I’d been racking my brain, trying to think if there was something that I could have said that day that would have kept him from walking away from me, and I kept coming up empty. I knew had I called the police that we’d still be together, but he didn’t really give me any leeway. Rocco and I had been in a very involved relationship for years. While it had gone south, that didn’t mean that I no longer cared.
Had I thought Rocco would hurt me, I would have gladly called the police. I needed to explain my stance. But I knew I should have probably done that instead of leading him to believe that I would honor his wishes and call the police. I grabbed my smoothie from the table and said, “I’ll see you later, Mr. Harper.”
I couldn’t even respond to what he’d told me. He was the reason why Maverick hadn’t been in a relationship in so long. Being betrayed by family had to be some of the worst hurt ever. The same man that betrayed him happened to be my former professor. Great. I left the café and got in my car. Glancing at my phone, I wanted to call or text Maverick, but he hadn’t been accepting either. I did the one thing I’d been warring in my mind to do for the past week. I headed to his home. The worst that could happen was that he wouldn’t open the door.
As I got out of my car, it felt like my knees were knocking. I was so nervous. Seeing him in the café had stunned me. My heart felt like it was crumbling in my chest as he’d stared at me. His eyes were always my weakness but seeing such emotion in them was destroying me from the inside out. Maverick was so expressive, and I loved that about him. But this expression… this display of emotion was one I could do without. I’d lied to him. I’d hurt him. Going the rest of my life without him would be hard and frankly, I didn’t want to.
I rang the doorbell and prepared to face his glare. After a few moments, I rang it again. I didn’t hear any movement inside and that made me think he hadn’t come home. As I was about to walk away, I heard the locks disengaging. I lowered my head as I fidgeted. When he opened the door, I noticed he didn’t have on shoes. As my eyes slid up his body, I realized he’d answered the door in some gray, cloth shorts and I could clearly see his massive dick print. I was so fucking distracted now. “What are you doing here, Yuri?”
“I… I um… I wanted to apologize. Mav, it’s been so hard not talking to you, being near you. I made a mistake. At the moment, I didn’t see the severity of what I’d done. I see it now. Mr. Harper was my college professor. He just happened to be at Sertino’s as well.” I cleared my throat and stared into his eyes. He’d been drinking. “Can I come in, Maverick?”
He stepped aside and allowed me inside. His dick was hard as hell and it was communicating with my body, making it heat up with desire. When he closed the door, he turned to me and asked, “So what happened? How did your ex leave?”
“He finally accepted that I was done. We both cried. My tears were mainly because I felt sorry for him. He’s so broken and he has no one in this world to depend on. But… I couldn’t put my life on hold for a spoiled, grown-ass man. I hugged him and wished him well. He composed himself and wished me well also. That was it.”
He nodded and walked past me to the kitchen. I watched him lift a glass and down the contents of it. The house seemed so dead inside. There was no music playing and no light shining through the windows. It was just dreary. I walked closer to him as he stood at the countertop staring at me. When I got close, I said, “Maverick, please tell me you forgive me. Please. I miss you so much.”
I stepped closer to grab his hand, but he backed away from me, putting his glass in the dishwasher. At this point I was desperate. I needed him badly. I quickly wrapped my arms around his waist and laid my head on his back. “Maverick. Please,” I said as my heart sank to my feet.
I could feel his pain as I held onto him. He pried my arms from around him and turned to me then grabbed my neck, pushing me back to the island countertop. His grip was firm, but he wasn’t choking me. I was nervous because he’d been drinking and he was angry. I didn’t know him well enough to know that he wouldn’t go too far. He obviously had a temper that I wasn’t aware of. He stood closer to me and I could feel his erection. His other hand slid around my waist, then dipped to my ass. My body begans trembling from anticipation. Bringing his hand back to the front, he slid it down my chest as it heaved slightly, then slid it in my stretch pants.
