I breathed a sigh of relief. “Well, I’m glad to see you looking so much better.”
He grinned. “Yeah, I’m all about the drama these days it seems. Stop my own wedding, collapse at a woman’s feet. I think I’d quite like a quiet life for a bit now.”
I laughed. “You and me both. God, you gave me a fright. I thought you might have done something crazy.”
His eyes widened. “Seriously? You thought I’d tried to kill myself?”
I shrugged.
“Guess, it’s not too much of a presumption given our recent circumstances, but no that’s not the crazy thing I’ve done…”
“Oh yeah?”
He patted the bed next to him. There was a chair nearby, so I pulled that up instead.
“I know it seems sudden, but I met someone on vacation. She’s from New York, and well, there was something about her and we’re going to see each other again. I know it’s soon, so I wanted to tell you about it face-to-face.”
I smiled and standing up I hugged him. He hugged me back.
“You’ve always been such a good man. It’s a shame we weren’t enough for each other, but I really hope you have found your someone, Kade.”
“So you’re totally okay about it?”
“I’m totally okay about it, and I might have met someone too. We haven’t actually been on a date yet, but it’s looking promising.”
“I wish you all the best in life, Sherry, and I don’t regret a moment of the time we spent together. There’ll always be a piece of you in here.” He tapped his heart.
I tapped mine back. “And here for you too.”
“When I’m better we’ll need to sort out our joint accounts and a few other things.”
“You just let me know when you’re up to it.” I kissed his cheek. “Now rest, Kade. You need to get better so you can take that woman out on a hot date.”
And then I left his room, and we smiled at each other until I’d gone out of view.
TY
I’d recognized the address when the call came in and I panicked thinking that something had happened to Sherry until they said it was an unconscious male, and then I’d panicked again thinking he’d harmed himself.
Guilt wracked my body as I tended to the unconscious man at my feet while I worried more about the woman at the side of him.
Because I loved her.
With all my heart and soul.
Had since the moment I’d first set eyes on her.
When she belonged to someone else and I’d never thought for one moment that she could ever actually be mine.
But right at that moment I knew that if she said her place was back there with Kade. If the circumstances meant she felt her place was right at his side, I would let her go without hesitation.
I loved her that much.
I’d weather a broken heart to give her whatever she wanted.
All week she’d slept in my king-sized bed, just asking me to hold her close, so that’s what I’d done. I knew there was unfinished business, mixed with concern, worry, and guilt in her mind. All I could do was hold her and let her know I was there if she needed me. Sometimes, she’d move into her own room and spend hours in there alone and I left her to do whatever she needed to do.
Then he asked to see her, and I waited at home wondering if this was our curtain call.
The door opened and Sherry came through. She looked at me and smiled.
“Hey, handsome.”
Her face looked younger, as the worry from the last few days had left her features.
“How was Kade?”
“Kade was good. He’s recovering well, and… he met someone.” She grinned. “Is it strange I’m happy he met someone, when it’s only two weeks since our own relationship ended?”
“No. Your circumstances are unusual, but I guess you were both meant for someone else.” I winked.
She stepped closer, “Oh yeah? I guess I’d better go and find my someone then.” She pretended to turn toward the door, but I pulled her back until we were chest to chest.
“I know you were in a relationship a long time. I’m in no rush, Sherry. We can get to know each other slowly.”
“Nah, I’ve done the slow thing. It didn’t work out so well for me.” She started to strip off her clothes. “I think I’ll throw all caution to the wind and just go for it, because the crazy thing is, I feel like I’m falling in love with you, Ty.”
I brushed my lips against hers. “Well, that’s good, because I think I already fell in love with you.”
She grinned against my lips.
“Then let’s see where this goes.”
I hoisted her over my shoulder and slapped the cheeks of her ass. “Well, right now, babe; that’s our bedroom.”
I walked her toward the main bedroom. Looked like we’d be redecorating again.
And that guest room could become a nursery in time…
SHERRY
South Padre Beach, Texas – eight months later
Drunk on gin and happiness, I walked down the beach, my toes digging into the warm sand beneath my feet.
Suddenly, I was whisked up in the air as someone lifted me and ran with me down the beach. When my feet were returned to the sand, I turned around and smiled at my new husband.
“Is your life complete now?” He asked me. “Now you’ve once again been whisked off your feet on Spring Break, but this time you also go home with the love of your life?”
“Hmm, well I think first, I’d like to see how good you are at drinking out of my belly button, and how good you are at kissing.”
“Well, wife.” Ty leaned in closer to me. “I think for both of those things we’d better get back to our room because I don’t intend to just drink out of your bellybutton… and I don’t intend to just kiss your mouth…”
My insides fizzed and my bikini panties went damp.
And my husband scooped me up, and over his shoulders, took me to our room and did all the things he’d promised and more.
Casey and Jarrod
Had a large church wedding on their third anniversary. The birth of Drew followed nine months later. Casey is looking to open her second branch of HappBEANness.
Audrina and Tom
Are now engaged and have adopted another cat. Currently Hems isn’t very impressed at sharing his space with either Tom or the new feline Downey. Fish treats help.
Ella and Finn
Ella did walk down the aisle to Finn. She was dressed in a beautiful gown secretly designed and made by best friend, Jodi.
Their babies Taylor and Grace were born a few months later.
Finn’s first novel sold well, and he held his book launch in Dante’s bookstore. He’s currently writing his second novel.
Jodi and Alexander
Being a billionaire, Alexander proposed at a charity dinner where he bought Jodi a honeymoon on Necker Island for an undisclosed sum via closed bids. The charity was extremely pleased. Jodi still can’t believe she went there. Mr. & Mrs. Green still get into the staff lift on the anniversary of their first meeting and stop it for several hours… the staff have learned to turn a blind eye seeing as they have the best boss ever.
Alexander jnr is now three months old.
Tasha, Seth, and Shane
Continue their relationship. Alex still hasn’t got over the shock that the girl he basically thought of as a younger sister has two lovers at the same time. Tasha regularly takes vacation time to accompany the twins on their photo shoots and her boss still wears black when she leaves him.
Riley and Dante
Shortly after the birth of Dylan Dante Duchovny, Riley found herself pregnant again with daughter Emelie. Dante decided he’d settle for no less than soccer team numbers. He asked his brother to come work at the bookstore as his wife was knee deep in nappies. Riley told him when she’d recovered from the birth of their next child, he was staying at home while she went to work at the bookstore. Dante just grinned the grin that Riley blamed for getting her pregnant
in the first place. She’s currently expecting their third.
Grace Graham continues to matchmake people around the globe and her book became a New York Times bestseller. She added Sherry and Ty’s story to her website, after they got in touch thanking her for her assistance.
Harlow and Fergus McDermott still tour the world while Blackthorn are on their latest stadium tour. They pop back to see friends and relatives in Dublin and New York when they can. Their baby son, Niall, luckily loves travelling, and the whole band love him.
