“Okay Angel, but nothing you tell me will make me change my mind.”
I take a deep breath, “Back in Oklahoma, after I left college me and Trix dabbled in quite a few party drugs…”
“That’s okay Angel, I’m sure most people have dabbled in their early twenties.”
“We took it to the extreme though. Most weekends we’d get completely wasted. I slept with a lot of guys Ash and we took a lot of drugs. I was a bit of a skank.”
“Angel, we’ve already had the whole ‘what’s your number’ talk, so it’s not a surprise to me, why do you look so worried telling me?”
“Well, I need to explain why I reacted so dramatically to seeing you stoned. Me and Trixie sort of have a loathing towards drugs now-a-days. We had a really bad experience one weekend that made us quit for good. It scared the shit out of me and when I saw you wasted, I knew I would never cope if you were into taking drugs.”
“What happened Angel?” Ash asks.
“Well, we were out at a club Trixie was working in at the time. She still had about an hour before her shift finished, but I was hanging out with a couple of guys that me and Trix had met earlier that night.” Ash grunts in disapproval as I look ashamedly at him.
“It’s okay Angel, I don’t have to like the fact that you saw other guys, but I do understand.”
“Anyway, these guys gave me some sort of pill. I thought they took the same type of pill, but I guess they faked it. Anyway the next thing I remember is a kafuffle out in the car park. Trixie tells me that I was almost unconscious, completely out-of-it and they were attempting to pile me into their car.”
Ash scowls angrily, “Holy fuck Angel, what happened, were you okay?”
“Luckily one of the bouncers saw what was happening and told Trixie. Her and a couple of the security team rushed out to the car park and managed to stop them. Ash, if Trixie hadn’t been there, god knows what would have happened to me.”
Ash has an angry look on his face as he growls, “I want to kill the bastards, what happened to the fuckers?”
“Well Trixie and the security guys were so concerned about me that they didn’t see the guys jump into their car. They took off so quickly we didn’t even get a chance to get the licence plate number. We never saw them again.”
“Were you okay Angel, did they hurt you?” Ash is squeezing me tight.
“No, they didn’t hurt me Ash. But I was in the hospital for a couple of days. The doctors couldn’t figure out what they’d given me. But whatever it was, they had given me a dose so high that it almost killed me.”
Ash growls again, “Fuck Angel, I wish I’d been there to protect you.”
“I was a stupid fool Ash. I should never have taken drugs from guys that I barely knew. Anyway the whole ordeal was enough for me and Trixie to stay away from drugs from then on. You just never know who you can trust. Now-a-days we sort of have a bit of a grudge against people who take them, so that’s why I really flipped out when I found out you were an addict.”
“An ex-addict Angel, I’m never going to touch them again, I promise.”
“I believe you Ash. And I believe you about Beth too.”
“Does that mean we can work it out Angel? Does that mean we can be together?” He asks desperately.
“I would really love that Ash.” I whisper.
“Oh Angel, you make me so god-damned happy.”
“There’s no way I could live without you Ash.”
“We’ll work it out Angel, and I promise I won’t be such a prick about you having to work. I know you enjoy your job and we’ll find a way.”
“Well, that’s yet another thing I wanted to talk to you about Ash. When I was up in New York, the work was fine, but I missed you every single minute. I was miserable being away from you. That’s why I came back early. I made a decision and I hope like hell it’s okay with you. I finished up the contract at the hotel early and I have no plan on booking any more contracts. I’ve made the decision to spend every minute I can with you.”
Ash is grinning from ear to ear. He jumps up excitedly pulling me up with him so we’re standing on top of the bed, his hands clasped tightly around my waist. “You’re fucking kidding me Angel, that’s fantastic news. I get to have you with me all the time! Jesus, I really am the luckiest mother-fucker alive.” He jumps us up and down on the bed like we’re a couple of kids on a trampoline.
“I’m the one that’s lucky!” I laugh. “I get to spend the rest of my life with my high school sweetheart and the love of my life, who happens to be the sexiest rock star on the planet.”
“And I get to spend my life with the hottest and most amazing girl on the planet. Angel, we have so much catching up to do, and we have the rest of our lives to do it. I love you Angel.”
“I love you too Ash. I’m yours. Always have been. Always will be.”
“And I’m yours Angel. Always have been. Always will be.”
