“Am I going to be a big brother?” Jimmy asked with big eyes.
JB nearly dropped the poor kid.
Cheyenne did choke on her coffee. “No. Honey. Not that big. But it is really good news for you.” She pulled out the piece of paper and flattened it on the table.
JB set Jimmy down on the chair. “That right there is your name change.”
“You mean my last name is now Whiskey? Like you, Daddy?” Jimmy asked. “Just like you promised.”
“Yes.” JB swiped at his eyes.
“But what about Mommy? When can she have the same last name?”
“Funny you should bring that up, Jimmy.” JB turned his attention to Cheyenne. He didn’t bother lowering himself to one knee. That would be too traditional, and nothing about their romance screamed conventional. “Tell me you love me.”
She smiled. “You know I do.”
“Say the words.”
“I love you,” she said with a throaty laugh.
“Good.” He held up the ring. “Now say you’ll marry me.”
“Holy crap,” she exclaimed. “Why, Jim Beam Whiskey. What the heck have you gone and done?”
“Do I really need to give you a dissertation on a man buying an engagement ring for the woman he loves?”
She shook her head, taking the ring and slipping it onto her finger. “It’s perfect.”
“Is that a yes?” he asked.
“Oh, that is a hell yes.” She threw herself into his arms. “I belong to you. And only you. I love you, JB.”
“I love you more, Cheyenne.” His lips clamped down over hers in a lip-lock that sealed their fate.
They’d forever be intertwined as one.
