he picked up the signed court ordered divorce papers. “Thank you for making our job so much easier Hollie.” I said as we walked towards the door on our way out. To which she replied, “Yeah, whatever!” then slammed the door behind us.

“That was much easier than I expected. I thought that she would show us out as soon as we put that court order in front of her.” I said with a smile. As we got into the planetary vehicle Jim said, “Yeah that almost seemed too easy. I wonder what she has up her sleeve.” A bit surprised I said, “She probably just wanted it to be over and done, but you’re right she may be hiding something. The captain and Senator Sanders will certainly be pleased with our work. Since we are back at the station now let’s go tell Captain Fire the good news!”

The captain’s door was open when we got up to his office. “Come in and have a seat guys. Tell me you have some good news.” Captain Fire said. “Yes we do captain. Mrs. Sanders actually signed the divorce settlement after we helped her to realize that there was no point to continue dragging this case out any longer and that there are no charges to be brought up against the senator.” I said. “The senator will be thrilled to hear that. I will message him right now.” the captain said as he messaged Senator Sanders. “I think it was way too easy getting her to sign those papers and that she still has something up her sleeve captain.” Jim noted. Then Captain Fire looked up and said, “Well I don’t see what other stunts she could pull now that this divorce is final. Oh, I am getting a reply from the senator. He wants to take you both to lunch and is teletransporting here to do so right now. You guys had better be ready to put on your party faces for the senator.”

We went to the teletransporter out in front of the station to meet Senator Sanders. As soon as he came out and saw Jim and I standing there he said, “Are you my guys?” We both nodded our heads. He came up to each of us, shook our hands, and gave us each a hug. “Thank you both so much, I was afraid this was going to drag out for another year. Well where can I take you guys for lunch?” We ended up going to “Patsu’s Diner” for some rice dishes, noodles, and egg rolls.

After we finished I asked the senator, “Will you be staying in town tonight?” “I am going home to see Hollie and ask her when she will be leaving, as well as find out how I may be able to speed up the process.” Senator Sanders said. “Good luck with that senator. I hope you have minimal problems helping to get Hollie moved out of the house.” I said with a smile as we parted company.

While my partner and I were walking back to the station Jim said, “I still think Mrs. Sanders is planning something crazy!” “The senator seemed happy enough and prepared to handle her without too much trouble. I am sure they will have a few problems, but I am happy that we can move on to another case now.” I said as we walked back in to the station. The captain spotted us as we got back and told us to go home for the day and take tomorrow off from work.

I got home before the kids were back from school today. Betty greeted me with a smile and kiss, “How are you honey?” “Pretty good, Jim and I got to complete a case and make a senator happy. I have tomorrow off of work as well. Maybe we can go out and have some fun tomorrow while the kids are at school.” I said with a smile. She came up, gave me another kiss, and whispered in my ear, “Sorry honey I have plans with my friend Mellisa all day tomorrow. So you can just sit back and relax if you’d like, or go out and cut the grass like you said you would.”

The next day after I trimmed the grass with the electromower that instantly disintegrates the tips of grass so there is absolutely no waste, I got a call from the captain. “What was Senator Sanders planning on doing after lunch yesterday?” he asked. I replied, “He told me that he was going back home to see if there was anything he could do to speed up Mrs. Sanders’ move out of his house. Why do you ask we he is at?” Captain Fire said, “He has not showed up to the Senate today and nobody answers the contact lines at his house or cell phone. Come to the station, meet up with Jim, and then take a planetary vehicle over there to hopefully find out what is going on with the senator. I am sorry to cut into your day off, but I want you and Jim to go to the Senator’s house and check it out.”

When I got to the office I met up with Jim who immediately said, “I knew something was going to happen. The way Mrs. Sanders was acting I knew she was up to something.” As we got in to the planetary vehicle I said, “Hopefully it is just a communications problem, Senator Sanders is okay, and the senator or Mrs. Sanders greets us when we get to their house.” “Yeah, but we are here now and there is nobody outside to greet us. Let’s go knock on the door.” Jim said as we got out of the planetary vehicle.

“Look the front door is ajar. Call it in and then we can begin to investigate while back up is on the way.” I said as I gently opened the door. I walked in and yelled, “Is anybody home?” Then Jim came up behind me and said, “Backup is on the way.” “Yeah, let’s look around a bit for evidence.” I said while moving in to the front room, as we spread out in the house. Then I heard Jim with a loud, “Whoa! Come look at this Jack!” I went in to the kitchen quickly where Jim was to see the senator’s dead body. He had been stabbed many times with an ice pick and his head jammed in to the trash disintegrator. It looked liked the senator as it looked like we did know it was the senator’s body having the same clothes on that he was wearing yesterday, we would definitely need finger prints as there would be no picture, but dental identification left due was disintegration of most of his head.

Our back up and a crime scene investigation unit arrived shortly after Jim and I found the senator’s body. Mrs. Sanders was nowhere to be found at the site, inside or outside of the house on the property. Being a government official Senator Sanders did have a teletransporter unit on his property. Jim and I made sure to check where the last teletransport went through that unit. It turned out that it went through to the unit nearest Mrs. Sanders’ sister’s house.

Jim and I immediately went through the teletransporter in an effort to catch up with Hollie Sanders. We knocked on the sisters’ door and were surprised to be greeted by Mrs. Sanders, who said, “Did you find Burney?” “Yes we did! Now you need to come with us immediately for questioning.” I said as I pulled her out of the door. “Okay, I am coming.” she said. We sent her through to the one way transport unit directly in to a holding cell at the station with me. Then Jim went through to the senator’s house to pick up the planetary vehicle on our way back to the station.

When we got to the station the captain stopped us and said, “Thanks for bringing Mrs. Sanders in so quickly after you guys found the senator’s body. Now it is up to the court system to put her away for murder. Although, it shouldn’t be very hard as her fingerprints were all over the ice pick which had to be replicated to initially be created. Her bloody footprints were all over the place, and her blood soaked clothes were also found at the crime scene. She should be going away for a long time.” “Does she need to be interrogated now?” I asked “No the judicial system has taken over now. You guys have done your jobs and now you can have tomorrow off.” the captain said.

I went home for the day, and found out a couple months later that Mrs. Sanders was sentenced to thirty years. She did get lucky by having contracted work release after twenty five years. Since fumans usually live to be 130 years old she is going to have fun doing her time in prison. I hope I don’t ever have to help deal with politicians or their spouse’s problems again.
