedback, and many laughs while editing. Jay Aheer of Simply Defined art is an incredible artist, and I love how she brings my words to life. Stacey Blake of Champagne Formats is also an amazing artist who does incredible interior formatting, illustrating, and designing for e-books and paperbacks. Let’s not forget Judy Zweifel of Judy’s’ Proofreading. She does an amazing job of finding the tiniest details that make a book shine.
To my lovely PA, Michelle Slagan. I’m not sure how I ever did this without you. I love you to the moon and back!
Lastly, I am so grateful for my beta readers and the honest feedback they provide me. Thank you for all that you do, Racheal, Kim, Laurel, Michael, Brittany, and Jodie.
Ever since she was a little girl, Aimee Nicole Walker entertained herself with stories that popped into her head. Now she gets paid to tell those stories to other people. She wears many titles—wife, mom, and animal lover are just a few of them. Her absolute favorite title is champion of the happily ever after. Love inspires everything she does, music keeps her sane, and coffee is the magic elixir that fuels her day.
