“Let’s get this guy into the barn,” I said, and the allosaurus gave a pathetic roar as it limped far behind us.
I sped around to the front of the barn as two more gunshots went off in the distance, but then I hit the brakes when I was met with a pair of yellow eyes in the darkness.
Whatever this guy was, he let out a pissed off roar, my hair blew back from my skull as his rank breath whooshed over me.
“Fuck!” I yelled.
Then I swerved my bike back around just as a second allosaurus lunged out of the dim barn. My heart leapt into my throat at the sudden arrival, and I only narrowly missed the snap of its jaws.
“Oh, shit!” Kat shouted as her Jeep caught up with me.
The second allosaurus was clearly in better spirits than its herd mate, and it charged at me with powerful back legs and a hungry growl.
“You take the injured one!” I yelled as I sped away from the farmhouse. “I’m taking this fucker to the woods.”
“Be careful!” Kat shouted, and she shredded the grassy hillside as she took a hard turn around.
I raced past the farmhouse and made my way toward the woodland, and I could see the dsungaripterus still flying low over the treetops. Hae-won’s shots had clearly caused a significant amount of damage, though, and it flew lopsided as it snapped its beak into the treetops and sent leaves and bark scattering into the air.
The dino behind me was fast, and he had to be at least thirty feet long from head to tail. These guys had proven to be both speedy and smart in the past, but I knew I would be able to weave through the trees faster than it could.
I sped over the road, and into the shelter of the woodlands. The dino raced behind me, and I could hear Hae-won’s bike nearby as I weaved my way around large oak trees and bushes.
I noticed as I drove that there were shit loads of fox holes, and I slowed down just enough to avoid two larger ones right in my path. Then there was a heavy stumble behind me, and I glanced in my mirror to see the dino had put a foot right into a hole in the ground.
“Sucker.” I grinned as I slowed and turned around to face the trapped dino.
The allosaurus roared as it clumsily wrestled to take its foot out of the deep pit, and the ground seemed to heave up from the strength of its efforts.
I already had my bike stopped and my rifle pulled around from my back, though, and I aimed right between the eyes.
Then I took my shot, and the dino’s skull cracked and spurted blood. Another shot made the beast go rigid, and it wheezed and gurgled before it slumped forward onto the dirt. Its trapped leg twitched for a moment before the beast fell still, and I shouldered my weapon once more.
I could still hear the heavy flap of the flying dino, and I tore back through the woods to try and get eyes on both my girls. As I neared the tree line, I saw Kat’s Jeep barreling down from the barn toward the road.
Her tire tracks ranged all over the hillside, but I was surprised to see she didn’t have an injured allosaurus behind her anymore. The creature running behind the soldier’s car wasn’t injured at all, and it looked almost identical to the picture Joey had shown me in his book.
The tarbosaurus was smaller than a t-rex but had a similar build, with powerful back legs and tiny forearms. It was a deep-brown color and had a reddish pattern across its midriff, and its huge jaw let out a snarl as it tore after Kat. I could see the tarbosaurus already had blood dripping from the side of its neck, but even though it was hurt, it still galloped along the hillside without issue.
The Jeep wouldn’t be able to maneuver through the trees easily, so I knew Kat would have to keep to the road for this one, so I immediately switched up my path and started to drive further along the roadside away from the pair.
As soon as I was in a decent position, I pulled behind a huge oak and came to a stop, and I quickly grabbed the radio from my belt.
“Kat, I’m in position to take out your dino!” I hollered into the device. “Bring it straight down the road in the woods, and I’ll start shooting as he comes by, over!”
“Okay!” Kat shouted through the radio. “It looks like Hae-won’s dino is getting weaker! I’ve got a visual from here, and he’s got multiple bullet wounds in his wings! He’s off balance and slowing down up there! Over.”
“Good,” I muttered to myself, and I hitched the radio back on my belt before I drew my rifle.
I had a clear line of sight to the road, but I could also hear the distant flapping of the flying dino, and it kept letting out pained squawks. I caught the sound of limbs breaking away, too, and when I looked further down the road, I saw one of its bloody wings breaking through the trees.
