Wednesday (The Witches of Wimberley Book 3) Page 8

“Why did you think you had healing energy to send?” he asked.

“See? I told you it was stupid.”

“I have a reason for asking and it’s not because I want to ridicule you.”

“I don’t even have a good answer. It’s just a thought that came to me. Why?”

“Because, when a person has an impulse, it often means there’s some talent to back it up.”

When she realized where he was going with that, she began shaking her head. “You mean healing. No. I don’t have that talent.”

  “How do you know?”

  “Just do.”

“That’s not an answer. Do witches get sick a lot?”

“Witches don’t get sick at all. You know that.”

“Then how do you know you’re not a healer? Maybe you never had the chance to find out.”

“That’s pretty…” She started to say that was farfetched then she remembered something. She began looking around, but couldn’t find where those warlocks had put her phone. “Can I use your phone?”

“What’s mine is yours,” he said.

She dialed Bell, who answered by saying, “What’s the matter with you? I told you to keep me posted! Did you find her? Is she okay?”

Wednesday’s eyes went to Rally. “I think I just uncovered your ‘source’.”

  “Wednesday?”

“Yeah. It’s me, blabbermouth.” She couldn’t exactly be mad since Bell had inadvertently sent Wednesday’s savior to rescue her.

  “Tell me everything,” Bell demanded.

“Later. Promise. Right now I just need to know something. You remember that time that you crashed your bike going down the hill too fast?”

  “Yeah?”

“You were screaming that your leg was broken. Do you remember that?”

“Of course. It was awful enough to give me nightmares. I hope I never feel anything like that again.”

“I know. It was awful just watching. What happened?”

“What do you mean? You just said you remember.”

“I need you to relive it, like it just happened.”

“It was a long time ago.”

“Get in the time machine. I need details.”

“Okay. I’ll try. I was crying so hard I could barely talk. You came over and asked me where it really hurt. I pointed. Then you…” Wednesday heard a little gasp. “Oh my gods, Wednesday! You touched it and said you wanted me to be okay. Then I was. All the pain was gone. I’m sure my leg was broken, but I got back on my bike and rode home. There wasn’t even road rash or a bruise.”

“Thanks, Bell. All’s fine here. I’ll be home in a couple of days. Probably.”

She ended the call and looked at Rally.

“What did she say?” Rally asked.

“She said she was hurt when we were kids and that I might have healed her.”

  “Try with me,” he said.

  Wednesday scowled. “You?”

“Yeah.” He grinned. “I swear you make everything you touch feel better.” He wiggled his eyebrows and she laughed. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Let’s experiment. I can move my hands and feet a little, but I’m probably another twenty-four hours away from being able to even sit up by myself. See what you can do.”

“What’s in it for me?” she joked. “Maybe I like you at my mercy.”

“Baby, I’ll be at your mercy anytime you want. Come sit on me. Straddle me. If nothing happens, it’ll still be fun.”

She did as he asked then looking down said, “Alright. Just lie back.”

He smiled as much as he could. “Hysterical.”

“I thought so. Stay quiet for a minute. I have no idea what I’m doing. I guess I’m making it up as I go.”

  “Or you’re acting on instinct.”

  “Shhhh.”

She closed her eyes, and opened her mind looking to see whatever might be imperfect. She immediately got a vision of the giant green glass tea jar her mother used on the terrace when people were coming over in the summertime. It was half full of a sparkling clear liquid, like water but with hundreds of pinpoints of light. Fireflies swimming.

Suddenly she felt sad that it wasn’t full. Just as suddenly she found that what she wanted more than anything was to see that jar full to overflowing. When she pushed that wish out with her spirit, the liquid and lights expanded exponentially and, within seconds, filled the jar to the realm.

Rally sucked in a huge breath and sat up like he was enjoying the best day of his life. He wrapped her in his arms and showed her what a kiss feels like when a warlock is at full power. It was a demanding kiss, a lingering kiss, a breathless kiss, and a kiss of claiming.

Wednesday pulled back and started to get off the bed. He reached for her and tried to pull her back.

“Can you get up?” she asked, wide-eyed as if she was witnessing a miracle.

He laughed. “Not only can I get up. I can chase you to the ends of the Earth. All the way to the Arctic Circle if necessary.”

He swung his legs off the bed and stood in a single graceful motion as beautiful as a dance move, then held out his hands like Bob Fosse.

“Wednesday, who’s not special at all. Look what you can do.”

She was so elated at having learned she had something to offer that she felt a little lightheaded.

“Come here,” Rally said, looking suddenly seductive. “Let’s do something about that innocence.” When she walked into his embrace he said, “You know I kept us warm in that ice bubble thinking about all the things we were going to do together.”

  EPILOGUE

As soon as she was back in Wimberley, Wednesday sought out Gale because she knew she was in trouble with the Council. Gale seemed pleased to see her and welcomed her in.

“Just made smoothies. You want one?” she asked.

“No. I came to say that I’m making myself available to the Council. I figure they’re going to want to see me.”

  “Why’s that?”

“Because I no-showed the spring rites.”

  “Oh that.”

“And because I’m not going to marry the one y’all thought was the one.”

  “I’ll bet you are.”

  “I’m not. I’m in love with…”

  “Rally Morovian?”

The look on Wednesday’s face made Gale laugh. “We’ve been at this a long time, Wednesday. Why do you think you were chosen to go to the gathering in Aspen?”

She scowled. “I always wondered about that.”

“So you’d meet the Morovian boy, who was destined to fall in love with you, save your life and lead you to the realization that you have a lot to offer. Oh. And we’re gonna help you save the world.”

  Save Our Home.

This story is dedicated to our home, the planet Earth. This was a fantasy. We can’t count on witches to save us. We must do this ourselves by forcing representatives to act in our best interest.

Ninety-seven percent of scientists believe that…

  Climate change is happening

  And it is human-caused.

If ninety-seven percent of auto mechanics agreed that a car model needed to be recalled because of a dangerous component, would you believe them?

Just to name one example, Miami is in crisis because of rising waters. The Florida Keys may disappear into the ocean during your lifetime!

The looming catastrophe could be reversed. Don’t believe false assurances funded by giant fossil fuel corporations. Listen to your heart. Believe your own truth.

Take a step in the direction of saving our home so that our grandchildren have a place to live by watching this. Every great thing begins with awareness. https://www.beforetheflood.com/
