“Because you get to be all smug and happy instead of confused and angry when I say . . . Andrew Fitzroy, I’m in love with you.”

Contemporary romance is a new genre for me and I had a lot of fun writing this book, even if there were no explosions or helicopters. Naturally I had a lot of help along the way and now I get to heap praise upon those people in public.

Brooke Edwards kept me sane while writing this book. It was such a whirlwind but she wasn’t scared away by my manic, daily messages and is the world’s best enabler.

Loretta Pascale has been a tireless champion since we met, always there with an encouraging word or gif.

Erin McLellan once again brought her wonderful skill and expertise to my story, for which I am forever grateful.

May Peterson is an amazingly talented editor who never fails to make me feel so much more confident about my work.

L.C. Chase outdid herself with the cover for this book. I may have spent a weirdly long time looking at it since it was finished.

And lastly, to the awesome readers. You are the absolute best! I hope you enjoy this book as much I did writing it.

  Thank you!!

  DEATH AND THE DEVIL

Where Death Meets the Devil – Jack Reardon, former SAS soldier and current Australian Meta-State asset, has seen some messy battles. But “messy” takes on a whole new meaning when he finds himself tied to a chair in a torture shack, his cover blown wide open, all thanks to notorious killer-for-hire Ethan Blade.

Why the Devil Stalks Death – Jack Reardon uncovers secrets for a living, and the Meta-State spy is pretty good at it. Or rather he thought so until he met Ethan Blade—assassin, warrior, enigma. The unlikely pair have decided to give living together a shot, but Jack’s not entirely certain what he’s gotten himself into—or exactly who he’s in it with.

When Death Frees the Devil – Ethan is finally free. He’s left the Cabal behind and embraced a civilian life with Jack, the man he loves. The only problem is that the Cabal isn’t willing to let him go. A call in the middle of the night and a threat to Jack’s family, and Ethan is back in the game. The only way out is to take on the organization that spent years warping his life.

  NIGHT CALL

Blood Work – Matt Hawkins kills monsters for a living. Slay and pay. Werewolves, trolls, the occasional ghoul that gets a bit too big for its grave; but basically, whatever nasty critter crosses his path. Mostly, he kills vampires. While he’s made something of a living out of it, he doesn’t even need the promise of cash to take down a vampire. Sure, it’s a nice bonus, but vampires are his personal crusade.

Demon Dei – It’s been six months since the harrowing conclusion of Blood Work and Matt’s waiting for the fiery repercussions. And waiting. And waiting. Even if no Big Bad wants revenge, shouldn’t he be in hot demand? Like the lawyer who wins the unwinnable case. Or the mechanic who works out what that clunking noise is in your car. Instead, Matt finds himself struggling to maintain his career as the Night Caller. But things are about to get nasty in a big, big way.

Rock Paper Sorcery – Vanquishing vampire Primals and defeating Demon Lords is one thing. They’re dangerous in an obvious, tooth and claw way. But when a sorcerer comes to town chasing a murderous rogue, Matt Hawkins is faced with something he doesn’t know how to deal with—competition as the city’s resident badarse supernatural warrior.

L.J. Hayward has been telling stories for most of her life, a good deal of them of the tall variety. She loves reading but doesn’t seem to have enough time between wanting to be a more disciplined writer, being the actual erratic writer she is, and working for dollars in a dungeon laboratory. She also lives on the Gold Coast in Queensland, but rarely sees a beach and can’t surf, though she thinks living on a houseboat might be fun. At least then she’d have an excuse to get a cat.