The flying dino had finally begun to crash down into the canopy.
Then the Jeep came racing down the road toward me, and the tarbosaurus behind it let out a roar. I hoped that it hadn’t just put out a distress call to the rest of its mismatched herd, but I steadied my aim and got ready to shoot.
Just as the Jeep sped past my hiding spot, there was a massive explosion deeper in the woods, and I jumped out of my skin.
Hae-won set off a grenade.
The remains of the flying dino exploded through the woods and onto the road below, and Hae-won’s bike was already jetting back toward us.
Unfortunately, the incoming tarbosaurus startled from the explosion, and the massive dino tripped over itself with a furious roar.
“Look out, Jason!” Hae-won screamed, and I looked up to see the huge dino topple over as its shadow engulfed me.
Chapter 13
My rifle went flying as I wrenched at the throttle, and my bike shook as I narrowly missed the snapping jaws of the tarbosaurus.
“Holy shit!” I yelped as the skull of the dino smacked off the tarmac, and I looked back as I braked.
It looked like the beast had knocked itself out from the fall, and its dark eyes rolled back in its head while it twitched belly up in the middle of the road.
“Jason!” Hae-won yelled as she reached me. “Are you okay?”
“I think so,” I gasped as my heartbeat pounded loudly in my ears. “Holy shit, that was close.”
I stared at the downed dino twitching, and Kat’s Jeep came to a screeching stop on the road. Then she climbed out with a pale face, but I waved to her so she’d know everything was fine.
“Is it out?” the soldier asked.
“Still alive, but I think it's banged its head pretty bad,” I replied. “Looks like we’ve messed up a good few members of that creepy ass herd, too.”
“Let’s finish this fucker off,” Kat said.
I nodded as the soldier grabbed my rifle from the forest floor, and she handed it off to me as I dismounted. Then I aimed my rifle right at the tarbosaurus’ ear cavity, and I pulled the trigger twice.
The bullets lodged right into the beast's brain, one after another, and it stopped twitching at once.
I swung my rifle back over my shoulder while Kat and Hae-won nodded their approval, but then I glanced at my Korean lover.
“Grenade?” I asked with a grin.
“It was stuck up in the trees, anyways,” Hae-won chuckled. “I had the grenade already loaded, and I thought I would put it out of its misery.”
“Well, you pretty much got us two dinos with one shot,” I said.
“Totally meant to do that,” the Korean laughed.
I grinned as I got back on my bike, and as soon as Kat was in her Jeep, we drove off down the road, and my two gorgeous girls raced alongside me. The air was crisp, and once we left the woods, I saw the clouds were gray. The sun still warmed my face as we drove along the coast, and I admired the scenery as we made our way toward the center of Ravenscar.
“This place is gorgeous,” Kat hollered as the pretty soldier looked up at the emerald hills. “I mean, if you ignore all the giant prehistoric animals that want to eat us.”
“They just add to the character,” I laughed. “But, yeah, I wouldn’t mind holeing up here for a while.”
“E
specially if we get to live in a fancy hotel,” Hae-won added. “If we get rid of all of the dinos, this could be a dream place to live. It looks like a resort.”
I smiled at the gorgeous Korean, and I couldn’t help imagining what it would be like to live somewhere so beautiful with my three lovers. We’d have access to supplies and the luxury of all the five-star hotel amenities. I knew nothing could ever be permanent with this new dino world, but even just a few weeks at Raven Hall would be a reset we all needed.
“Can you believe we actually found Becka’s mum?” Kat asked as she ran a hand through her curls. “I hoped we would eventually, but holy shit, it feels good to have actually achieved something in all this.”
“Debbie is awesome,” Hae-won laughed. “I can see where Becka gets her confidence.”
“Oh, yeah.” I smiled. “I have no doubt Debbie will be the last one standing out of all of us. Especially with her makeshift weapons.”
“All this time we’ve been pissing about with guns,” Kat said. “Why didn’t we think of a giant stick with knives attached to the top?”
