Ryan's Obsession Page 7

“Uh...” She sidled sideways. “Can I have a rain check? I’m really tired.”

He stalked her. It might be her overactive imagination, but she felt hunted as he matched her step for step until her back met the side of her car.

“When?” He braced both hands on her hood, caging her in.

Camille tried to meld into the fiberglass to keep their bodies from touching. “I’ll stop by Starbucks on the way in tomorrow. What’s your flavor?”

Mateo narrowed his eyes. “That’s not exactly what I had in mind.”

“It’s what you requested,” she said a bit tartly. “Do you mind? I don’t like people I don’t know in my personal space.”

A slow, sexy grin spread across his face, changing his appearance from dangerous to devastatingly attractive. Oh, he really shouldn’t have done that.

“Not the touchy-feely type?” he asked, making no effort to move.

“No.” Camille cursed inwardly when it came out husky. She cleared her throat and stated in a firmer voice, “No, I’m not.”

He tilted his head to the side, and his gaze traveled from her eyes, to her feet, and up again. “That’s a shame. I think I’d enjoy being touched by you.”

Her eyes rounded, and her voice rose to a squeak. “Are you…flirting with me?”

“If you have to ask, I’m obviously not doing it too well,” he mused.

Spine stiffening, Camille used her purse to push on his chest until finally, he retreated a step, giving her room. “I appreciate your help. You let me know what kind of coffee you want, and I’ll get it for you. As for anything else, not interested,” she lied without qualm.

A spark lit in his eyes. “A challenge. I like.”

She frowned at him. “No challenge. Simply not interested. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have someone waiting.”

Camille turned and reached for the door handle.

The heat from his body scorched her from shoulder to hips as he leaned in and whispered into her ear, “I’m not married, engaged or otherwise attached, in case you wondered, and unlike you, I’m very interested.” He placed a quick kiss on the tender, sensitive skin below her ear.

The minute he moved, Camille opened the driver’s door and slid inside the vehicle.

Mateo caught the top before she could close it and bent into the opening. “By the way, before you try lying to me again, you should know I can smell your sweet little pussy creaming for me. You’re not as unaffected as you’re pretending. Wait for me. I’m following you home.”

Stunned, her mouth dropped open. He shut the door before she found her voice. Mateo picked up his laptop case and strolled to his car. Flustered and uncomfortable, as soon as he was a good enough distance away, Camille started her car and pulled out of her parking space. As she left the garage, she averted her head to avoid looking at Mateo, who she knew was glaring at her for disobeying his order.

On the drive home, she kept glancing in her rear view mirror to make sure he hadn’t followed. Her thoughts whirled with replies she could have made.

“Smell my pussy indeed,” she scoffed. Then frowning, she sniffed the air. Intimately acquainted with her body and all of its odors, she smelled nothing. “Camille, it was a bluff, and you fell for it.”

Still scowling, she came to a stop at the red light a block away from her building. “He’s just yanking your chain. He said it himself. I present a challenge. The man’s a player, used to having women fall all over him. Get him his coffee and forget about it.”

Issue settled, Camille pushed the whole incident from her mind.
