They made love as the ship rocked gently and the moon faded from the sky.
Natalie slept for a while in Kirk’s arms. Dawn was tingeing the air with its first pale light when she rose and went to the rail, hugging her arms against the morning chill as she gazed across the water.
She heard Kirk stir behind her.
He said sleepily, “You never did say when we could leave on that world cruise together.”
She shook her head slowly, a tear trickling down her cheek. “I can’t, Kirk. I’m in the middle of a film. I’m going back to Ireland tomorrow.”
There was a long silence. The waves lapped softly at the hull below. A sea gull in search of breakfast swooped over the water and made a cawing sound.
Then she heard Kirk chuckle softly. “Yeah, but you’ll be back.”
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Patti Boeckman and her husband, Charles Boeckman, who write romances under the pen name, Patti Beckman, live on the South Texas coast. They have collaborated on twenty-six Silhouette and Harlequin Romance novels that have sold over two million copies worldwide.
Under the Patti Beckman byline, they have earned a reputation for stories with authentic backgrounds. When they start a new novel, they travel to the setting and spend time there absorbing and researching the locales. In the case of The Movie, they visited Hollywood, getting a first-hand view of how a film is put together, and how the industry operates. They researched the technical details of movie-making, and interviewed stunt people for an up-close and personal understanding of the hardware they use, and of how special effects are produced.
Just as important as the settings of their novels are the personalities of their fictional characters. For stories to come alive, the people in their novels have to seem real to readers. Patti and Charles have read extensively about human psychology and emotions. In addition, they have studied accounts of the emotions, foibles, triumphs, and downfalls of actual people in real situations. As a result, the characters in their stories leap off the pages, balancing their careers with romance, problems, and conflicts.
