  Scottie made a rude noise indicating that his sister’s remark had upset his stomach.

  “Scottie! That’s enough,” Ophelia scolded. “You’re terribly quiet, Brynn. What ever is your mind conjuring now?”

  “Oh nothing. I was just thinking what a nice family they seem to be,” Brynn responded. She didn’t add, however, that she had also been thinking about the ruggedly handsome face that had first appeared before her in the general store earlier that afternoon.
