WereBabies Page 87

Sable took a long, slow swig of his cold beer, weighing his next words carefully. “Can I talk it over with my wife and let you know tomorrow?”

“Of course. Nothing needs to happen tonight, but we need to strike while the iron is hot. We need to come out of the ashes with a strong leader.”

  Sable nodded, “I understand.”

  **

Morgan raced into the sitting room, yelling at the top of his tiny lungs. “Daddy’s on TV again!”

Olivia laughed as her son fumbled with the remote, trying to turn on the massive flat screen and flip to the right channel. In the weeks following the death of Laskin, Sable had been on the news at least once a day, if not more. As Head Elder of the Shifter Council on Human-Shifter Relations, Sable and his family had spent much of their time in the limelight.

Already the politicians responsible for the antiquated laws had been ousted; the laws abolished. Humans and shifters were free to mate as they saw fit, whether married or not. Sable’s family had served as the example of everything that was right with interspecies relationships. As a result of their very public acceptance, several families were able to come out of hiding, no longer fearing for their very lives.

The reporter began speaking, images from a rally held the night before flashing across the screen while she spoke. “While there are die-hard fighters from both sides of the resistance, by and large, the country has begun to move in a new and positive direction. Under the skillful guidance of Sable James and his supporters, politicians on both sides have begun to create and enforce laws that reverse the damaging, fear-based laws of the last decade. There are already rumors circulating on Capitol Hill about Sable James. Will he be our first shifter President?”

The television clicked off and Sable set the remote back on the end table. Morgan jumped up and ran to his father, leaping into his arms for a bear hug.

Terrence turned to Sable, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Is that true, Sable? Are you considering running?”

“Rumors are what they are, Terrence. Right now, I’m just focused on setting things right here.”

“Spoken like a true politician.” Terrence winked at him, chuckling. “You’ll be staying in Florida for a while then?”

“Yes, at least until things have settled down.” His face darkened, the pain darting across his face so quickly it was almost imperceptible. “Hopefully by then, will have heard from Egan.”

Nodding, Terrence cocked his head to the side and his eyes slid to the floor. The room was silent as they each took a moment to ponder the whereabouts of Egan. He hadn’t been a casualty of Grace’s rescue efforts. In truth, he’d disappeared without a trace and without any contact in over a month. Each day, Sable seemed less and less certain his brother would be found alive, and Terrence could tell it tore him to pieces.

“I was thinking, Sable. This house is yours. The only reason I was able to purchase it was because it was wrongly seized from you when you fled. If you’d like it-”

Sable held up his hand, silencing his friend. “That’s a very generous offer, but Olivia and I talked about it, and we want to get something with a little less,” he paused, searching for the right word, “history. We’re going to stay close, in case Egan comes back. But we want to buy a place that's ours without all of the back story and sour memories.”

“I completely understand. Stay here as long as you need to, don’t rush into a purchase just to get out of my hair.”

“Thank you, Terrence. I appreciate your hospitality more than you know.” He clapped the man on the back, smiling broadly at his old friend.

“It’s the least I can to for the leader of our new beginning. You’re destined for big things, Sable. I’m happy to be a part of that.”

The two men were silent for a moment, each considering his role in the new age of alliance between the two species. Both men had dreamed of this change their entire lives, and now that they were so close it was hard not to lose themselves in the excitement of it all. Their grandchildren would never know a time where they had to hide their identity to protect their families, and their lives.

Sable’s cell phone rang. Looking at the caller ID, he excused himself to take the call in the hallway. Olivia strained her ears, her curiosity getting the better of her as he gave monosyllabic answers. He ended the call quickly, stepping back into the room and motioning to Olivia.

“Terrence, would you watch Morgan? The realtor just called and she’s found the perfect house.”

  “Of course, take your time.”

Grabbing Olivia’s hand, he all but dragged her out of the house to the car. His excitement was infectious, and Olivia caught herself nearly running along beside him to keep up.

  Epilogue

The realtor drove away, leaving Sable and Olivia with the keys to their new house. Olivia looked around, drinking in the colors and the textures of the walls. Her footsteps echoed in the empty house, muted only slightly by the plush carpets. Morgan was going to be beside himself with excitement when he saw the back yard, complete with a tree house and low hanging zip line.

The family who had had the house built never moved in, fleeing to a safer area when the fighting first broke out. Everything in the house was new and untouched, and Sable promised they’d hit the furniture store in the morning to furnish it. By week’s end, they’d be in their new home.

Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled Olivia in close and nuzzled her neck.

“I love this place, Sable. And there’s enough room for Grace, if she wants to stay”

Sable kissed her neck and chuckled, the vibration tickling her softly. “I don’t think Grace is going anywhere.”

