“We can’t stand the thought of you being shot at again. So we need you to be where we can take good care of you. Marry one of us,” Drew said, looking endearingly unsure of himself. “Of course, you’ll really be marrying us both, so it doesn’t matter which one you choose. We just want to make if official.” They both went down on one knee, right in front of both sets of families. All conversations stopped and everyone took an avid interest in them. “Will you marry us?”
Farah didn’t even have to think about it “Yes!” she cried. “Yes, I will.”
Spontaneous applause broke out. Tears ran freely down Farah’s face. Drew whooped, slapped Isaac’s back, and swung Farah clean off her feet.
Something made her look up at the ceiling at that moment. She couldn’t be sure, it was probably just a trick of the candlelight, but no one would convince her she didn’t see the outline of three faces smiling down at the two families as the long healing process began.
