The Twelfth Insight: The Hour of Decision Page 23

by James Redfield

The fist step is always a commitment to practice direct spiritual experience in life. Then ask for help. Knock on the door. Concentrate on not missing any Synchronistic opportunities that come your way. Your life will never be the same.

  Questions for Discussion

  • If our narrator was expecting to meet Wil at the airport, how did he find him at the sports bar by the side of the road at the beginning of chapter 1? Why did our narrator stop there? How would you explain this first occurrence?

  • We learn that “the universe is filled with all sorts of fortuitous encounters, intuitions, and mysterious coincidences, all pointing to a higher purpose behind our lives, and in fact, behind all of human history,” What fortuitous encounters, intuitions, or mysterious coincidences have you experienced in your own life? Do you feel you are able to engage with those coincidences? What do you think you could do to be more engaged with them?

  • Will explains that our narrator should have been true to himself when faced with the skeptic needling him at the sports bar, and then he would have remained in the synchronistic flow. Our narrator says he usually just stays away from people in order to avoid having them knock him out of his flow. Why do you suppose our narrator does this? Why do you suppose Wil would believe it is not the ideal choice to simply “stay away” form people? In your own words, can you explain what out narrator should be doing when he’s around skeptics—or anyone who might knock him out of his flow?

  • Our narrator’s Template Group considers at length the similarities and differences among many of the world’s religions. If you were part of that Template Group, what thoughts would you contribute about your own religious background and its relationship to the other world religions? Do you see other differences or similarities that aren’t named in the story?

  • Our narrator experiences “agape” with Rachel. Agape is defined as a love state that transcends sexual complexity. Why do you think it is important that this sort of love is platonic or nonsexual? How might you experience this for yourself? Do you think it can happen with anyone? Or only with certain people? Why or why not?

  • What lessons in The Twelfth Insight felt most powerful to you? Were there any insight that seemed frightening or difficult for you to master? And, conversely, were there any insights that made you feel uplifted or excited to read about?
