  She crept forward and the cat inched away.

  “Trouble, I’m going to do something terrible when I catch you.” As she maneuvered to the very edge, the cat stepped back to safety, revealing the steep drop off that was sheer for about fifty feet, before it angled out. On the ledge below was the nude body of a young woman. Her blonde hair was streaked with blood, and her eyes wide open, staring up at the sky. A nylon stocking was tied around her neck.

  “Oh, no.” She recognized the young woman as the missing bank employee, Debby Caldwell.

  The events of the past night took on a completely different shading and she crawled back from the edge, glancing behind her. Had she bumped into the killer as he was taking Debby to her death and the body dump? The killer could still be in the area. “We have to get Rob up here,” she said. “Now.”

  As she scurried back and jumped to her feet, Trouble was more than willing to follow her down the trail as she rushed to Barney and a cell phone connection.
