Fighting for What’s His: A Warrior Fight Club Novel Page 21

And just like that, Billy was hard against her ass.

“Anything, huh?” He kissed her and rocked his hips against her.

“Mmhmm,” she said, smiling into his kiss.

“Grab a condom, Shayna. I need in you.” He watched as she did, and then as she tore the wrapper. “Touch yourself,” he said as he took the condom. And Jesus if she wasn’t something to see. Her right hand slid down her stomach until his fingers circled her clit.

Her lips pushed into a pout. “Hurts my arm too much.”

“Aw, baby.” He nuzzled her cheek. “Don’t you worry about it. I’ll get you off. Want my hand or my mouth?”

Shay’s cheeks went the prettiest shade of pink, and it made him chuckle. “I want us to lay just like this,” she said. “So, hand?”

He gave his fingers a good lick, loving how her eyes tracked the movement. Just…loving her. So damn much. And then he was touching her, teasing her, circling her clit and eating up every little moan she made.

“Spread your legs, Shayna.” When she did, he slid his hand lower until he could penetrate her with one finger, then two. “So wet for me. Gonna feel so good.”

Lust-drunk eyes peered up at him. “Fuck me while you rub me,” she breathed.

“Damn, genius really does come out of your mouth,” he said, adjusting their position until he was lined up just right.

Her chuckle turned into a moan as he filled her in one long, slow, wet stroke.

“There it is. Fuck, there is it.” He gripped her hips and closed his eyes against the goodness of this feeling.

Not just the sex, though that was fantastic. The feeling of belonging to someone—and something—bigger than himself. It’d been so damn long.

And then Billy started to move, decadently lazy ins and outs meant to drive them both crazy. His fingers returned to her clit, and he kissed her ear. “Love you so fucking much, Shay.”

“Oh, God, Billy. I feel so full this way.”

Jesus, this woman’s mouth. He kissed her shoulder and fucked her good and deep. “That’s it. You just concentrate on how it feels.” He moved his fingers faster, harder, zeroing in on her clit and offering her no mercy.

Finally, her hips jerked. “Billy. Billy…” Her orgasm wracked through her, squeezing his dick so good that his own orgasm was suddenly urgent as fuck.

“Roll onto your stomach, baby,” he rasped, following her as she moved. Until he was covering her head to toe. Every soft thing about her cradling every hard thing about him. Body and soul.

“Love you under me. Taking me. Taking me so damn good.” His hips moved faster, the sound of their meeting skin and harsh breaths in the air.

  “This feels insane,” she whimpered.

  He nodded. “So fucking tight.”

  “Yes,” she moaned. “Yes.”

“Aw, you gonna come again for me, Shayna?”

  “I don’t…I don’t know…”

He laid all his weight atop her and angled his hips so he could drive into her just right. “I do. Come again. Come again and I’ll give you mine.”

His hips flew. His hands clutched. His breath sawed in and out of his as he took what was his. What he felt like had always been meant to be his. Like Shayna had been made for him. And he’d been made for her.

“Fuck, Shayna, it’s too good, baby,” he said, his orgasm careening through him. And then he was shouting and coming and holding onto her so tight.

“Don’t stop,” she cried. “I’m so close.”

Billy gave her what she asked for, and then she did the same, coming on his cock until he was gritting his teeth from the fucking torturous pleasure of it.

He collapsed on top of her, but she wasn’t complaining. “Your arm okay, baby?” he asked.

“I have an arm?” she said, amusement plain in her breathy tone. “Oh, yeah. It’s mighty fine.”

Billy smacked the luscious curve of her ass. “Oh, yes it is.”

Shayna grinned and peered back at him, one eyebrow arched. “Hmm, that felt good, too.”

His head thunked against her shoulder. “You kill me dead, Shayna. Absofuckinglutely dead.” She laughed and he smacked that ass again, earning himself a squirm and a moan. “And I love it.”

Which was how they ended up having sex again. And again. Like it was the air they needed to breathe.

And given how long they’d both denied themselves meaningful relationships with other people, maybe it was that fundamental, that essential, to them both.

“I’m going to throw up,” Billy said. Because that was what happened when you faced your fears.

And, in this case, it was his fear that Ryan Curtis was not going to approve of them. But Billy had to face that fear head-on, because he was willing to fight for Shayna. He’d made the mistake of not doing so once, but never again.

Shayna chuckled as she fiddled with her laptop and set it up in front of them on the coffee table. “That would be gross so please don’t.”

Billy tackled her to the couch, and her laughter lit him up inside. He let himself go lax on top of her. “I feel a lot better now.”