Did this mean I was forgiven, or would this be a goodbye fuck? I was confused, but I needed to feel him so badly, I was willing to crash and burn with him… let him have my body if only for one night. His fingers slid between my folds, causing me to moan out passionately. He released my neck, then roughly pulled my tank and pants off. Spinning me around, Maverick pulled me in his arms as he gently palmed my breasts, teasing my nipples with minimal contact. When his lips touched my neck, I closed my eyes and arched my back, pushing my ass into his crotch.
Sliding his hand down my stomach, he reached my pussy. Pushing my legs apart with his knee, he penetrated my folds and entered me with two of his fingers. I laid my head back against his shoulder as I bit my bottom lip. Maverick knew just how to satisfy me. Even when he was drunk. He quickly spun me back around to face him. “So you telling me all this shit still mine, Yuri?” he asked as he ran his fingers through my hair.
“Yes,” I all but moaned.
He dropped his shorts and revealed that he wasn’t wearing underwear, then picked me up and went to his bedroom. The moment we entered, he brought me to the bed, lying me on it, then went down between my legs and sucked the fuck out of my clit. God, I’d missed this. I never knew that orgasms could feel so good. I didn’t know what the hell was going on before but when I climaxed with Maverick, it was on a whole ’notha level.
As I leaked my creamy goodness on him, he stood from his knees and pushed his dick in me. Raw. My mind was racing, and I knew he could tell. “What’s the matter? I’ll get a condom in just a minute, but I needed to feel this shit wrap around me without the barrier. It feels just as good as I thought it would. Fuuuck!”
I lifted my hips, rolling them into him, hoping he didn’t cum prematurely. Drunk men usually couldn’t prolong their nut. Mav’s eyes were slightly red, and he’d stumbled a couple of times since I’d been here. My moans were filled with desire and I needed him more than I ever thought I would. It was like his rod of perfection was giving me life and there was no way I would let him walk away from me so easily again. He pulled out of me and said, “Shit!”
As I stared at him, I could tell he was warring with something in his mind. He was just standing there, his eyes focused on my body. “Maverick… what are you thinking?”
He looked away from me and got a condom from his nightstand drawer, refusing to answer my question. After rolling it on, he turned me over and joined me in the bed once again, entering me from the back. His mannerisms confused me, but his dick inside of me was a straight shooter. It said just what it wanted to, no hesitation or theatrics and I was falling for it. Hard. I’d never begged a man the way I’d begged Maverick tonight. I was addicted to his aura and I wanted to bask in it at all times.
He smacked my ass as he pounded my pussy, expertly winding the dick inside of me, just how I needed it. My nipples were grazing the bed and that was proving to turn me on even more. The stimulation of it all produced an earth-shattering orgasm that took control of my extremities. I fell flat to the bed and Maverick didn’t waste any time adjusting. “Oh my God! Maverick! Shit!”
He leaned over me as he continued to stroke me slowly and said, “Yuri, fuck!”
I arched my back, giving him greater access to what we both needed. The way his dick greeted my cervix caused the tears to stream down my face. This man was everything and I wanted to believe that he thought the same about me. “Maverick, baby, I’m falling so hard.”
His movements slowed even more so as he slid his hand to the front of my neck and squeezed. “You falling for the dick, Yuri.”
“No. I fell for the dick immediately. I’m falling for you, Mav. I don’t
wanna live without you.”
He slowly pulled out of me and laid to my side, then prompted me to get on top of him. When I did, he said, “Tell me again. Look into my eyes and say it again.”
“I’m falling for you, Mav,” I said as I slid down his dick. “I’m falling so hard for you, daddy.” I rolled my hips as he moaned softly, then brought my palms to his chest. “You’re taking my heart, baby, and giving it life again.”
He gripped my hips as I slid up and down his dick, excreting the lube he loved. His eyes fell from mine to watch the action below. When he looked back up at me, he said, “I’m falling for you, too. I’ve been a miserable drunk without you. The first day I saw you, a little over a month ago, I knew you would have the power to drive me insane.”
