  Tracy took Anderson by the hand as they stood outside the abandoned fish processing plant. The sun had long since set. They stared up into the sky and watched as fragments of the orbital command station and other debris from the battle caught in the gravitational pull of the planet was sucked into the atmosphere. Blazing a fiery trail across the night sky.

  She turned to Anderson and smiled as the acolytes loaded the Angel-1 data core onto the small inconspicuous civilian freighter that had been sent to collect them. “And so it begins.” she said softly. “The fall of humankind.”

  “They have been judged and found wanting.” replied Anderson.

  She nodded and replied quietly as she led him onto the ship. “Yes, but the Brethren provide for the faithful.”

  A few minutes later they slipped unnoticed into the void of space weaving thought the vast debris field and on into hyperspace.