Still laughing, she shoved out from underneath of him, and he let her go so that she didn’t hurt her arm. “If you’re nervous about what Ryan is going to say, him seeing you laying on top of me isn’t going to help.”

“Fuck, that’s true,” he said, sitting upright. He grabbed his crotch. “Okay, I found my balls again, let’s do this.”

Shay gave him a look. “Your balls are just fine, Billy. I should know since I was licking them less than an hour ago.”

  “Christ, baby,” he said.

And of course that was the very moment that the Skype call came through.

Shayna answered, and then Ryan’s face filled the screen. It was about ten at night there, and Ryan looked fucking beat. Beard on his face. Dark circles under his eyes. Sunburn on his cheeks. In other words, totally par for the course of being deployed in Iraq. “Hi, Ry!” she said.

“Oh, look, it’s a twofer!” he said, making her laugh.

“Hey, man, how’s it hanging?” Billy asked.

“High and to the right, just like always.” Ryan grinned.

“Oh my God, that’s TMI, knobhead!” Shayna said.

Suddenly, her brother leaned closer to his screen, his eyes narrowing. “Is our connection shitty or…are the two of you all beat up?”

Shayna took over answering, and Ryan’s face was almost comical as she detailed the explosion and the fire and how her pictures had appeared on front pages of the Gazette and every other localish paper, not to mention online everywhere. There were even pictures circulating of Shayna herself, a couple of which were really fucking hard to look at, because she’d gotten so damn close to the flames. But there were others that made him even prouder, if that were possible, of her holding a baby, handing out water bottles, and directing firemen to an apartment where she’d seen survivors.

Shayna was a hero. She was certainly his.

Which suddenly made what he had to do a fuck of a lot less scary.

“So, Jesus, what’s new with you, Billy?” Ryan asked. “I hope it’s not that interesting.”

Billy blinked. Then let the words fly. “I’m in love with your sister and we’re together now.” Shit, he hadn’t exactly meant to just blurt it out like that.

Ryan’s face froze. And then his brow cranked down. And then his mouth dropped open and he tilted his head.

Shayna busted out into laughter. “I think you shock-and-awed him, baby.”

Heat crawled into Billy’s cheeks. “Uh, I guess so.”

And then Ryan grinned. Fucking grinned.

“Good,” he said. “I’m surprised, but that’s good. Nothing makes me happier than the idea of my two favorite people caring for each other.”

Now Billy was probably the one with the struck-stupid look on his face. It was just that easy?

Ryan leaned close to the screen again. “But if you hurt her, Parrish, I’ll kill you
slowly and I’ll like it.”

  “Ryan!” Shayna said.

But Billy just guffawed, and damn it felt good to feel this much joy. “If I hurt her, I’ll deserve it.” Which wasn’t going to happen. Not ever again.

And just like that, they had Ryan’s blessing and a whole new life together. And happiness unlike any Billy ever knew he could have.

  Acknowledgments

No book is ever the product of the author alone, at least no book of mine. So I have a number of people I want to acknowledge and thank.

First, thank you to author Jessa Slade, who wrote a post about journalists and journalism that was so fantastic that I asked if I could use some of her words for my photojournalist heroine. Jessa was kind enough to agree and thereby helped me bring Shayna’s desire to contribute and serve to life.

Second, a thank you to author Jodi Ellen Malpas, whose The Controversial Princess rocked my world this past summer. I asked her if I could make my royals-obsessed Havana a reader of her book, and Jodi generously agreed to let me mention the title. If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it (and so does Havana)!

Next, a huge thank you to Lea Nolan who was so many times my sounding board as I worked through drafting the story. And an especially huge thank you to Christi Barth, who read and commented right behind me as I wrote and made the story a million times better for her insightful feedback and catches of embarrassing two A.M. typos. Lea and Christi are the kinds of friends every writer should be so lucky to have, and I certainly know I am.

I must also extend a big thank you to KP Simmon for having my back so many times during the writing of this book. They don’t all come easy, and this one certainly didn’t. And KP time and again helped me make it through. I’m really lucky to have her in my corner, too.

A big shout-out, too, to my Heroes and my Reader Girls & Guys and my new K-Team reviewers for supporting me with so much enthusiasm and excitement. You all make it all worthwhile!

Finally, this book wouldn’t have been finished without the support and encouragement of my husband and daughters, for which I am so very grateful. Love you guys!

And last, thank you to you, dear reader, for taking my characters into your hearts and letting them tell their stories again and again. ~LK
