  Section 4

In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.

Whenever the President transmits both Houses of Congress his written declaration that he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, and until he transmits to them a written declaration to the contrary, such powers and duties shall be discharged by the Vice President as Acting President.

Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to both Houses of Congress their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to both Houses of Congress his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to both Houses of Congress their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.

Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several Planetary Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the Republic of Planets and of the several Planets, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the Republic.

  Afterword

Please Leave a Review on Amazon it helps others find this book as well as helps me become a better writer.

This is a work of science fiction, however, I wrote it to give my son something to always remind him of the things I believe are important to a young man. I hope that my son sees a reminder of his father in the things Davis’s father told him. I hope you enjoy this book as much my son and I had reading it together (minus the language of course, he is only 7)

To be fair, while a lot of the backstory comes from personal experience, I never had a fling with my Commanding Officer’s daughter. Instead I got my Colonel yelled at by the General in front of the Battalion, but that story did not fit this story. However, I did get demoted for threatening my company gunny. I am not particularly proud of those parts of my service, but I am proud of my service in its totality. I may have gotten in trouble a lot, but I never did a dishonorable act. While I was not the best Marine to walk across the Parade Ground of Paris Island, the lessons on life and leadership that I learned in the Corps are still a large part of who I am nearly 30 years later.

I want my son to be successful, no doubt, but I want that success to be tempered with intelligence, wisdom, and kindness. To never be afraid to stand up to evil, and to treat all beings with respect and kindness no matter what is popular or convenient.

Raising a son to be masculine and tough, but still remain gentle and kind has always been a hard task. It becomes more so in a world where masculinity is misunderstood and labeled toxic. Just because it is popular to demonize one group over another, it is not okay, even if has been done to you. At least that is how I raise my son to act.

I wrote this book so that when the time comes that rational voices can’t be heard over the loud ones, he, and others like him, can take comfort in knowing that you can always fight against injustice and use the mind to overcome just as one of my favorite fictional characters, Ragnar Danneskjold once said “One of these centuries, the brutes private or public, who believe they can rule their betters by force, will learn the lesson of what happens with brute force encounters mind and force.”
