Redeemed In Shadows

“You will never see the Black Veil or me and the other’s again. Michael’s words whispered in the back of his head and that was okay. He sifted through her now brown hair, the strands like silk between his fingers. He brought her hair to his nose and inhaled deeply. She smelled like their lovemaking with her own special hint of tropical bliss. He’d have to deal with the team. See if they’d let him back. He knew from his brother Dravaggio was no longer on the team, but that didn’t mean it would be okay with the others for him to come back.

The sun was coming up and even though he needed the sleep, he refused to close his eyes. He too thought she was a dream. He pulled her closer and her arm reached to drape across his stomach, where she held tight. Everything still wasn’t right in the world, but for the night, it was a perfect moment in time.

Banging on the door woke Kapua up.

“Get up Hale, fuck, you missed breakfast, no way you’re missing lunch.” Dietrich said through the door.

  “Fine, give me twenty.”

Stretching, she peeled open one eye and then the other.

He’s gone. It was only a dream.

Deflated, she stood. She wasn’t going to cry. Wasn’t going to dwell on last night’s fantasy. But it was a damn good one, because her body ached in all the right places. It’s from the swimming. She reminded herself. Quickly she hopped in the shower, wincing at all the aches and pains from last night’s swim. She had the showers so hot that they fogged up the mirrors in the bathroom forcing her to open the bathroom door. Wiping the mirror, she went through the motions of brushing her teeth and pulling her hair on top of her head when she noticed the love bite on her neck.

  What in the world.

Leaning forward she looked more closely at the wound on her neck. Sure enough, there were bite marks. Dressing quickly she made her way to the fourth floor where everyone was gathered for lunch, everyone except Gabe. The bite marks were real; he had to have been there last night.

“Come eat and stop standing there like you’re not hungry.” Adam said as he motioned her forward to the table. They’d saved her coffee cake from breakfast. At least there was that. She went to reach for it and a strong arm grabbed her waist, while a strong hand reached for the last coffee cake. Kapua let out a squeal and cursed.

“We’ll take lunch in our room.” Gabe rumbled against the side of her neck. The others all smiled as if they’d been in on a private joke.

“We knew that already.” Jes said smiling as she rounded the table to sit next to Draven.

Kapua melted into his arms, but quickly turned addressing him.

“Seriously, you’re going to be an ass and eat the last coffee cake?”

“Yup,” he said around a mouth full of the sugary sweetness.

“When you guys come up for air, Gabriel you need to be briefed on the latest events. We all talked earlier this morning and we need you on the team.”

Her man nodded at Draven, but was still looking at her.

“No problem, and thanks for having me back, but me and the little woman here will be down at least a day. I know there’s work to be done and I don’t for see any vacay for a long time. So I’m taking a mental day.”

“You’re giving him a day Stone? For real?” Royce complained. “Hell, I’m taking a day if block head gets a day.”

“Why don’t we all take a day,” Jes suggested tugging on Draven’s ear.

Gabe’s arm squeezed gently and then he was pulling her down the hall back the way she came.

  “You’re really here.”

“Yup, told you last night I’m not leaving.”

  “Never.”

  “Nope.”

“Hell to the yeah,” Kapua said, jumping into his arms. She snagged the rest of the cake from his hand and shoved it into her mouth smiling wide. Gabe kissed her cake and all.

“I take it that means you love me.”

“Absofuckinlutely. I love you now. I’ll love you always. Remember who said it first.”

  Gabe laughed.

  “I did.”

  She shook her head.

“No, you sang it first. I said it first.”

“Fine,” he kissed her nose. “I,” he kissed each of her eyes, “love,” he nuzzled her neck, his hands going to her ass to lift her up so he could pull her closer, “you.” He kissed her deeply, the taste of coffee cake between them as she melted at his words. The entire time they kissed, he continued their journey back to their room.

  Their room.

They were officially a couple, and that just made her giddy.

Gabe opened the door to their room. Quickly he closed it with his foot and sat her on her feet. He walked her over to the bed where he sat down. Leaving her standing, he said in a commanding tone.

  “Now strip, do it slowly.”

  “So bossy, Angel Boy.”

The corners of his mouth tilted up into a sexy grin.

She’d take her clothes off. She’d do whatever he wanted.

He’d taken down her defenses brick by brick, some of the shots were damaging, but she survived. He showed her a place that was free of dark corners and ugly monsters. They had both been looking for something in the beginning of their journeys, and although their roads were hard and hurtful, they still found what they were searching for, and it would always be in each other’s arms.