“So foolish,” Hae-won agreed with a completely straight face. “Now we know better.”
Watching the two beautiful girls joke as we soared through the countryside was just what I needed. Kat’s lopsided grin and Hae-won’s adorable laugh made the ride even more beautiful, and I knew our stay in Raven Hall would be incredible, however long we decided to remain there.
Our trip to the center of town was peaceful after the initial fight, and we didn’t encounter any more dinos on our way. The rolling hills and fields were clear, and the only signs of dinosaurs nearby were a few scattered animal remains.
“Here we go,” Hae-won said as we passed a few little houses, and we arrived in what seemed to be a small town with only a few shops.
There was a pub with a beer garden, and the wooden tables outside had space heaters and standing umbrellas beside them. We slowed right down as we passed a florist and a post office, and both looked untouched. It actually seemed like nobody had looted any of the local businesses here, and I was relieved to see it.
“Small town folk clearly haven’t gone full-apocalyptic-warrior yet,” Kat observed as she looked at the store fronts. “I can’t remember when I last saw a shop window intact.”
“Very respectful of them,” Hae-won agreed. “Hopefully, it stays this way, and they don’t get any out-of-town visitors.”
We reached the small supermarket and parked at the front entrance. It had the shutters down on the windows, and the little sign on the glass door told us that it was closed.
I checked over my shoulder, but the roads and sky seemed clear of any dinos, so I climbed onto the sidewalk. Hae-won flicked her long, raven-black hair over her shoulder as she parked her bike beside mine, and Kat adjusted the shark on her dashboard before she leapt out.
Then I pulled the keys Mikey had given me from my jacket and walked over to the shop door.
“Being able to lock ourselves in feels like a luxury,” Kat said as I turned the key and pushed the door open. “We can browse until our hearts are content.”
“We sure can.” I grinned as I stepped inside. “Ladies, let’s go on a shopping spree.”
“Ohhh,” Hae-won cooed. “I haven’t been shopping in so long, this is exciting.”
I flicked the switch on the wall, and the fluorescent lights above us flickered on to illuminate the store. I whistled as I took in the sight of a fully stocked shop floor, all the shelves were still neatly organized, and the staff door at the back was closed.
Holy shit. It was beautiful.
“Oh, my god,” Kat gasped as she looked transfixed over the aisles. “I don’t even know where to start.”
“Mikey said all the long-life supplies are in the stockroom,” I reminded the pair. “But I think we should browse around a bit before we grab the essentials.”
“Why does this turn me on?” Kat asked as she slowly walked toward the candy shelf. “It's all so neat and fully-stocked. I’m like… totally wet right now.”
“Me, too,” Hae-won laughed.
“And it's all for us.” I grinned as I gave the pretty soldier a smack on the ass. “Go crazy, ladies, you’ve earned a treat.”
“The fridge section probably will not smell too nice,” Hae-won said as she browsed. “I wouldn’t want to drink the milk that’s there.”
“It’s probably cheese by now,” I laughed as I strode over to the chips. “Oh, god, I haven’t had junk food in forever.”
I grabbed a packet of Quavers, tore it open, and shoved a handful of cheese-flavored chips into my mouth.
“Oh, yeah,” I mumbled. “These used to fuel my late-night study sessions.”
I scanned the shelf and didn’t even know what to grab next. I felt like a kid at Christmas with all of the snack options I could want.
“Do you miss American snacks?” Hae-won asked as she cracked open a can of soda. “I tried twinkies once, they were pretty nice.”
“Sometimes.” I shrugged. “But I’ve gotten pretty used to the English stuff, and I think I prefer the taste of British chocolate, anyway.”
“I have to thank America for my favorite, though,” Kat said as she held a pack of peanut-butter cups high. “These little things are the greatest gift your country has given us. I mean apart from you, obviously, and the whole ‘World War Two,’ thing.”
I laughed as the curly-haired soldier opened the candy packet and sniffed it excitedly before she stuffed the snack in her mouth. Then I wandered over to the drink cabinet and grabbed a four pack of Red Bull.
