Sienna came back from her classes, threw her purse on the coffee table and flopped down on the sofa, tired. She looked at the time, saw it was almost eight and sighed happily. Bryan would come in at any moment from now.
Since they got married, they had begun a daily routine. After she came back home, she waited for him in the living room as he usually came back late from his classes. They had dinner together, and then they’d sit and chat, basically just enjoying each other’s company, and then retire to bed together. Today, their routine would be slightly different as she didn’t know if they would be able to sleep after she told him her news.
She glanced around the living room furnished in white and brown. She had chosen white drapes, throws, and a white center rug, while the sofas, coffee table, and other wood furnishings were brown. The two bedrooms in the house were furnished in the same color scheme.
She was deliriously happy, and life with Bryan was better than she imagined it would be. Only one thing had put a damper over her happiness, their happiness. Their money had been running out at an alarming rate. Bryan’s meager chaplain’s income wasn’t enough for their needs. Her savings, used for major expenses like the rent for their apartment, were depleting fast. They had both begun to worry about meeting their daily needs, but now, with the inheritance from her father, they wouldn’t have to worry anymore—ever again. She couldn’t wait to see the look on his face when she told him.
She heard the door open, and her heart soared with joy. She brushed her fingers through her hair and turned to face the door.
He smiled at her as he walked in and said, “How is my favorite person in the whole world doing?” When she told him she was doing great, he walked over to her and kissed her. “I can’t believe I am married to such a beauty,” he whispered in her ear.
As usual, he looked amazing in blue jeans and a plaid shirt. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach, and she giggled. “How were your lectures today?”
He nodded. “Fine.”
She looked him in the eye. “You know how we’ve been worrying about money? About how we are going to survive. Well, we don’t have to worry anymore.”
“How come?” he asked, a bit surprised.
She told him about the will and her long-lost brother, everything. When she finished, he searched her face, a look of wonder on his face, wondering if she was joking. “Sienna, I can’t believe it. Are you serious?”
She nodded.
He got up and paced the living room while she smiled. At last, he came and snatched her up in a huge hug.
She laughed and then said, “We have to find a way to get out of school soon so we can travel together.”
“It’s nearly Christmas. What about then?”
“No, our father wanted us to look for him now. And Trisha soon won’t be allowed to fly.”
“So, we have a new adventure to start and all the money we will ever need.” He whooped, picked her up and spun her around.
She laughed and then planted a kiss on his cheeks when he put her down. She said to him, “When I told you at our wedding that I couldn’t wait to start a brand-new adventure with you, who knew that it would be an actual adventure?”
He chuckled. “I did. I knew that life with you would be like a brand-new adventure every day. The money will allow us to spend time together without ever worrying again about how to pay our bills,” he said to her. “But whether we have lots of money or little, we will always have each other and the Lord.”
She grinned, her heart overflowing.
He kissed her again, a long lingering kiss this time. When he drew back, she asked, “So, are you ready to go on this wild adventure with me and find my long-lost brother?”
He nodded. “I can’t wait,” he said, and then kissed her again.