Olivia pulled away from him, looking over her shoulder and regarding him with confusion. “What do you mean she isn’t going anywhere? She’s almost completely healed. She can move anytime.”

Sable kissed the end of her nose and winked at her. “She is healed and she could have moved at any time. You don’t think she was sticking around for you, do you?”

Suddenly, it hit her: The lingering touches, Terrence’s attention to her every need. His tender care and dressing of her wounds as she healed. Sable was right, Grace was exactly where she needed to be.

“So what in the world are we going to do with five bedrooms? Even if Egan comes back, we’ll still have more room than we could possibly need.”

Sable cupped Olivia’s cheek and tilted her head up for a deep kiss. “Who said we were done growing our family?”

Olivia returned his kiss hungrily, her nipples hardening against her shirt as his tongue darted into her mouth. She put her arms up over her head, inviting him to remove the delicate knit sweater. He didn’t need to be told twice. He pulled the fabric over her head, letting it fall to the floor as he continued to kiss her.

“Sable, there isn’t even furniture yet.”

He lowered her to the floor, pushing her skirt up and sliding her lacy panties down. His hand stroked her wetness as he looked into her eyes. “Who needs furniture?”

  CHAPTER ONE

  “Rachel”

“You have to go,” Charlie said.

“Honestly?” I asked in a disappointed tone.

“This party will be massive and you’ll definitely be able to make some connections there!” he exclaimed, “Not to mention the famous model Ali will be there! Plus we got your perfume ad onto the slideshow that they’ll be running throughout the night, so you have to be there.”

“Fine, fine,” I said, hoping that Charlie would get off my back.

Charlie was a great agent but sometimes it felt like he works me a tad too hard, especially when it comes to social events when I’m not really at my best. Somehow socializing among high society can be really difficult, especially when a lot of them are really stupid.

This isn’t me being above high society, but just that a lot of high society didn’t learn much in school. I never finished, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t learn anything. I know the name of every muscle in the body and how to properly calculate mass. I know how the political system works and the name of every president, I know materialistic feminism, and the philosophies of the syphilis fevered Nietzsche. Somehow the conversations at these things never strike my fancy, and neither did any of the old farts at these gatherings. It was all … disappointing. I would much rather be at the gym squatting or at home researching new job openings.

Being an amateur model was hard but it was something I loved. I loved being fawned over at the makeup table, the feel of the artist stroking their brushes across my face creating something far more beautiful than I could ever accomplish on my own. I loved the way I felt under the heat of a lens, striking poses and holding facial expressions ranging from deadly to bored to affectionate. I loved the sound of my stilettos striking the ground as I make my way down the runway in something I could never wear in public.

It was a surprise for my relatives when I left school to chase my dream, but it was never because I wasn’t smart enough, after all I was in the top 15 percentile of my pre-med studies. It was more so that I was more passionate about this. About the feeling I got, the rush. I never got that while reading through a textbook about the workings of the body.

“I need a dress, though,” I reasoned with Charlie.

“Already got you one, Darling,” Charlie argued.

He was the type to be prepared for anything so I shouldn’t be surprised.

“Maybe you will meet someone exciting!” Charlie exclaimed. “You’re bound to be popular.”

I laughed. I wasn’t looking for a partner right now. I really wanted to try to live my life for me now. I wanted to be free of any commitments, at least for a little while.

“You and I both know that having a boyfriend will be bad press for me,” I said light-heartedly.

“That doesn’t mean I don’t support it!” Charlie said.

Charlie laughed and his freckled complexion crinkled with his smile. I was lucky to have him as my agent. He always had my back through thick and thin, plus he’s landed me some great deals like this recent perfume shoot.

“What happened to you and Dan anyway?” Charlie asked.

“Me and Dan… well you know that we broke up,” Charlie nodded as I spoke, “but we haven’t talked much since.”

“Good, he wasn’t worth your time,” Charlie said, ruffling his red hair.

“Here I thought you were being supportive of me in a relationship!” I joked.

We both laughed and I punched Charlie’s shoulder.

“Dan and I just weren’t in the same places in our lives…” I explained.

  “How so?” Charlie questioned.

“He was on marriage and children, while I’m still on my career. I’d love to have kids and marry the guy, just not right now,” I said.

  “Did he propose?!” Charlie exclaimed.

“No, no,” I shook my head, “but we had talked about it and that’s when we decided that we weren’t for one another,” I said.

Charlie nodded his head. He seemed to be thinking about something.

“Good on you for not putting away your dreams for him,” Charlie said. “That’s very commendable of you.”

“I just wish he wasn’t so sour about it,” I laughed.