“These are coming with me,” I said. “A little boost for dino fighting.”
Hae-won picked up a plastic crate that was next to the fridge and placed it down beside me.
“Let’s load this up,” she said. “And we should get Becka a special treat. I know she’s sad to miss out on the action.”
“I don’t know her too well, yet,” Kat mumbled through a mouthful of peanut-butter cups. “But I’m guessing she’s a beer and chocolate kind of girl?”
“I would say so.” I grinned. “I like your thinking, I hadn’t even thought about the drinks fridge.”
Kat smiled and headed to the back of the shop, and she slid open the chilled section to grab some bottles of alcohol. Then she returned with two six packs of Budweiser along with a liter bottle of rum.
“I hope you have your ID, young lady,” I said with a half-grin as she started to pack the crate.
“Ha,” Kat laughed. “I feel like we should fill this entire thing with booze. Those folks at the Hall could do with a bit of a party after being terrorized by that herd day and night.”
“Then let’s do it,” Hae-won giggled as she ran to the drinks cabinet, and the petite Korean grabbed three bottles of vodka along with a bottle of prosecco to pile into the crate. “We can take many crates back whenever we need to. This one is just for alcohol.”
“We can’t forget Debbie’s wine,” Kat pointed out on her way back to the fridge, and she loaded her arms with a half-dozen bottles of chardonnay. The soldier packed the bottles neatly in the crate, and then she straightened up to admire the selection.
“Glad we have our priorities straight.” I nodded. “Are you girls trying to get me drunk?”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Hae-won winked. “Why on Earth would we do such a thing?”
“So you can have your wicked way with me.” I grabbed Hae-won by the waist, and she squealed. Then I leaned down and kissed her giggling lips, and she hungrily grabbed the back of my head as she stood on her tiptoes to reach me.
“Get a room,” Kat chuckled. “And then invite me in, please.”
“Oh, hell yeah,” I groaned as Hae-won unraveled herself from me. “That’s what I need tonight. Some nice drinks, some good food, and a whole hotel room to ourselves.”
“I hope there’s a hot tub, and those really plush carpets,” Kat said as she grabbed another crate from behind the counter. “And
a huge bed. I think I might sleep for a week if I can lie down on a comfy bed.”
“Yeah, I hope you don’t mind sharing your bed with all three of us, Jason.” Hae-won said and trotted up to me.
“I think I'll manage,” I murmured, and I grabbed the gorgeous Korean’s perfect ass to make her squeal again. “Come on, let’s get our supplies packed up so I can get you both in that hotel bed as soon as possible.”
“Yes, sir,” Kat purred, and the beautiful soldier sent me a smoldering glance.
“Mmm…” Hae-won moaned with an approving nod. “I like that. Bring that to bed with us tonight. I like hearing a corporal call Jason ‘sir.’”
“I like it, too,” I muttered.
The Corporal seemed to be in a very good mood because she sauntered past me with a soft and sassy “hmm,” and she trailed her fingertips across my chest and down my arm as she went. Then I swiveled my head around and watched her tight camo pants stroll off toward the staff door, and I practically had to scoop my jaw up off the floor to follow after.
“Those glutes,” Hae-won whistled.
“Unbelievable,” I agreed. “You should see her without the pants on.”
“She’s so cushy, but firm, and just so luscious back there,” the Korean whispered.
“Yes, I’m all of those things,” Kat sighed up ahead, and the two of us burst out laughing.
The three of us snickered while we made our way to the staff door, and we opened it to find a room that was both a stock room and a break room. There was a table and two wooden chairs beside a standing fridge and small kitchen space, and a flatscreen TV was mounted on the wall.
I couldn’t help but cheer when I noticed the PlayStation underneath.
“We have to take this back,” I decided as I bent down and grabbed the console and controllers. “It’s been too long since I pretended to shoot people. Doing it in real life just isn’t as relaxing, somehow.”
“The people back at the Hall are going to love us,” Kat said as she pulled tins of food from the shelves. “We come back with a Jeep full of food, booze, and entertainment.”
