He told me he fell in love with you a little bit every day. That it happened slow and easy.
Don’t tell anyone, but I saw him blush.
“Love is hard to explain, Mia,” he said.
Well, I didn’t like his answer. I felt like I was asking whether he loved you back then, and his response was, “Love-ish.”
Of course, Garrett Hollis would never add “ish” to anything.
“Love isn’t hard,” I told him. “You tell me that the things we want are often not the things we need.”
Love is what we need. What we all need more than anything. To know that we are loved, but more importantly, to love someone else.
Love is the thing we both want and need.
I’m glad you both found it in each other. Whether it happened slow or fast? Was hard or easy?
Daddy, Devlyn—I mean Mom. That’s going to take some getting used to.
It’s funny how you can miss what’s right in front of you. The thing I wanted. The thing I needed. I already had it—because I had you.
Both of you.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
My daughter’s voice echoes in my head as I write this. She whispers, “Dad bod!” Throughout writing this book, she insisted I give Garrett a “dad bod.” Her suggestion for the cover was the same. I didn’t follow her advice, but she kept me in stitches the whole time I was writing this book, so I thought that deserved a shout out.
There’s an army of people to thank for bringing Garrett’s story to the page.
My editor, Nikki Rushbrook, for smoothing out the rough edges while honoring the voices of my characters.
To Michelle Rodriguez, beta reader extraordinaire, for support and her ability to pimp a book like no other.
To Michele Catalano, for her artistry, bringing my book to life in cover design.
To Nina Grinstead and the team at Social Butterfly, for being there—when things go right, and when things go crazy.
To readers, thank you for every laugh, every smile, every tear, every heartbreak that books bring you. You make it all possible.
Hugs and Happily Ever Afters,
Prescott Lane