Epilogue
Six months later…
It’s the fourteenth of February and we’re in Paris. We’ve been on the road touring around Europe for the past four months. It’s been hard work. I’ve taken over all the tour arrangements and bookings. Beth was fired six months ago after the whole drug fiasco. I have to admit I was not sorry to see her go and it’s sort of been great that I’ve been able to use my skills to help out the guys. It means that I hardly have any time to myself, which I really don’t mind and I’m loving spending every minute I can with Ash.
Tonight is Oblivion’s last concert before we head back to LA for a couple of weeks rest before the guys go back into the studio to record their next album. I make sure that I watch each and every concert from backstage. Tonight is supposed to be a special one, being Valentine’s Day. The guys have made some special arrangements at the venue, but they won’t tell me what they are, apparently it’s going to be a surprise.
~~~
Oblivion’s on stage, rocking the twenty thousand strong crowd who are all thoroughly enjoying the show. The guys have already performed their encore and are just about to finish. Normally Scott says thanks to the crowd and they all say goodbye, but I hear Ash’s voice trying to get the crowd’s attention. They’re all cheering and hollering so Ash raises his hands and tries to quieten them. Once they’ve all gone quiet and are listening to him he starts to talk.
“Hey folks, thanks so much for coming out tonight. We love performing here in the city of love. And ladies please forgive your man for bringing you to a rock concert on Valentine’s Day, I know it’s not the most romantic date, so we appreciate your support.”
The crowd all cheer and whistle again.
Once they all quieten down Ash starts talking again. “Okay, I have something special we want to do tonight, so I hope it’s not too sappy for you all. I want to tell you a story…about nine years ago I met the love of my life…”
The crowd all ooh and ahh. My heart starts thumping madly.
“But being the stupid dipshit that I am, I fucked it all up and eight years ago I lost her.”
The crowd all boo and Ash laughs. The band all chuckle along with him.
“But six months ago, she walked back into my life and turned everything upside down. I’m so lucky to have been given the opportunity to have her back in my life and she means everything to me…but guys, the thing is that I really want to marry her, but the first time I asked her she said no!”
Ash grasps his heart and pouts dramatically. The crowd all boo and then laugh at his gesture.
“But I get why she said no. It wasn’t the most romantic proposal. So I made her a promise. I told her that next time I proposed, that I would do it properly with flowers and love heart shit…”
The crowd all holler and cheer.
Ash raises his hands in the air and gives a thumbs up signal. Suddenly half a dozen loud explosions blast through the stadium in quick succession. The stage and half the audience are swathed with colourful flowers and pink confetti love hearts. There’s millions of th
em floating around and covering the stage.
Ash gets down on one knee and looks directly at me in the backstage wings.
“So what do ya think Angel. Will you marry me?”
The crowd all go silent waiting for my answer.
I smile the widest smile I’ve ever smiled and I wonder out onto the stage. My confidence falters slightly as I take in the thousands of people watching us, but I focus my eyes back onto Ash. As I get close to him he stands up and holds his arms open. His head is cocked to the side cheekily and his eyebrows are raised in a gesture of question.
“Yes Ash, I’ll marry you.” I say as I jump into his arms and kiss him passionately.
The crowd all cheer wildly. The sound is deafening.
Ash mumbles against my lips, “You’ve just made me the happiest man in the world Angel.”
“This is amazing Ash, all the flowers and love heart confetti, it’s beautiful.”
“Well I did promise flowers and love hearts.” He laughs.
The rest of the band come up and congratulate us. Scott briefly thanks the crowd, the curtain falls in front of us and the lights of the stadium all come on.
Ash picks me up and carries me off stage as we kiss passionately.
It’s been a fantastic night and we’re both excited to spend the rest of our lives together. I’m not sure what it will entail and what adventures we have yet to experience, but we’ll be doing it together. I’m his and he’s mine. Always have been. Always will be.
About the Author
I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my wonderful husband and two beautiful daughters.
I have always been an avid reader and tend to chomp through a large volume of books, mainly in the romance genre. Early in 2014 I decided to put my hand to fictional writing. After penning my first scene I discovered that I enjoyed it immensely and so resolved to continue with the rest of the story that was swirling in my imagination. This has resulted in my first novel, Heaven Sent. I hope you enjoyed it.
