“Will I ever not want you this way?” he whispered moments later as he drew her to a sitting position and held her tightly against him.
“Maybe. But I hope not. If I’m lucky you will always want me.” She pressed a kiss against his chest, wishing his uniform shirt wasn’t keeping her from touching skin.
Hope. Luck. Maybe.
Words, she’d decided, she planned to live by.
“I love you,” Seth whispered against her hair.
Yeah. He loved her. And they would make this work.
With hope. Luck … and no maybe about it.
“I love you too, Detective. Now what do you say we clean up both me and this desk before everyone figures out we aren’t discussing points of law.”
“Which brings me to a point I do want to discuss,” he said, helping her with her bra.
“Please,” she said with a grin as she piled her hair back on top of her head and went in search of her hairpin. “Not the Bradford case.”
“I was thinking more about the King–Martinez case. The one where we make things legal.”
She stopped with the pin pushed halfway into her hair. Stared with glistening eyes.
“Marry me, Elena. Rescue me from myself.”
Her heart slammed hard, heavy, true, in her breast. She didn’t even hesitate. “Yes.”
Then she was in his arms again. “Yes, yes, yesssss!!!!!!!”