Dan, my ex-boyfriend was a lovable guy but for him it was marriage or breakup, kids or bust. I couldn’t spend my life with someone who dealt in absolutes, especially when it came to my job. It felt as if he wanted me to be his trophy wife or something, like oh she was going to be a model before I made her pregnant. It was just overall a bad experience since I felt like I was being taken advantage of the entire conversation. He made it out like I was the bad guy! He practically gas-lighted me on things I’ve never said or done before, but like I said, he was lovable so it was hard to tell that he was being manipulative.

  ***

  “Rachel”

His fingers wove into my hair as his breath fanned over my shoulder. My heart pumped painfully as my lungs felt breathless.

“Let’s go somewhere more private,” Shawn whispered.

I hummed deep in my chest as I realized that we were still in the hallway of the hotel, in plain sight. Anyone could walk by and see Shawn and me all over each other, kissing, touching. My hand pushed Shawn’s chest weakly as I began to shuffle through my purse’s contents to find the room key-card.

I opened the door and we both stumbled inside, barely managing to close the door before my back touched the wall and his lips were on mine once again. The heat of Shawn’s body pressing against me sent shocks of pleasure through my nerves, effectively shutting down any anxiety I had about this. I could feel want building deep in my guts as I tasted the man in front of me, I smelled his musk and overpowering sin.

Shawn took my lower lip with his teeth and bit down gently, then licked it as if an apology. I sighed through my nose and wrapped my arms around his neck.

  “Rachel…” Shawn whispered, pulling away.

  “Yes?” I asked.

  “Is this okay?” he questioned.

I almost snorted but was able to stifle it. Instead of answering, I leaned forward and kissed Shawn with as much passion I could muster.

“I want you inside me,” I admitted.

Shawn, in response, pushed his right knee between my legs, which caused the fabric of my dress to hike up, and a wonderful pressure to appear against my crotch. He then kissed the side of my neck, nibbling at the sensitive flesh there.

“I’ve been eyeing you all night, Rachel,” Shawn said into my neck, “You’ve been teasing me with those beautiful legs this entire time.”

  “Oh please,” I said.

“It’s true though, I couldn’t stop staring at you…” Shawn said between kisses. His hands took mine as he led me towards the large queen bed in the middle of the hotel room.

“I’d love to see more of those legs,” Shawn smiled.

“Then undress me,” I said, the mood striking me. I wanted Shawn to do the work, and teasing him seemed like the right way to go to get that.

Shawn smiled as he moved in close and wound his large, muscled arms around me to reach for the zipper that sat in the middle of my back. He unzipped it slowly and smoothly and all I could hear were the teeth coming undone. He stepped back and pulled my straps off my shoulders in a slow motion. The dress fell down over my figure and I heard Shawn pull in a long breath as my chest was presented to him.

I took his hands after a moment and placed them atop my perky breasts. Shawn looked at me and then back down to his hands, a look of wonder on his face. It made pride swell inside of
me as I felt his hands begin to massage me.

“They’re so soft, Rachel…” Shawn said.

I smiled in reply and watched Shawn enjoy the experience. I felt spikes of pleasure, but I wanted so much more so my hands began to move of their own accord to the space between Shawn’s legs. There I found a hard rod of flesh, heavy and swollen underneath the zipper of his dress pants. I looked up at Shawn and saw his white teeth bite at his lip as I began to rub his cock through the thick fabric.

A small sigh made it through Shawn’s mouth before the world turned and I found myself lying on the bed with Shawn between my legs. My panties and his thick pants were the only barrier between us as Shawn began to thrust himself against me. I moaned at the hard contact on my crotch, it was so satisfying after all the teasing and flirty banter between us earlier. Shawn bucked his hips towards mine and the friction made me moan again.

“You sound so pretty,” Shawn commented.

I looked up at him sternly but his next thrust sent my mouth open again with pleasure. Shawn smiled down at me.

  “So pretty…”

He leaned down and placed a kiss on my lips. I took that moment to flip us over so I was straddling Shawn’s hips. He looked up in surprise as I sat up and began to grind down heavy and hard.

“Ah!” Shawn exclaimed as he gripped hard on my hips.

I smiled and continued to grind down. “Is it good?” I asked.

“So good,” Shawn answered as his hands urged me on.

I looked down at Shawn’s handsome features as the friction between us caused his mouth to open and close in pleasure. His sharp features were so kissable, a jaw with just the tiniest bit of stubble, almond eyes, high cheekbones, and thick, commanding eyebrows. His hair fell disheveled on his brow as he made eye contact with me, the dark tresses contrasting against his light skin. I pushed my body forwards till I was flush against Shawn’s chest, my own naked and bare chest against his white collared shirt.
