A Promise to Keep Page 3

I could feel my eyes getting damp, but I didn’t want to cry. I grabbed Ashton by the shirt and pulled him inside. He kicked the door closed behind him, then kissed me. All the strength in my body evaporated. I clung to him. Ashton let everything in his arms fall to the floor as he caught me. We made our way to the sofa still holding on to each other.

I laid down and he knelt over me. His eyes wandered over my body. During our kiss, my robe had slipped open and the lacy underwear I’d picked for our night out was in plain view. Ashton barely ran his fingers over the lace before reaching inside to cup my breasts. His thumbs teased my already straining nipples. When I shivered, he licked his lips. He noticed the clasp in the front and unfastened my bra.

Leaning forward, he kissed my collarbone then used his tongue to taunt my nipples even further. My head was swimming. I could think of better uses for that tongue, but I was trying not to be impatient. He kissed my belly and I could feel him tugging at my panties. This time I didn’t close my eyes. I looked down at Ashton between my thighs, amazed that such an impossibly sexy man was tasting me there. When he rolled his tongue over my sweet spot, I came.

Ashton leaned back. The seductive look in his eye made my skin tingle. He unbuckled his pants. His underwear was black and formfitting. It showed the contours of his body very well. He tucked his thumbs in the sides and yanked down, freeing his cock. It was enormous and twitching. My heartbeat was ringing in my ears. I was nervous and excited all at once. Ashton was going to be inside me—that was going inside me.

He lifted one of my legs as he descended. My breathing was uneven. I wanted all of him but I wasn’t sure how much I would be able to take.

“God, April…” he whispered in my ear, “You’re so tight.”

I dug my fingers into his back as he started to move. Each thrust pinned me into the sofa with such force that I thought we’d break it before we were done. It didn’t take long for him to coax me to my second orgasm, but he still hadn’t cum.

“Is something wrong?” I tried to catch my breath.

“I want to finish…in the kitchen.”

Ashton got up, scooped me up in his arms and carried me into the other room. The counter was cold, but he placed me on its edge, locking my legs in his arms.

“I’ve been dreaming of taking you like this,” he plunged back inside me, “it’s all I could think about. God, April, you’re amazing.”

I wrapped my arms around his chiseled shoulders, holding him close as he drilled into my depths. I came a third time before Ashton finally climaxed.

When we were done, he carried me upstairs to the shower.

“You’re not coming in?” I wasn’t ready to let him go, and the chance to see him soapy was enticing.

“If I get in there, you won’t get clean.”

I laughed. I knew he was half teasing and half-serious. He was already starting to get hard again just looking at me.

“Come downstairs when you’re finished. I’m going to try to salvage that pizza and wine I tossed on the ground.”

“Okay…but, promise you’ll be there when I’m done.”

This had all been incredible. The way we met, his personality, the sex. All of it. It was so close to a dream, I thought if I lost sight of him for even a second it would be over.

Ashton smiled and touched my face tenderly, “I promise.”

  Chapter 8

  Ashton

“I’d like to say something if it’s alright.” Ashton’s grandmother, Mary Anne, stood up from her chair with a little help from Gonzales.

Seeing her sweet smile always warmed my heart.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been four years since the two of you got married. April, when you came into our lives, I knew you were the right one for my boy here. Thank you for loving him and me too. The day you invited me to live with you was the happiest I’d been in a long time.”

“Mrs. Mary Anne, you’re going to make the rest of us cry! This is an anniversary party. We’re supposed to be celebrating!” Gonzales laughed and helped Mary Anne take her seat again.

  “My turn, buddy.”

“Just keep it brief, Gonzales, we don’t have all day.” Ashton laughed.

“I’m about to give you some very sage advice. As a man who has helped his wife raise three children, a soon-to-be father like you should listen to me.”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get on with it.”

“Ahem. Do everything you can to keep April happy and everything you can to protect your family. Love them with everything you are and it’ll all turn out okay.”

I was stunned at Gonzales’ thoughtful words. Ashton thanked his partner and took my hand. Our eyes met cementing another promise.

So much had happened since that night we first made love.

I was offered an opportunity with the hospitality group that owned The Waterfront. I now own my own coffee shop. It’s so successful that Ashton decided to leave his job and work with me full time.

Sometimes I wonder if the increased business has anything to do with his good looks. My shop is always packed with female customers batting their eyelashes at him. On occasion, I’ll catch one of them writing her number on the back of a receipt. Ashton always smiles politely then tosses the numbers in the trash. He never lets me forget that he has everything he wants.

In fact, he still corners me in the back office once a week after hours. All the extra hormones coursing through my system make me insatiable, but Ashton was more than happy to oblige. In those, quiet moments after our physical intimacy is over, and I can hear his heartbeat, I’m excited about the future we’re building together.
