They huddled in the living room, removing their wet clothing. Teall fetched towels and Cam went to the kitchen to light the fire.

Pavel brought her a dry dress and helped her slide it over her head. Smoothing the fabric over her stomach, he bent down and whispered, “We can’t have you three getting sick.”

She placed her hand over his as it rubbed her rounded belly. “Water can’t hurt selkies.”

“True.” He kissed her prominent bump.

“I think even half-human selkies wouldn’t get sick. It’s still Prism. It’s still the land of magic,” Cam pointed out.

Pavel didn’t reply, but Annika watched his eyes soften. With twins on the way, they could only guess the parentage. There were no documented cases of a selkie human couple, given that in order to have children, selkies had to essentially become human. Offspring of such couples didn’t have a selkie side.

But Iona had visited and announced that Pavel’s assumption was correct. Being on Prism, and having a bond to the land through her, circumvented the usual laws against procreation. Pavel could have children with Annika, and they would be fae.

“It doesn’t matter, of course,” Pavel said. “No matter what, they’re our children.”

“Agreed.” Teall placed a soft towel over Annika’s neck and squeezed it at the ends of her hair. He kissed her forehead and whispered, “And our children will be amazing.”

Beyond the window, the rain poured down, growing heavy as the sky grew dark. During her brief time on the human world, she’d witnessed such a storm regarded as a horrible thing. A nightmare. A nuisance.

But it was nothing short of a blessing for Prism. On top of that, it was a sign of things to come and proof that change was inevitable.

She’d spent most of her life believing that in order to change herself, change her fate, she’d have to abandon her past. Now she realized that fate was as up in the air as anything else.

Love, somehow, could conquer all and change the very tides of the world.