His eyes closed as I rolled my hips, stroking him slowly. Suddenly, he flipped me over to my side and reentered me, fucking me slow. Lifting my leg, he kissed behind my knee and dug me out until I was cumming all over the place for the third time. He wasn’t far behind. When he nutted, he fell to his side and within seconds, he was asleep. I chuckled, then pulled the condom off his dick. After throwing it away, I stared at him and smiled. To know he was just as miserable without me warmed my heart.
I slid in bed next to him and snuggled up to him, resting my head against his back. Listening to him breathe… lightly snoring lulled me right to sleep with him.
“Yuri. Wake up.”
My eyes opened slowly, and I could tell that it was the early hours of the morning. I wasn’t sure what was going on. Allowing my eyes time to adjust, I then looked at the clock to see it was five a.m. Why was he waking me up at this ungodly hour? Sitting up in the bed, I stared at him as he stared at me. He looked saddened, maybe even slightly angry. “You have to get up and get dressed. I have a family emergency.”
I quickly got up, not knowing why he seemed so cold. While I got dressed, I asked, “Do you want me to go with you?”
His eyebrows rose slightly. “Don’t you have to work?”
“I do, but I can cancel my day. I want to be whatever you need me to be. What’s going on?”
“My dad had a heart attack. They are in Lafayette, Louisiana, thank God. I can drive there. Last week, they were in Atlanta.”
“Okay. Let me freshen up.”
I ran to the bathroom and got cleaned up. My spare toothbrush was still there in the holder, so I was able to brush, thankfully. Within five minutes, I was ready to go. When I came out, I could hear Maverick in the kitchen, so I grabbed my purse and joined him. “I’m ready,” I stated.
He hesitantly proceeded to the door, then turned to me and asked, “You think it’s a good idea for you to come with me? I mean, you would be meeting my parents. I wanna make sure this is real before that happens.”
My eyebrows lifted slightly. “Maverick, I wasn’t drunk last night. I meant everything I said. Did you?”
“I wasn’t the one that fucked up, though. I wasn’t sending mixed signals, Yuri.”
My heart dropped slightly. “Maverick. Don’t do this. Let’s get to Lafayette to see about your dad. I expressed my intimate feelings about you to you. I hate that there was a lack of communication between us about Rocco. But everything I’ve ever told you was the truth. You’re all I want, Mav. Please, let’s not do this.”
He glanced at me then at the floor, then back at me. “You know what, Mav? It’s okay. I won’t go. Be careful.”
I walked past him and out the door, my heart in pieces. What was going on? Why couldn’t we just move on? “Yuri?”
I turned to him, waiting for him to tell me to be careful and we’d talk when he got back, but instead, he said, “Come with me.”
I shook my head. “It’s okay, Maverick. The ride will be uncomfortable and awkward now. You already have your dad to think about.”
“I want you with me. I’m sorry for my hesitancy and doubt. Please come with me.”
He walked away to his car and opened the passenger door, then stared at me with puppy dog eyes. Taking a deep breath, I locked my car and headed to his. I hoped we could talk and really get past this during the hour and a half drive.
Chapter Twelve
Maverick
“Being soft-hearted wasn’t a good thing this time. Once upon a time, I loved Rocco. He was great at first. The real problems didn’t start until we moved in together and he started treating me like his maid with benefits. He became really insecure. I’d had a stalker, but he swore I had slept with the man. But… I said all that to try to get you to see things from my perspective. I’m sorry.”
I took a deep breath as I drove. We were having a much-needed conversation about what went wrong. I was shocked as hell to see her show up at my house. After seeing her with Cedric at Sertino’s, I went home and got tore the fuck up. So, when she rang the doorbell, I was in bed in only my shorts, slobbering on the pillow. It was a miracle I was able to even make it to the door. My drunken state was no match for the pain I felt when I opened the door and saw Yuri. I didn’t want to believe she’d moved on, but that was where I was mentally.
Thankfully, she confirmed immediately who Cedric was to her. It was like déjà vu for me, except we weren’t in a bedroom. Had she been talking to Cedric in that manner, we wouldn’t have been here. I wouldn’t have been able to deal with that kind of shit again. Although, I knew neither of them knew who the other was, it was just too coincidental. After drinking, my mind was playing all kinds of fucked up scenarios of what could have been going on between them and how they could have met.
Being on the road with her this way was bittersweet. While I didn’t mind ever being close to her, the real reason why we were on the road, to begin with, plagued me. My dad had always been healthy. For him to have a heart attack, there were some issues that they hadn’t disclosed to me. Either that or they didn’t know, either. I was almost sure he knew, though. He went to his checkups faithfully, or at least he told me he did. So, this news had me baffled.
Glancing at Yuri, I swallowed hard. “I was upset about you not calling the cops, but I was more upset that you led me to believe you had. I haven’t had a girlfriend in a long time. The last woman I was in love with ended in disaster. But because of how strongly I felt for you, I had to let my guard down. I can have a temper and I’m sorry for losing it on your ex. I’m sorry for not hearing you out, but it was best that I left when I did. I wish you would have given me that explanation before. I would have made sure I was there with you. I would have taken off work that day.”
I grabbed her hand and brought it to my lips, kissing it. “We have to keep the lines of communication open, Yuri. I want this to work because I feel like we’re meant to be, but we can’t let something as simple as that destroy us. I understand your feelings for your ex. I’m glad that he understands just how serious you are now.”
“Yeah, me too. I get it, though. And I promise we’ll talk about things. I want things to work between us as well. I’m falling so deeply for you, it’s insane. I mean, insane that it’s happening so quickly. I’ve never begged a man for a thing… until you.”
I gave her a one-cheeked smile. I was beyond happy that we could work through our issues like adults… but that was thanks to her. Had she not shown up at my house, I would be making this trip alone. After riding in silence for a moment, I said, “So… you’ll get to meet my parents. We’re not close like you are with your mom. It’s not because I didn’t have a good upbringing or anything deep like that. We just never have been as close. Everyone always did their own thing. I really don’t know how to explain it. It’s kind of weird, but it’s the only way I knew how to function. They aren’t really touchy-feely with people they don’t know, no matter the connection. So, don’t expect a hug or even a handshake. They are friendly, though.”
“I would have never guessed that with as affectionate as you are.”
“I’m only that way with you.”
She smiled and the car became quiet once again until I turned into the parking lot o
f a donut shop a few miles outside of Lafayette. The smile that appeared on her face made me smile as well. “I figured you were hungry because my stomach is growling. Tell me what you want.”
She smiled big and rattled off quite a bit of food, then giggled. I shook my head slowly, then went inside, hoping to remember everything she’d said to get. She needed to cancel her day, which was why she’d stayed in the car. She wanted to wait until it was a little later in the morning. It was almost six-thirty, so hopefully, she would be able to get through to somebody. She said she would also personally call her clients.
When I got back to the car, she practically snatched the bags out of my hand, going straight for the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. After sitting my coffee and her orange juice in the cup holders, I put on my seatbelt while she rummaged through the other bags. “You look like a damn raccoon, digging through everything. I hope all this shit you ordered don’t catch up with you later. It would be a shame for you to stink up my dad’s bathroom.”
She turned red as hell as I laughed. We finally got the food situated and I headed to Lafayette General to check on my dad.
“So what are the doctors saying?” I asked immediately after speaking to my mother in the hallway.
“He’s doing okay and should be fine. They had to put a stint in one of his arteries. Blockage is what caused the heart attack. I’m sorry… hello,” my mother said to Yuri.
“Hi.”
“I’m sorry, Mom. This is my girlfriend, Yuri. Yuri, this is my mother, Beverly.”
“Girlfriend? Wow. It’s nice to meet you, Yuri. That’s a pretty name.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Pierce.”
“Oh no, baby. Call me Beverly. I don’t do that Mrs. Pierce thing.”
